+66 All AI companions are literally binary. amirite?

All programs are literally binary. The ENTIRE computer science field boils down to 0 and 1s

by judahstiedemann 1 day ago

To be fair, there are a lot of 1s and 0s in there.

It's even wilder when you realize that its not actually numbers, but gates allowing electric current to flow

by judahstiedemann 1 day ago

That's at the lowest level, in between human readable code and all the tiny transistors it does get converted into 1s and 0s

by General_Program6030 1 day ago

I literally said that.

by judahstiedemann 1 day ago

Sometimes it's not even current flowing, but just some electrons stuffed in some little bitty cells they don't really want to be in

GET ME OUT OF HERE!

No. Stay.

(And that is the ELI5 for NAND degradation and bit rot)

Man, i took the free cpurse that teaches how to make a pc from strach with the gates. That was NOT an easy concept to grasp lol

Until somebody comes out with a quantum computing AI.

What is the significance of that realization? Is that your way of saying "so they're not actually that amazing"? I am unimpressed. Every digital device is "literally binary", by definition. Personal computers, smartphones, TVs, digital watches, calculators, even some parts of your microwave, … But it doesn't have to be that way inherently. Binary is just one of a many possible number systems, and what people decided would be an efficient way to represent the possible states of a transistor.

You should have said "universal function approximators".

are you trying to make a gender joke about AI? bc everything digital is binary. absolutely all of machine language comes down to just the 0 and 1.
