+48 Peoples with perfectly clean homes are weird, amirite?

by No_Plum_2268 2 days ago

My grandmother had a perfect home. She just liked it that way, everything had a place and she just put things back in their place. She never worked so her house was her pride. It was also a single wide trailer. She was the sweetest little lady in the world and once I asked her about her clean house and she said it's funny how her friends would always give her grief over her perfectly clean home. She said "I never said anything about their messy houses!" So the lesson from her - people like things the way they like them, why criticize other people for something like that? She taught me to be a lot less judgmental.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

My grandma was the same, except we (grandkids, hell even the adults) would get in trouble for leaving messes. I get it, she liked her stuff very particular, but YOU invited 10 kids and 5 adults into your home… what did you think was going to happen gma? lol she is gone now but every time I see one of her "triggers" (towels on the bed/floor was one) I will be like "okay gma I'm getting it!"

by Ehomenick 2 days ago

Maybe I would too but that is a highly theoretical situation to the extent that even I would be suspicious of me if I suddenly found my place to be overly clean

by Pauline31 2 days ago

I'd be checking to see if something I've bought recently is actually bootleg amphetamines.

by Fun_Minimum 2 days ago

Right? Maybe I just like not stepping on Legos and mystery crumbs doesn't mean I'm hiding a secret life

by That_Sand255 2 days ago

I mean, in this hypothetical, I would at least own a home whereas those wankers are probably renting a flat/apartment. So if they wanna be assholes, I can feel superior to them in that way lmao

by FinancialCan 1 day ago

Why would you hypothetically own a house but they are renting? "Feel superior" im not sure they're the assholes lol

by fredmertz 1 day ago

Why would only you be homeowner in this situation??

by MarketCharacter8451 1 day ago

Being suspicious of is a little crazy yeah, and I'm someone who understands not personality liking super pristine homes. I don't like germs, so my house is clean, but I've been to peoples homes that made me feel like I was in a museum and couldn't touch anything. To each their own, obviously, I don't have to live there. But it is a little uncomfortable in my experience.

by MarketCharacter8451 1 day ago

if you're offended by that you are actually insecure aren't you?!

by PromptResponsible659 1 day ago

I get what you mean, but for me it's mostly about decorations. I like seeing kids' artwork on the fridge, mismatched mugs, novelty throw pillows, and random trinkets. Houses that have all matching decorations, "live laugh love" paintings, and stuff that's all part of one set lack personality.

by CaterpillarOwn 1 day ago

Same. Lemme see your "stuff" lol. Some kind of indicator that you have a personality/live your life outside of beige walls and natural wood decor.

by Nervous_Knowledge 1 day ago

Or you know different people like different types of decorations. I hate when people judge other people for their styles almost as much as I hate when people judge others on what kind of beer they drink.

by Efrenhammes 1 day ago

Fair point!

by CaterpillarOwn 1 day ago

Really this just sounds like someone's who insecure about their messy home projecting those feelings on people who keep their houses clean.

by Lisettefriesen 1 day ago

I think you're just trying to rationalize being a slob 🤷🏾

by richard11 1 day ago

Came here to say this...

by Schulistmylene 1 day ago

Not what he is talking about. Way to take it in bad faith. He is talking about people whose homes look like an apartment showing, an absolutely pristine apartment that looks like no one even lives there. Do you not ever make any clutter ?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I clean up after myself.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Cleaning up after yourself isn't always like an instant thing. I have a jar of mayo and a cutting board on my counter because I just made a sandwich. But as soon as I eat my sandwich I'll go clean that stuff up because I hate having stuff on my counter. It's easier to clean as you go, and my space is very small so the clutter can pile up quickly.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

When I make a mess I clean it up. It's called being an adult.

by Relevant-Spread 1 day ago

Nah youre the one wanting to be oroud of being a clean freak

by BrilliantIll6898 1 day ago

Same. As someone who works full time and also lives alone, I get behind, but there's still a threshold. Like mold, food spills, etc all get taken care of immediately. Im mostly just unorganized rather than unclean. And dishes all get the kitchen sink, even if they're not done immediately

by No-Cup 1 day ago

Minimalism is the only thing that keeps me functional with ADHD. What clutter is required for me to be functional?

by According-Letter211 1 day ago

A lot of minimalism is so phony too. These people still have a ton of stuff, it's just hidden away in concealed storage rooms.

by antonia25 1 day ago

Yeahhhh hard pass in the clutter

by Useful-Sell-5592 1 day ago

Why would I have random shoes in my living room??

