+57 Earbuds are awful, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'm a firm believer in over ear headphones being supreme in every way. But sounds like you just haven't had the right size ear buds my dude.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The only way they're not is size/compactness. As weird as it may be, I choose that over the sound quality because ear buds now are pretty great sound wise for what they are.

by royce72 2 days ago

Over the ear are indeed better, for most cases. But I can't keep them from falling off at the gym, that's why I use earbuds for exercise only.

by Nervous_Apartment_52 2 days ago

Agreed. Earbuds have a place (working out for example) but if motion is not a factor, give me wired headphones any day

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I hate the way that earbuds feel. I've always preferred headphones

by hstroman 2 days ago

It takes me a second to put them in and they hold for my one hour run without any issues or pain

by Clevereichert 2 days ago

Would never use earbuds on my pc tho. Overear is just better, but too unpractical for outside.

by Clevereichert 2 days ago

Nah man, in ear monitors have changed my life for PC gaming

by Little-Programmer 2 days ago

I feel like most people don't have this issue. I like them because they're smaller to put in my purse and l like the rechargeable cases. Headphones also sometimes mess up my hair

by Budget-Calendar 2 days ago

Because earbuds are portable, you can just always have them in your pocket since they barely take up any space. I recently bought some Bose Ultra Open headphones and they are absolute game changers in terms of comfort. They don't go in your ears, they clip onto your ears, and they are so comfortable that I actually forget I'm wearing them sometimes. I can only wear regular buds for an hour or two before my ears start aching, but these I can leave in all day.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I hate rubber tipped earbuds, they've never felt like they fit or stay well. I've always liked the hard plastic apple earpods though and still use them even though I haven't had an iphone in 7 years. At home at my desk over ear headphones are great but when I'm out and about I like my wired earbuds. They are also very comfortable for sleeping with.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Same I hate them, but I tried raycons and they work amazingly. I can Jog with them and everything

by Remote-Horror5404 2 days ago

Are you sponsored?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Amen. Earbuds hurt and I hate them.

by Few-Bumblebee-8756 2 days ago

Because most of us don't have the same issues you have. If people's earbuds were falling out from slight movements and their ears were hurting after 20 minutes they wouldn't be using them.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I use earbuds when going to the gym or running. They are cheaper and in plastic, I don't want to destroy my headphone with sweat. For running, headphones are more annoying. Besides those cases, I always use my headphone.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Get better earbuds

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I have small ear canals and I tend towards fungus in the canal. I have yet to find earbuds that I'm in love with. Even the smallest tips don't feel small enough. I tried to use the kind that are like a headband and obviously those were terrible. Over the ear ones are hard to use in bed.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I don't have any of those issues with earbuds, but I use AirPods Pro with the silicon tips which are adjustable Can't say they're ever fallen out or hurt.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Earbuds fall out so easily, the slightest movement will cause them to fall out. No they don't. They really start hurting if I wear them for longer than like 20 minutes. No they don't?!? What are you doing?

by BicyclePractical3140 2 days ago

I wear my AirPods 8 hours a day most days, so can't agree that they're uncomfortable

by pfefferlanden 2 days ago

They serve different purposes. I use my headphones at my computer, but earbuds when I'm out cause they fit in my pocket and leave me with "headphone dent" in public.

by Excellent_Pound1767 2 days ago

I wear mine no problem. Comfy, never fall out. My partner can't wear them at all. She has small ears and a small jaw. Could be why. So yeah, it's easy to see why many people like them. But they don't work for everybody.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

As a glasses wearer, headphones tend to give me a headache or uncomfortable pressure where the headphones press against the ear pieces on the glasses. Ear buds have been a better solution for me but I agree, they are annoying that I have to constantly push them back in anytime I move my head. The best ones I've come across are the hard ones. The ones with the rubber pieces are horrible.

by Outrageous-Youth7077 1 day ago

Buddy, use ear buds with rubber tips. Problem solved.

by Parkernils 1 day ago

I agree. Headphones hurt me too, but they are far better than earbuds. Who wants a piece of plastic stuck in their ear?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

