+65 Being obsessed with working out, protein powder and calories is unsexy and self-centered, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

When it comes to your own body, you should be self centered? Also, you say unsexy, yet those are the 3 you picked after 6 months on tinder

by Anonymous 1 week ago

And then this person calls then normal looking. Not everybody is gonna look like chris bumstead. There js a huge difference in going to the gym and being a professional bodybuilder.

by SignificantStuff 1 week ago

OP says they train like a pro body builder though.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

As stated they didnt really look the part, as they were not super fit and the diet-thing wasnt anything they told me in the beginning it took some time :)

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Is it necessary to mention that someone doesn't look the part ? At that point it just feels like you are body shaming someone that obviously values their physical appearance. It doesn't make them vain, they simply want to be proud of their body and feel good in it.

You're just in the rabbit hole of thinking that having big muscle will bring you joy, a girl and a better social life but it doesnt work like that

by Hesseloswaldo 1 week ago

People are at different stages of their "journey" Those 3 peoples could have only started doing it 4 months ago. Of course they aren't going to look amazing right away. It takes time.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I exercise 4-5 times a week. But I know people who do it all the time. Like it dominates their lives. I've always been curious. What's the dividing line between genuine care for your health and your body and good old-fashioned narcissism?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

People aren't doing it for you… I'm guessing that's a bit of a strange concept though.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No they are doing it for them self of course?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Your view that it's unsexy and self-centred is you making it about you.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

god forbid these people want to be healthy

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Sounds like OP is refering to the extreme end of gym bros. Guys who eat unseasoned chicken breast and rice so they are so bored with their food and are not tempted to eat more and go over their calorie intake even just one time. There's being fit and healthy and then there's living like you are a competitive body builder. But OP notes they still don't look like body builders, just normal fit people. So they obviously are missing something in their routine (probably all the trainers, coaches, dieticians that an actual pro has on-staff) that isn't getting them the full benefit from their efforts. Each to their own but I personally don't see the ROI on going that far, especially if you don't actually enjoy the work you put in and are just doing it because you want to be ripped. If gym 5-6 days a week makes you miserable it's probably not worth it for just looking a certain way. Cut back to 2 days and pick up a sport that you actually love so much you would play it if even if it magically didn't help keep you fit. Bonus if there is an option for co-ed teams because you can actually meet people to date this way.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah i know its not logical in any way, its just so boring to me

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You're undermining your own logic. Not having a drink on a date is weird (unless for sobriety)

by Low-Research 1 week ago

Inability to have a drink on a date is an un socialized behavior. Conflating having a drink with a healthy lifestyle is childish. Almost signals either a lack of self control or a naive outlook on their own health regiment. Either scenario is kinda beat

by Low-Research 1 week ago

Conflating having a drink with being social is antisocial behaviour, and a huge issue with society in many places

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Choosing not to drink so you can meet your goals is the opposite of a lack of self control

by nelda84 1 week ago

Im well aware of that, but i belive a good balance is the key here.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

True. Its fine to work out, but when they make it their whole personality, it's pretty off putting. Gym bros are obsessed.

by ChestPopular 1 week ago

That's some hog logic

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Its not logical what so ever, its just an opinion

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Obsession generally is.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah you are correct, english is not my first language and i couldnt really come up with a more fitting word. Not obsessed but… very into maybe?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I guess being obsessed with hobbies and passions are unsexy and self centered

by Giovani81 1 week ago

broo you picking 3 boring gym guys on tinder doesn't mean the whole gym bros community is like them yr broo 🙄

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You do know you can enjoy life without drinking alcohol or fast food, right? You must have a incredibly boring life if this is your perception of "living a little"

by Anonymous 1 week ago

If you really don't like that type of guy so much, why were they the ones you ended up meeting off an app? Something tells me they were more attractive because you can see they look after themselves, and you aren't swiping right on the jelly-bodied basement dwellers.

Strongly agree. My wife is obsessed with her weight. She's much thinner now in her 40s, after two kids, than she was when I met her in college. She tracks all of her calories. Weighs every ingredient in her meals, constantly obsesses about every fluctuation in her weight, runs and works out almost every day. It's to the point where I'm the breadwinner, I do most of the housework, and spend way more quality time with our kids. I miss my wife :(

by Anonymous 1 week ago

If she's gotten obsessive with it, you may want to talk to her or a doctor about it if she's gotten into disordered eating territory...

by Joanabauch 1 week ago

You type like people speak after a Novocaine injection.

by Long-One 1 week ago

I don't drink so it's fine me. Like unless they freak out about me baking cookies it's not a problem

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I blame the Tinder guys. They just sound boring.

by Alihayes 1 week ago

Totally agree, i did it for years, it is a sad and boring way of life, eventually you get tired of it.

by Ellen26 6 days ago

counter point is that once i kept an eye on my diet and exercise my quality of life sky rocketed.

by Waltersusanna 6 days ago

"They don't look fit" Well maybe that's why they are on diets and hitting the gym consistently?

by klockosummer 6 days ago

Whats boring is eating the same slop and living a life of pure comfort. I don't openly hate on people being gross and fat, don't hate on people that want to be able to touch their toes in their 60s

by nicholas74 6 days ago

For me doing all that stuff is about having a goal and sticking to it… the goal? To be hot!

by Equivalent_You 6 days ago

You lost me at the first sentence. Working out is unquestionably not the most common interest for people and that's not an opinion based statement.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

Hog logic detected

by Anonymous 6 days ago

They're sexy to people with the same lifestyle.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

When you see people who are extremely muscular or fit walking around the mall or somewhere normal, it does look a little kooky and it highlights that.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

SHOO SHOO GAINS GOBLIN

by Anonymous 6 days ago

I dated someone that was a professional bodybuilder that studied sports science when I was younger and it turned out that he had a severe eating disorder, he did pretty much what you described. There are a lot of men with eating disorders and body dysmorphia too even if people don't like this fact. And it's probably not getting less because of social media.

Congrats, you have met an average lifter who is not on steroids :D
