+48 If dogs sweated like human beings, they probably would not be popular pets. amirite?

Panting with the little pink tongue hanging out is much cuter!

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Common myth! Nothing to do with sweating

by Anonymous 2 days ago

How do they do thermal regulation then?

by Even_Importance 2 days ago

I said that panting has nothing to do with sweating, which is actually bang-on. They sweat through their paw pads, not through their tongue, as is repeated in the common myth.

Ah. So technically correct. Fair enough.

??? It has everything to do with sweating because it's the heat dissipation method for dogs. Maybe I'm wrong about this but I've never heard of anybody thinking dogs sweat with their, what, tongue?

by joana98 1 day ago

Everyone I've ever met who owns a dog and didn't do well at school says, "Dogs sweat through their tongues that's why they pant"

Paws

Do they sweat? Or get super warm from blood rushing to them?

They'd have to be nearly hairless then too

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Horses sweat and they're pretty hairy.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Um no. Dogs are a no for me because they drool.

by Martin43 1 day ago

Wait till you hear about human babies. Drool isn't half of it

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Ah yes, I've heard about human babies — it's a NO.

If dogs sweated like us, man's best friend would've been man's soggy mistake.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Not to be confused with your mother.

xD

well not like humans but through their paws

by Careless-Young 1 day ago

Imagine giving your pup a hug and just... drenched. Yeah nah, give me the panting and tail wags over sweaty snuggles any day

by Anonymous 1 day ago

God… I'm imagining petting my best friend's lab, and my hand just comes away damp… every time. Not to mention the smell following them everywhere.

Those hairless cats get clammy. It's kind of weird at first but then you're just like, oh right it's a cat it's still adorable.

As other people have mentioned dogs do in fact sweat through their paws, and if you ever get a whiff of a dogs' paws they often smell like corn chips. That's basically what dog sweat smells like, so imagine if they had sweat glands all over their body, instead of just between their toes, you'd have a hairy little friend who smelled like Fritos. On a similar note, horses sweat buckets, but I don't think their sweat is as much a factor in their popularity as pets, as their size and cost. I'm trying to say that if horses were as small and as (comparatively) cheap as dogs, they would probably be our sweaty pets too.

This is very accurate. Though they do get us with their drool, shedding and horrible breath.
