Decorative pillows are dumb and pointless, amirite?

The point of a decorative pillow is to be decorative. Your title contradicts itself. But they are definitely dumb, in my view.

My wife values comfort over everything. I think she would be OK living through the end of the world as long as she could stay curled up on the couch. It is so important to her that she wants to be able to look at a couch she is not sitting on and feel comfortable. I think that is why she likes decorative pillows.

Decorative anything is pointless. Why do need so many different colors of paint? Or art for the walls? Why do we need so many different styles of clothes, when it would be easier to stick to a few different basics for different needs? (I will grant that pillows are more of a nuisance than many other decorative elements though)

It depends. Decorative pillows that are only decorative like the ones you take off your bed every night are obviously dumb. But a nice looking, decorative pillow or two on your sofa can improve the optics of a room.

Id disagree. Everything we take in reflects on the chemicals in our brain. Having a neat organized and themed room can greatly boost all the good feels in your noodle. Like when people get depressed, their rooms get messier, that itself too worsens the depression.
