-1,196 Forrest Gump isn't that good, amirite?

by Johnscole 1 week ago

"I never understood why this film is held in such high regard, it really never did anything for me or resonated with me" Pretty hard to beat this kind of ivy league analysis

by Marinadickinson 1 week ago

It insists upon itself

by Expensive-Whereas 1 week ago

Derivative… BULL$#IT!

by selena55 1 week ago

Stupid question but what does ivy league analysis mean?

by Vince85 1 week ago

Ivy League is considered the best of higher education, with some of the most prestigious liberal arts education in the world. Analysis can be the dissection and understanding of art or literature. So essentially the best analysis you can hope for.

by Eliza95 1 week ago

Not everything needs to be a thorough analyisis that opens up discourse around the philosophy of art. Some people just don't like Forrest Gump. I mean, they're wrong cause it's objectively an amazing movie, but to each his own

by Active-Coach-6371 1 week ago

I agree, but nothing at all is pretty far away from a thorough analysis lol

I like a show about a meat ball shake and box of fries, so who am I to judge

The old schoola. You want a trip? I'll bring it to ya.

by Creminkarlie 1 week ago

Respectfully disagree.

by Different_Channel118 1 week ago

It probably was doing something that was clever at the time it came out.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

oh look funny disabled person go brrrrrrrrrr thats unironically how my parents described it, well, paraphrased

by Anonymous 1 week ago

My unpopular opinion is that I don't get why Pulp Fiction is so lauded. It's good, I just don't get why it's up there as "one of the best". Tarantino has made way better films.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Damn, I could practically hear you adjusting your fedora as I read this.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Ackchually, it's a trilby.

by ricenoemy 1 week ago

Either way, it's the ramblings of a self-impressed pretentious douche.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The lack of self awareness is hilarious.

by Warm_Durian 1 week ago

You sure sound like a nice person in comparison don't you!

by stammbrianne 1 week ago

Yes, he is. Without question.

by Standard-Dot 1 week ago

Lmao, man literally went on the classic insufferable hipster "ugh, all the non-fans started liking him because of his most popular work, unlike the real fans like me who liked him before it was cool" and you think it was a good take worthy of respect?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

True Romance is so fantastic. I love how just about every character, no matter how little screen time, is played by a gem. The epitome of an underrated movie.

by SweetTotal3481 1 week ago

Is it white boy day? Nah, man. It ain't white boy day.

by ricenoemy 1 week ago

True Romance is 100x better (i know it's not directed by QT).

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I agree. I think FG and Shawshank were amazing. Pulp Fiction is not up there with the other two imo.

by Charityrowe 1 week ago

Found the kill Bill fan.

by Warm_Durian 1 week ago

Inglorious Basterds fan akchully (and Django).

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The film is literally mostly talking….if Pulp Fiction is too violent for you then you haven't seen many films lol

by Johnscole 1 week ago

Have you seen some 80s movies? Violence in movies has been more hardcore than Pulp Fiction since the 70s.

by SweetTotal3481 1 week ago

You call women females, I don't think you're qualified to decide what women like or not, even if in the unlikely eventuality you were born with two X chromosomes

by Anonymous 1 week ago

If you're not American, it's because Americans loooooove the cheesiness of the movie. My American friend who strongly defends the movie as not at all overrated also loves all the cheesy 50-70s musicals. It's a culture thing.

by Vegetable-Item 1 week ago

You're right this is an unpopular opinion

by mullerlenore 1 week ago

Agreed I hate it

by Feeling_Gold69 1 week ago

I hate forest gump so much it's insane

by Particular_Food 1 week ago

I never understood why some movies of Tom Hanks is held in high regard

by arnoldo06 1 week ago

Saving private Ryan? C'mon now

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Actually now that I think about it, he did a good job voicing more than one character on The Polar Express

by arnoldo06 1 week ago

cause he's an amazing actor. silently crying in Saving Private Ryan. His incredible performance in Captain Philips and Cast Away. The dude can act

by Active-Coach-6371 1 week ago

The 'Burbs.

by ricenoemy 1 week ago

Nah. Cast away is peak cinema

by South-Fisherman 1 week ago

The Toy Story films and Captain Philips are great as well

by Johnscole 1 week ago

Toy Story IS good. Still love the first one

by arnoldo06 1 week ago

Nostalgia

by Party-School 1 week ago

I love all of them. But you're right that either Shawshank Redemption or Pulp Fiction deserved best picture

by Susannaswaniaws 1 week ago

Shawshank Redemptiom was a slow burner, I think most of us discovered it through repeat airings on TV. Surprised Forrest Gump won best picture though, it doesn't seem that kind of film. Not that it matters too much tbh.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Forrest Gump is just a feelgood movie.

by Senior_Apple 1 week ago

Forrest Gump seemed like an OK "poignant" movie if you're in the mood for something sorta sappy like that. Which was then absolutely ruined by the endless "HaHa look- Forrest invented the Pet Rock!" "Haha look- Forrest was actually the person at the grassy knoll!" "Haha look- Forrest actually saved the crew of Apollo 13!"

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Read the book. Then re-watch the movie.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I agree, actually. I never vibed with that movie, even when all my peers and adults were going on about it.

by AnyAspect 1 week ago

Forrest Gump is bad. Period.

by Content-Reporter 1 week ago

It was made by Tarantino? What? Ironic since there's a scene with a naked-footwear-wearing woman.

by Total-Web-1804 1 week ago

That's funny, because I don't understand all the hype over Shawshank redemption. It's an ok movie but I don't think it's that good.

by schusteremie 1 week ago

I'd have Pulp Fiction as the best of the 3 but Forest Gump is next. They're all great.

by Any_Village 1 week ago

Broey Deschanel did a great video essay on the conservatism in Forrest Gump, you might enjoy it. I'm not a fan of the movie either because of really weird and problematic portrayals of a lot of things which is somehow rarely talked about.

by OrdinaryInternet 1 week ago

I see Shawshank and Forrest as 2 of the most overrated movies, and Pulp Fiction as one of the best. Opinions eh...

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That's just, like, your opinion man

by hermannalize 1 week ago

What is it about Shawshank which you rate it so highly? It's an ok story, acting is ok, characters are a bit generic for me.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's a Stephen King story with an actual ending.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

When was the last time you watched it? It's entirely possible you watched it at a time when you had predispositions about it. I have rewatched many films that I did not like from my younger years and wondered what the hell I was thinking. There is something beautiful about Shawshank. Maybe it's the storytelling. The music. The atmosphere. The triumph. Probably altogether. I would try to give it another go, with an open mind. It really is a joy to watch. To each his own, though.

by SweetTotal3481 1 week ago

Why?

by Reasonable-Winner 1 week ago

I don't get Shawshank or Gump either. I mean they're fine but nothing great.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah they're fine, don't get the hype myself.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Is it still highly regarded though? I'm under the impression that these it's considered to be somewhat "problematic" and a sentimental nostalgia bait film. Plus also that people think it wasn't a worthy Best Picture winner.

by Direct_Fisherman 1 week ago

Fully agree. The book was also mid .

by clintlemke 1 week ago

Do you get mad when LeBron James wins NBA MVP instead of Larry Bird or Magic Johnson?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I think it just scratches the "Oh Mer GERd thats ScheeGor from Blingietoon" itch for people who don't like marvel movies.

by kailey70 1 week ago

marvel's really a religion for some of you

by lwindler 1 week ago

you realise I was making fun of marvel fans right?
