College Admissions Need Published, Guaranteed Thresholds, amirite?
by Anonymous3 months ago
why overcomplicate something as fundamental as assessing academic ability? Because a couple test scores and a GPA generally only scratch the surface of academic ability and potential. They're also exceedingly biased and meaningless at the high end.

How can colleges guarantee admissions if they have limited capacity?

That isn't going to happen. You are the dean of a small college in the midwest. You have 400 seats available for the next school year. You advertise that your entry criteria is a 1500 SAT. 6,000 people that meet that criteria apply. Where do you put the extra 5,600 students you now have to admit? As a school, you have zero control over how many applications you will get.

How is that different than what exists now?

This exist in some Universities. Idk how universal it is in America (because he is talking about sat), but there are planty of universities that always require an interview, writing an essay ECT... So the difference is if all universities will do it or only some.

Because there is so much more to it than just SATs. College's dont just want smart people. they want people who will commit to the courses and improve the college's image and actually put in work rather than someone who just busted their ass to cross a finish line and then will just sit around

Lots of schools already do this. This includes lots of large, well-regarded universities.
