Well, if someone's unpopular opinion would be that "there's nothing inherently wrong with dating someone under a certain age" I would sure hope people would call them out on what they are, which is sick in the head individuals.

Cousin marriage taboo developed during times and in places where local groups of people were already pretty heavily interrelated, and marriage was considered a failure if it didn't produce children.. When two first cousins have parents that are already probably 4th cousins, the knock-on of potential birth defects became even higher. In more insular communities or in colonial communities that had a smaller start-up population, the risks were very real. These days, people are much more mobile, your parents are less likely to be distantly related, and marriage without children is just uncommon, not a tragedy. The only version of cousin marriage I find concerning is when age difference and closeness make it seem possible grooming occurred. But I'd feel the same way about a girl marrying her 8 year older brother's best friend right out of high-school.

Logically you're correct. Our distaste for it comes through socialization, not instinctual repulsion. If it were instinctual parents wouldn't have to explain to their children why they can't have a crush on the person who came to visit for the holidays.