At no point is the plastic touching my ear, that's what the silicone/foam ear tips are for.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yes but I'd consider a soft foam or silicone ear tip to be very different from having hard plastic stuck in my ear. I basically don't even notice that they're there.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

In the same boat. Buds fall out if I'm chewing.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Maybe you don't have the right size plugs (the rubber thingy)? I know raycons give you multiple sizes so you can find the right size for your ear.

by ScienceRelative 1 day ago

I can't keep earbuds in so I always buy ones that hook over the ear & only ones that have decent volume and sound for music

by giuseppegrady 1 day ago

My ears get sore after a bit. And I've never found ear buds that had the same great sound as my headphones.

by Born-End 1 day ago

I get the kind that still have a bit that hooks over my ear, regular buds juat don't stay, no matter what shape and size.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

my head is extremely sensitive to any kind of pressure and I get migraines and/or nausea very easily as a reaction earbuds do this far less than the over hear headphones either due to the band or the pressure from the earcups

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I feel the same but I got some ear buds with the little strap around the ears. Love them.

by Amazing-Mirror-1772 1 day ago

I like corded ear buds, I think they're comfortable. I've yet to find a pair of Bluetooths that aren't annoying as hell

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I wear wireless earbuds everyday at work for 8+ hours. I can't recall a time they have ever fell out of my ear, the only time they touch the ground is when I fumble putting them back in the charging case. The pain/soreness you're describing is absolutely a real thing, however, after a couple weeks of wearing them you'll find it no longer causes any discomfort.

by sporerlyda 1 day ago

Headphones have always hurt me after 15-20 mins, no adjusting doesnt help, earbuds dont hurt

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I hate ear buds. Guess my ears just don't fit them properly, but I much prefer good ol' fashioned cans.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I bought HifiMan ear buds. They came with around 15 maybe more different rubber plugs, single, double and triple lobed, all in different sizes to fit every ear. You are sacrificing massive amounts of sound quality and comfort compared to over ear headphones. But you are getting portability and convenience. Whatever headphones you buy, buy them from a company that only makes headphones and other sound gear, any company that has headphones as an accessory to their other products is not making as good quality of a product.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Get ones with ear hooks

by quinton69 1 day ago

I used to have that problem. I haven't gotten any complaints with my beans (galaxy buds live) yet about people hearing what im listening to.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

God gave you special ears

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Headphones hurt my ears if I wear them longer than say 4 hours or so. I can go the whole day if the charge allowed it

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If u have bad earbuds. Headphones for gaming earbuds when you are outside.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I used to get annoyed by earbuds, until I bought the rolfstone nova sport earbuds. They're comfortable, good quality, last for years, and never fall out of my ears.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I have yet to find over ear headphones that don't give me a headache after 4-6+ hours of use.

by BeginningTap 1 day ago

Over the ear headphones hurt my ears

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I even wear mine to sleep, they have only ever fallen out when I take my shirt off or knock them out, not by just moving around. I love em.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If earbuds keeps falling off consider using foam tips. You can buy em bulk so you can replace regularly

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm with you man. I even bought like $100 ones with multiple different sizes/shapes. And they just fall out all the time.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Sounds like you just have earbuds that don't fit your ears. It took me a long time and so many different types to find a pair that finally stays in without pain

by Anonymous 1 day ago

if you're using very cheap or badly made earbuds then yes it's going to feel like crap. IEMs are far superior for the price when it comes to sound quality and lot of people prefer the fit that doesn't put weight on their skull. yes you need to find the ear tips to make them fit right but it's usually not difficult for most people.

by giovani51 1 day ago

Try aftershockz bone conduction. Changed my life tbh.

by Deven47 1 day ago

The inner ear ones suck

by Anonymous 1 day ago

there are many types of earbuds: for example XM4s cut into my ears while Apple pros are super comfortable. Main benefits of earbuds are that they have better ANC, cheaper, smaller and are way more socially acceptable: but I prefer over the ears for comfort

