My main issue with this kind of music is that its main audience is a group of people who are largely racist but will still listen to music co-opting from a demographic that they hate and turn it into soulless, commercial slop

don't get me wrong, i dont primarily listen to these songs. im just saying that i dont think that they are "bad"; life is about balance. i love listening to jeff buckley and mitski, but at the same time other songs dont hurt haha

Sometimes I listen to songs ironically and then I'd catch myself singing them at random. Like that bouncing off my booty cheeks one. The lyrics don't matter if it's catchy I guess lol.

Same boat, there are multiple bands that I listen to that have 1 monthly listener on Spotify (me). What I've discovered is there are more or less 2 groups of music consumers; There is the group of people who quite specifically want to hear songs that they have heard before or songs that sound like songs that they have heard before, this is almost everyone. Then there is a (much smaller) group of people who only want to hear music that they have never heard before and doesn't sound like the other stuff they have heard. This group inevitably ends up listening to a lot of "bad" music, because group 1 doesn't like anything that isn't derivative of something they have already heard. You are not alone, there are dozens of us on the planet.

Most people love terrible music. Pop music has almost no musical value. It's barely even music, but everyone loves it!
