+23 Juicing fruit is extremely dumb. amirite?

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

I agree that whole fruit is healthier than juice but that doesn't mean it's "dumb." I don't think pie is dumb because it's worse for you than fruit, or ice cream is dumb because it has more sugar than milk.

Exactly this^

That's fair. I should've worded my complaint differently.

I feel like there's this mega just ass tier culture of health nuts who don't actually do anything to be healthy. Like you get a lot of people who will go really insane I'm about whether you're eating the right kind of bean or about fresh squeezed juice, but these people get oddly quiet when you mention that the vast majority of health is physical training and few of them do that at all. I mean yeah, fresh squeezed juice without any pulp is a little bit unhealthy. Is a blood sugar spike gonna kill the average person? Will my powerlifting total go down if I buy a fruit juicer? If I were to follow around fat people and secretly watch their lifestyle, would it be a fruit juicer in every home? Maybe two for the morbidly obese? Obesity is like 99% caused by being just not quite right in the head and making systematically bad decisions over and over and over again, not by having a drink that's maybe a little better than soda due to being less industrialized but not that much better due to similar macros. Fresh squeezed juice doesn't really lend itself to just downing drink after drink after drink and having like an extra thousand calories. It really doesn't matter for most people in practical terms.

You know you dont have to throw away the pulp and fiber right?

by cummingsmervin 3 hours ago

Okay but be honest, how many people use juiced fruits? You've taken the best part of the fruit out.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

I dont go inside other peoples homes too often so Im not sure, but I find a way to use it in other dishes or add some of the pulp back

by cummingsmervin 3 hours ago

Me, it goes great in doughs and stews and its not hard to make fruit leather. Hardly anyone is unhealthy enough that 1 cup of juice without the fiber will have dangerous consequences. A can of Soda is more "dangerous", relax.

Hmm. Well, no, duh. Most healthy people can handle a little bit of anything a little "bad" and not get really sick. Drinking juice isn't going to kill you, just like drinking a tablespoon of sugar or maple syrup won't. My point is just highlighting how juicing removes the "good" from fruit. If you juice, do your thing. Just be aware of what its doing.

Did she get out the blender or the juicer? Cos blender is for puree and juicer is for juice. Juicer takes out much of the fiber where a blender keeps it.

Why not blend it instead of juicing it? I know a lot more people with blenders, and the fiber and prebiotics stay.

How else do you suggest we get fruit juice if not by juicing fruit?

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

Fruit juice isn't healthy. That's the point. Juice isn't healthy.

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

But I like juice

by Busy_Significance 1 hour ago

That doesn't make it dumb though

by Busy_Significance 1 hour ago

As a "healthy" option, I should have clarified and simply stated that it's dumb from a health standpoint.

So you suggest people stick to drinking water and booze then?

sometimes i dont wanna use my teeth and enjoy sugar rush

Or drink something cold and fresh on a hot day.

It's pretty sad that apart from water and maybe some teas, there is pretty much nothing left that is actually healthy to drink. Fruit juice? SUGAR Soft drinks? SUGAR² Milk? HORMONES, SATURATED FAT Coffee? CAFFEINE, SUGAR Sports drinks? SUGAR, SODIUM Energy drinks? SUGAR, ARTIFICAL SWEETENERS Whiskey? Cocktails? Beer? ALCOHOL (and maybe gluten and sugar) At least with solid food we got plenty of healthy choices, but with liquids it's cruel.