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They are made for bigger ear canals (think men ears). I have small ear canals, so they hurt. I only use over ear also.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I can't get them to stay in my ears. I have switched entirely to bone induction headphones and I am much happier.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I somewhat agree with you. Thats why I have the powerbeats pro. They still hurt my ears after like 4 hours, but not as much. I also have trouble getting earphones to stay in that don't have the earloop. I think it has to do with the shape of my ears, whenever I try to sit them in my ear, they just fall out. Its like its too big to sit there properly. I have to hold it there for it to stay, so they're very annoying. I don't use headphones though, they are too bulky and heavy and they hurt my head, so I can't have those on either.

by Hellertyreek 1 day ago

Headphones ruin your hair, and you look like a tool when wearing them around town. Earbuds att effective, discrete and lowkey magical when it comes to talking on the phone while doing other things.

by Ok-Willingness 1 day ago

The only ear buds I like are the wrap around ones. The eartips on the ones that are low profile never stay in all the time

by AdElectrical3445 1 day ago

Earbuds make you seem more approachable (if one cares about that) and dont mess up your hair

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I like my AirPods purely for the convenience of size and charging case. I've had the hinges on over ear headphones break as well.

by armstrongwebste 1 day ago

Sweat destroys headphones

by kihnalfonso 1 day ago

I like ear buds. I buy mini earbuds and use the smallest rubber fitting. If you get the right fit its easy to forget you're wearing them.

by Last_Forever_261 1 day ago

I don't like carrying over-ear headphones with me, earbuds are easier to take on the go. When exercising over-ear would get sweaty so I use earbuds, even if they fall out sometimes. But overall over-ear are much more comfortable and what I wear when I'm at home.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

TLDR; but from the title alone I kind of agree. I have AirPods and they're constantly coming out of my ears when I eat, laugh, smile wide, open my mouth too much. My ears are a bit waxy so that doesn't help but I can't keep these mfs in my ears. I can't use those weird rubber pieces that go farther into your ear because they get destroyed by my ear wax. My ears nasty yall….

by Important-Kitchen 1 day ago

I mainly avoid them out of principle (another unrepairable product that becomes e-waste after a few years). There being said, from two I've tried neither fit that well. Even when swapping the tips. On the other hand, I've had wired IEMs that fit just fine. It's probably mostly a weight distribution thing combined with ear shape.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

My ears are super small and ear buds don't fit in my ears!!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I agree with you. I can't keep them in the save my life. Headphones for the win.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If you have Apple earbuds, you can buy after market foam tips on eBay. The foam tips make all the difference.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Get foam earbud tips. Solved all my issues, though im an earbud only kinda person anyway so i was gonna make em work one way or another.

by Unusual_Reporter_682 1 day ago

I use earbuds for work, they are compact, easier to wear with a hat, and are cooler. I don't have issues with them falling out (though I wear the ones with the ear loop) and no ear pain after 10 hours shifts.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

yeah mine fall out pretty easily too, but i can keep them in for probably like 2 hours before they start hurting. but i can't eat with them on because the movement of my jaw makes them fall out

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Get clip on ear buds. I have the opendots one and they just sort of clip onto your ear and theyre unobtrusive enough that I legitimately sometimes forget im wearing them and if I know I am I will forget if im wearing 1 or 2.

by Jeannepollich 1 day ago

I've had custom earplugs made, and the person that made the mold said I have unusually shaped ears... consequently, ear buds fall out all the time. now I'm using earbuds that have ear hooks (a hook that goes above the ear and curves around back) and they stay in great. at the moment, the ones I have are just cheap Lenovo ones I got from AliExpress, and they're fine, but once they kick the bucket, I'm going to invest in a better pair that had noise cancelling.

by Hermanromaguera 1 day ago

I can wear them in my right ear, but not the left.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The only earbuds I enjoy are the ones that loop around the back of the ear. Secure and comfortable. Nice middle ground.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I love the base version apple airpods that sit in your ear. The pro version with the rubber tips and pretty much any other earbuds that go into your ear canal do not fit my ears. I hate the noise cancelling earbuds trend, I don't need rubber tips shoved into my brain that don't even fit properly and fall out with the slightest touch. But yeah the apple ones without the tips are great, they fit perfectly and stay in

by Pretend-Local-7376 1 day ago

I only like Apple's earbud design. I can't use the ones with the rubber tips because they never fit and have all the same problems you described. My gen 3 AirPods are super comfortable

