+35 Joaquin Phoenix is not a good actor, amirite?

Dude I hated this guy so badly for his role in Gladiator. Like, he played the character so well I hated Joaquin Phoenix as a person. I refused to watch the Johnny Cash movie for a couple years because of it and I love Johnny Cash. It took me a long time to get over it and it was just because he nailed his role.

I've said this so many times it's actually an inside joke in my family. They all know I hate him and it's literally just because of watching Gladiator as a kid.

This is a lie!

The problem with The Joker was the writing, not the acting. Phoenix in Gladiator is one of the finest performances of all time.

No, he simply leaned into being gaunt and pathetic.

Did he take lessons from you?

by Amparo25 5 hours ago

Explain what you mean by this as your sick burn doesn't really make sense.

by Alarmed-Ladder-5087 5 hours ago

He is a good actor but extremely overrated in the sense he's way too self important about being picky about what he's in because god forbid he's not the central of attention.

Now that you mention it would be nice to see him in a supporting role once in a while.

If you want reality go people watching

PSH is a gem and outclassed Joaquin.

One of my absolute favorites.

He's a better rapper

Dude absolutely crusheddd his role in gladiator though, the perfect actor to play that role. The underlying rage, chip on the shoulder at life and cowardice was played to perfection by him He should have got an Oscar

Definitely unpopular. It's possible that you're simply unable to separate "doesn't work for me" from "not good." For example, Will Ferrell's comedy has never worked for me (I find him very annoying), but his stylings work for many others. I can't say he is necessarily bad at comedy if his work is so beloved by others. His work isn't for me. For me, his work in Inherent Vice and You Were Never Really Here put him in the category as a very good actor.

Genuinely think he's one of the best actors working today.

Completely disagree with you.

I think I agree with this. I would put Christian Bale in the same catagory.

Christian Bale is an absolute legend. American Psycho is a cult classic. Joaquin was a decent actor early on but I like how OP put it when he said he went to the Sean Penn school of overacting.
