+49 People who set 5 alarms to wake up are maniacs, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

To me it's to try to find the sweet spot in case in deep sleep; I'm always scared I'll not hear the alarm if I set only one, which already happened in the past. Like blasting alarm and still wouldn't hear it

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I've never had this issue on a normal sleep schedule, but times when I've pulled consecutive all nighters, I can literally sleep through people screaming at me

by Uptonalvah 2 days ago

Congrats on not being a deep sleeper lol. It doesn't matter how much sleep I get, I can sleep through anything

by regandare 2 days ago

Does it ever scare you if some type of emergency is happening and you just don't wake up?

by Uptonalvah 2 days ago

I have multiple alarms with different ring tones, because i will either sleep through them, or turn them off in my sleep. Society force the majority of people with different sleep cycle to get up at nearly the same hours as morning people, do you expect people with a later sleep cycle to magically be able to get instantly up while fighting their own biology

by Wild_One1944 2 days ago

I feel like people don't have discipline and can't drag themselves up no matter how miserable they are about it. I don't really blame them but why cost yourself 30 mins of sleep cycling through alarms

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Personally, I want to have some time of being half awake half sleeping, helps me build up a buffer against how much I hate waking up, but I don't want to fall asleep fully again, so I just have an alarm in between

by Smithglenda 2 days ago

If I only set 1 or 2 alarms I will wake up 1 or 2 hours later and realise I've over slept. Some people wake up fast, some people wake up slow. If you haven't experienced the other side, why refuse to believe millions and millions of people, what's even the point in that..

by jorgelubowitz 2 days ago

I do this. And I'm still 10min late to work every day*. During covid, I wfh. I was still late 15min every day*. I just can't wake up, man.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

*every day

Thanks

Some people just aren't morning people or aren't good at waking up and going to sleep at the exact same time every day and still need to be part of regular society so they have to find different ways to adapt. It's really not that complicated, different things work and are necessary for different people.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You try having depression and only sleeping 3-4hrs a night and see if you can get up right away lol

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Done

by Pristine-Health 2 days ago

Yea this is insensitive to those struggling with mental health and or addiction with few resources

by jonespatsy 2 days ago

It's not that deep when op wrote it lol

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I read that it's bad for your health to wake up immediately. I remember reading about giving yourself 20min or so before fully waking up and getting up. i can never wake up with 1 alarm. I need several in case i'm deep in sleep or fall back asleep after the first.

by Hopeful-Warning-7969 2 days ago

If you're going to do this, just set an alarm for 630 and another one for 7. Like why would you torture yourself with all of these alarms?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I do this, but in a different way, 6:20-7 to wake up at 7 is stupid. I start with the time I want to wake up, then follow up by 5 minutes each to make sure I wake up. I still can make it in time on the last alarm, but I need to rush way more. I still get the most sleep I can while getting out comfortably, while waking up on the first alarm.

Alarm Pro-tip: "Set 1 alarm. If you don't wake up, it's your body saying you need more sleep. Problem solved!"

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Well some of us have responsibilities to get to

by Feestcallie 2 days ago

"Sorry boss, my body said I needed more sleep."

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Unfortunately my body also needs to generate corporate profits.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

yea, if first alarm wont wake you up you just don't get enough sleep in first place I personally have 2 alarms, but second alarm is not to wake me up, but to tell that I need to hurry up with my morning routine because Im supposed to leave now

by Loose-Entrepreneur22 2 days ago

I have sleep problems and I still will insist they have self discipline issues. Unless you are turning off the alarm in your sleep, you just didn't want to get up when the alarm went off. It is simple as that.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah that is a big unless. I argue that most people who do this do it because they turn alarms down when asleep. There is literally no other reason to put so many alarms.