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah we are a no shoes inside household

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Is that because your house is dirty and you want to feel better about your house stinking and being dirty?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Dirty =/= untidy And OP isn't advocating for either. You can have a perfectly clean and hygienic house even with the normal clutter of a home that is being lived in.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I mean, there's obviously a middle ground. Don't be hyperbolic. I disagree with OP as well, but I can easily understand what they're talking about. A perfectly, immaculately clean room - especially with a minimalist aesthetic - can give an overly sterile "clean room in a semiconductor facility" or "hospital room that was just deep cleaned" type of feeling for some people, I suppose. I can kind of see how having a slightly messy room that's like 90% clean but still slightly disorganized could be more comfortable.

by FinancialCan 1 day ago

As a kid my friend's parents'house was like. There was no clutter, no nicnaks, and very few decorations. Everything was predominantly white. Reminded me of a museum.

by Normal_Subject_9129 1 day ago

Idk. I tend to feel more welcome if the place actually looks lived in. I'm kinda on the fence. Like… if your house is SUPER clean then I feel like you did wayyyy too much work before I came over. And that feels like a performance. Makes me wonder what it looked like before. On the other hand. If it's nasty af? Oh I'm leaving right away. TL;DR House should be clean but if there's some laundry on the couch and some dog hair in your rug. Open magazines on the side table and some coffee stains on your coffee table? We're probably gonna be best friends.

by Rosaliawunsch 1 day ago

I just don't have the energy to keep my home in pristine condition.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It's because the opinion is delivered in a rude way. OP made the assumption that everyone who has a clean house is insecure or hiding secrets. It's very rude to just assume that about someone especially when all they do is clean their house. I'm no expert on psychology and such but that seems like projection on OP's part.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It's because the opinion is delivered in a rude way. Ok, fair.

by SavingsMoist 1 day ago

Have a good day :)

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Patrick Bateman makes up for his humble origins by keeping a fastidiously sterile apartment.

by wardberneice 1 day ago

Ppffft no dishes in the sink? Wonder how many people they've cheated on...

by Secure-Bag 1 day ago

Designated spot for shoes? Clearly they're an insecure loser…

by Anonymous 1 day ago

messy isn't the same as cleanliness though, someone can be disorganised and cluttered but still hygienic

by kulasalthea 1 day ago

In that case, I have too much personality in my house.

by Spiritual-Potato 1 day ago

A lot of people obsessively panic clean before someone comes over. They want to provide a nice environment and don't want to be judged. What you're seeing probably isn't how they live day to day in most cases

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Growing up, Dad always said, never trust anyone that has a spotless home.

by Citlallismith 1 day ago

I mean I get what you're saying, but I also get a sense of satisfaction out of "everything has a place, everything in its place" at the end of the day. It's my house, after all, I should be comfortable in it. To each their own

by NormalTone 1 day ago

Or, we're normal, and you're the weird one.

by Traceyaltenwert 1 day ago

Agreed. I feel awkward when I visit a super clean house, like I'll mess something up if I sit down or eat something.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I agree. The Great Decluttering has gone too far

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yes and no: sterile is not a good condition for anyone. Function is important. Color and personality are important. Clutter is fine-ish. (Doom piles are very different from hoarder stacks.) being clean is absolutely necessary.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Your home is a reflection of your inner self. A messy house creates a messy mind, and vice versa. I want my home to be a relaxing and beautiful place. Keeping it perfectly clean is an important part of that.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I personally see the whole overly clean home thing as just trying too hard. I find it genuinely uncomfortable.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm not happy in a messy house. My kids make messes cause they're kids but we pick up at the end of the day. My home isn't white glove clean but I need it to be at least neat. That's my preference, I don't do it for anyone else

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Whats perfectly clean to you? My house is always clean but also always a little messy. Those two things aren't the same. Clean means the surfaces, curtains and most things are cleaned, maybe some of them disinfected, its free of crumbs and such. But it can still get messy, specially if you have a toddler who brings their toys from one room to another. If you mean like instagram-clean and always tidied up to the tiniest bit, then that's circumstantial.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Ok, so you're dirty.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This reads like someone told you that your house is dirty

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Peoples brah?

by Mariettastolten 1 day ago

If you're a dingy bum, just say it.

by Impressive-Drag 1 day ago

Peoples?

by Neat-Dealer-2617 1 day ago

So if I dont have a mold infestation I'm an insecure loser?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Ah yes, equate what the OP said "little messy, random pair of shoes" to mold infestation. He is obviously talking about people whose houses look like no one lives there, where it just looks empty.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You seem like youre fun at parties. Hope the guests like mold 😜

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I sure hope you aren't like that in real life. It would be absolutely impossible for you to be in a relationship. A shoe not perfectly lined up = mold infestation. Lol

by Anonymous 1 day ago

People that don't how to say the plural of person are weird

by leoneherzog 1 day ago

The one guy with OCD thinks you're an asshole

by Yundtelda 1 day ago

wtf lol I'm not insecure, I just like when things are neat and clean. I work better and can relax better when things are tidy. Just tidying up itself can be relaxing for me and I genuinely like cleaning and find it very satisfying. I personally hate clutter so I don't keep things I don't use and am smart about how I organize things so it takes up the least amount of space. Please tell me what I'm hiding by having a clean house lmao

by volkmanalysson 1 day ago

I relax a lot more with a clean place. Also being clean is nice