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah, I feel the same with regard to fit and comfort.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I have no idea why buds with ear hooks did not become the dominant standard

by Delicious_Sun_3093 1 day ago

One pair. Always in the damn sink, I was cautious about the toilet... I'm all about the bone condition.

by aishaquitzon 1 day ago

I felt the same way until I found ones that work for me. Jabra elite 8 active, works well even while running. Small so it's easy to fit in my purse etc. The only con is that it gets dirty from ear wax :/

by Fun_Carpenter 1 day ago

I'm with you but it's definitely our ears. My most recent pair of ear buds is my favourite but the right one specifically just will not stay in. If I'm out walking or doing anything that requires sudden movement I'll wear the left one only.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm a wannabe audiophile. I listen to music often on high quality headphones with a headphone amp using flac/wav files. But I also love my earbuds. I use my Jabras everyday, they are convenient, sound great and I have literally never had an issue with them fitting in my ears. I think you just need a pair that have interchangable fittings to personalize for your ears.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yea, I have never had ear buds fit, the also create moisture in my ear. Rather headphones myself.

by Impossible_Record 1 day ago

If your earbuds are falling out so easily, then they aren't fitted correctly

by Andres92 1 day ago

I can wiggle my ears, if I make any facial expressions buds will pop out... I wear earplugs for work, I can break the seal to hear with a muscle.. I'm on a bone conducting kick.

by aishaquitzon 1 day ago

I'm a headphones man myself. They're far superior.

by Last_Mycologist82 1 day ago

Earbuds have always made my ears swell up and hurt if I wear them longer than twenty minutes or so. I've always preferred headphones.

by Muted_Jello 1 day ago

I feel like they trap the heat in my head like a tea kettle. When I get fatigued, I rip them out. Even prior to a sprint. I hate them too

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I agree with all this, except there IS one bad thing about headphones. If you wear glasses then the headphones press the legs into the sides of your head and it starts to hurt after a few minutes.

by Framiisabelle 1 day ago

I get it. What I don't like is the weirdly designed ones with the flat opening. I don't get how they're meant to fit in ears. I paid for the AirPods Pro because they actually insert into my ear and not awkwardly sit on my ear. I would prefer over ear but many brands don't make them phone call compatible.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Hi OP… I also have narrow ear canals. What you described is exactly my experience. After a decade of thinking that I was doing something wrong I switched back to over-the-ear.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I use over the ear earphones so they dont slide around or fall out. They're not bulky so easier to hide at work, and I can wear one at a time and swap to the other side when one dies so I get double the charged time.

by Automatic_Damage7046 1 day ago

Yeah personally I only like wired headphones. They sound better no battery issues and no falling

by Powerful_Neat 1 day ago

I don't get how people wear headphones in the gym. I have a set of nice Bose headphones, but they can retain heat, and the ear cushions can retain sweat. I got some Raycon earbuds for the gym, and it's way better. They have yet to fall out, whether I'm biking, running, or lifting

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I call earbuds "earwax collectors". I swear I'll spend 5 minutes cleaning my ear using any means necessary, until I don't pull out any wax, yet the earbud will still have earwax.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They don't fit in my ears. Plugs are Too large.

by Irunolfsdottir 1 day ago

You clearly haven't tried Apple's EarPods or AirPods. They don't fall out

by Expert_Amphibian_611 1 day ago

I have tried them. They do fall out or they start hurting if I make too many movements with my face. Just face it, ear buds are not for everyone.

by Proud_Procedure_2971 1 day ago

But they're so fragile

by Born-End 1 day ago

I have the wired earbuds for my iPhone. I've yanked them out catching them on something, washed them im my pants pockets more times than I can count and just generally abuse them. Do they last forever…no but I think I get my $15-20 out them before they get destroyed.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

In what way fragile? I've been using them for years with no issues.

by Expert_Amphibian_611 1 day ago