by RealisticCustard6102 2 days ago

Here's an idea I tell people: Go to bed so that you can wake up about 8 hours later and your body will naturally wake up.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

still good to setup an alarm to wake up precisely at needed hour, but still, getting enough sleep in first place is key of waking up on first alarm

by Loose-Entrepreneur22 1 day ago

Extra tip, some people need more sleep than that and some less. I find I wake up fully refreshed after just under seven hours. For my wife it can be between 9 to 11 hours depending on how stressful her day was... Although to be fair I'm not sure how long she's on her kindle after we get into bed because I just drop straight to sleep when I'm ready to go.

by Dangerous_Block 1 day ago

Some of us work a lot and don't have 8 hours in between. People who can sleep nicely and wake up in one alarm, good for you. Leave everyone else alone. Unless you're living in an apartment or with someone that interrupts your sleep with alarms, no reason to care. Also, I could never trust myself to wake up in 8 hours lmao. Either I'm waking up just shy of 7 or in 9. No in between

by Zealousideal-Cow 1 day ago

I only set one extra alarm. It is to give myself the illusion of sleeping in.

by Jumpy-Masterpiece859 1 day ago

I used to do that when I had sleep apnea. Got it sorted and no need now

by hillard64 1 day ago

A study I read online said it's better to just set one alarm for when you absolutely have to wake up because then you get more continuously and your brain says "you have no choice now, wake up."

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I like just lying in bed for a while before I actually get up. So I have one alarm that's my actual wake up alarm, a second alarm that's my "get out of bed" alarm, and a third alarm in case I somehow slept through the first two.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

lol. Zero alarm club But my bed time is that of a toddler

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'll never understand setting an alarm to wake me up and tell me I could have slept longer.

by Massive_Exercise 1 day ago

I have a bunch of alarms with the sound going from quiet and soothing to loud and upsetting. If I'm close to waking up, the first couple of alarms wake me up fully. If I'm not, they gradually wake me up. If I'm in a dead sleep, a single alarm will get turned off without me even being aware.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It's a paranoia that we're not going to wake up because of some past experiences of turning an alarm off or not hearing it and sleeping through something we needed to get up for. At least that's why I set three alarms.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I never set alarms, I wake up when I wake up. 99% on time. Even on weekends ill sleep till 9.30, but came monday morning im up at 5.30 - no alarms.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Setting multiple alarms saved my life few times already. But I only do it when I have something incredibly important to do/somewhere important to go + I will be sleeping less than 4 hours. Otherwise I don't have trouble waking up but I'm not in the place to judge people who do. I really don't think that is their laziness. They just seem wired differently on the biological level.

by PuzzleheadedTax2100 1 day ago

My roommate seems to have an alarm for everything.

by frankcrooks 1 day ago

It also means instead of the last 40 - 60 mins of unbroken sleep you get woken up every 10 mins - that can't be as refreshing. I get it. I don't really want to get up some days. But 1 alarm set with enough time to get ready. And getting up straight away is the way to go!

by Awkward-Effective-31 1 day ago

I do it specifically to annoy my brain enough to wake up after 2 or 3 alarms.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

For me it's a necessity 1 of 5 days of the week. I don't always know which day that'll be, so it's 5 alarms 5 days a week.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Maniac checking in. I've slept through all five before, and I'll do it again if you let me.

by albertomurray 1 day ago

I used to do that but I found that all it really did was train my body that I don't need to wake up to the alarm because their was (probably) another one about to go off

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I wish I only had to set 5 lol it takes about 30 alarms to wake me up . I set them for every other minute and they all repeat 10 times … I sleep through all of them everyday and usually wake up late .

by MachineSpecific3677 1 day ago

Our brains are broken. I'm 37. I don't know why waking up is so hard. I did a sleep study and they said I slept flawlessly.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Why did you get a sleep study done if you sleep fine ?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I just get really nervous about missing alarms. Also it's not to get up at 7, its to get up before work. I don't really care if I exactly 8 hours of sleep, getting at least like 6 is chill so why not set like 5. And just get up at the first one that gets me up. I also have different sounds on each alarm I make. Generally I still get up on the first one though.
