+59 College should be all online free, amirite?

not a lot of people do well with just online classes for many reasons. invalidated.

Ok. but we should make it an option at least.

Go spend 60K on a business degree so you can find out this won't work. Adding that the income and education divide is not at the college level. Almost impossible, but fixing inner city education would be the first step; not even focusing on college.

That's a good point actually

this is a great idea for college as a pipeline to employment (which is what college currently exists as) but an extremely terrible idea for college as a means to attain expertise in a rigorous field of study (which is what it used to be)

This is a great idea actually. People who paid for their education might be against it. Companies could have an exam when they hire people to make sure they know all the required info.

When I went to college I mostly just attended lectures and did my homework. There was no real reason I needed to be there. I think the main issue with online classes is there is a public perception that they are low quality due to the early online schools basically being scams. There were two classes that I had to take online and they were fine compared to in person classes. We had a group project that we did through Skype. There's some things that can't beat face to face but overall I agree there should at least be a cheap online alternative.

You mean no socializing? yeah same just made one friend per class to give me the deets in case I missed.

I was working 40 hours a week so I didn't have much time for a normal college experience. The only socialization I did was play basketball at the rec center which was a good experience

So, from a paperwork perspective, I get it. From an education perspective, lots of colleges do put their lectures out there, the problem is, as I'm assuming you're getting at, you don't get a degree out of it.

One of my professors did something similar. He was old and looked distressed like his wife had died or something. At one point he said y'all don't have to show up anymore only for the final.

I agree in that more online classes should be offered and i like the idea of videos vs. just reading a textbook and taking a test. Most of my study was self-guided anyway. Highly depends on field of study though. Some things still need to be hands-on but most info can be easily learned on your own. i disagree that it should be free…whoever is creating lessons should be paid.

Of course the lesson creators should be paid. The fed gives 60 Billion to universites each year, maybe start there.

I'm mostly with you here but what about hands on aspects like labs? Most of the programs I was in were heavily based in practical skills. I was in labs for 15hrs a week. And those materials cost ALOT to the point where I know I'm getting my moneys worth.

Yeah see the issue is number 1 separating the doors from the non poors. That's a feature not a bug

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Doesn't have to be.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Absolutely. There seems to be reputable universities offering fully online degrees. For full price! I don't understand that part. For that much money I can hire a private tutor for 1 on 1 learning.

How will the teachers get paid?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Same way they do now but there will be a lot less of them.

Wow, super unpopular opinion bud
