+35 Low balling sellers is completely acceptable to do, amirite?

by Carissadicki 7 hours ago

Exactly. People like OP don't understand the art of negotiation.

by chase61 7 hours ago

Ugh. You're right, but hearing 'the art of negotiation' is so close to a trumpism it makes me sick.

by Correct-Landscape777 6 hours ago

Well, he did art of the deal his way to President, so maybe it has some merit

by chase61 6 hours ago

Ditto. Don't waste my time. There's a buyer who'll really want my item…and I can wait.

Nobody says you can't do that, but they also don't have to accept your offer, either. I recently had a garage sale. The people who low-balled were awful to work with. Most people were reasonable in their offers. The few that really low-balled got flat out mean. It was like they were trying to steal, but for their own consciouses, wanted to give a pittance so they felt like they paid fair and square. I don't have any respect for that kind of behavior. Be fair and reasonable.

This depends on what is being sold. For example, my husband restores and sells vintage stereos, guitars, etc. There is a market value for these things, and often they will be listed as "priced to sell." That means that the market value has been researched and this is a very good deal - he wants to get it sold fast. If someone offers $800 for a restored stereo worth at least $2,000, it's not even worth dealing with that person.

they will just treat you as someone not to deal with. especially with your entitled attitude.

by AnyBreath8985 5 hours ago

Did anyone else catch that he actually low-balled himself from 10000000% to a mere 100% within mere sentences!?? This dude's got the low-ball fever, baby!

by Maleficent-Ball-4590 5 hours ago

you will go home empty handed don't waste my time.

by No-Gear 5 hours ago

You're the guy I give a time and location 40 minutes away to meet and I never show lol.

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

just pay the listed price.... its rude otherwise.

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

Strongly agree. Haggling is low-class and a waste of everyone's time. When I list anything for sale, I always include "price is firm". I don't haggle or entertain "offers", because I don't try to take advantage of people. Someone will always pay what I'm asking, and it usually doesn't take long. And if I want something and I don't see a price listed that I'm willing to pay, I just don't buy it.

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

I should have mentioned in my other replies that the statement "price is firm" will make it so I will not try to haggle That is where I draw the line. If that statement is not mentioned, then I do believe i would try and haggle

So my LGS/local sellers get to Lowball me, and I can't do the same thing? Why should sellers/scalper be able to Lowball, but others can not

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

Lowballing is a part of the negotiating process. If you go too low, it shows you either don't know the value of the product you want, or you are just trying to take advantage of the seller. I've had products on websites for a while because they are niche and people try to lowball without knowing what it's worth. It's all apart of the game, someones gotta be left holding the bag. You just pray it isn't you.

Low ball DEEZ NUTZ!!!

by ReviewMoney7664 3 hours ago

It's acceptable except when it's a scalper. If you're gonna just relist it for more you're a POS.

by sheldon58 3 hours ago

My games shops buy a card off me for 55 dollars, and list it for 65 are they a scalper?

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Judging by the listed asking prices on FB marketplace and Craigslist, the sellers may be calling a fair offer a low-ball.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Everything has a bid and an ask price. Listing offer price online is just the ask price. What someone bids for it is not rude. It's just the amount they're willing to part with to purchase it. There may be other people willing to bid higher. But I guess you'll just have to wait for that bid to come along

by Better-Agency7589 2 hours ago

Yes lowballiing is acceptable. As is not dignifying a lowball offer with a response.

by New_Berry 2 hours ago

I don't have a problem with an extreme lowball offer. So long as you don't mind me accepting the offer and making you drive across the city…and then I'll never show up.

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

I do it on eBay weekly. The make an offer button is my best friend

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

Why is the button there if I can't use it.

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

I think it is fine to haggle prices. If the seller doesn't say explicitly that he firm on his price, I'd try and shave a few dollars on a card. Most of the time, it doesn't work, and I can decide if I think the card is actually worth the full price. Just because the market has a median price for every item doesn't mean every card is said price. Some people might be selling on speculation, and the price will drop, and they would like to move it quickly. And my lgs will buy cards at below market price, so why can't I try the same with sellers?

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

Be prepared to get passed over for people who are willing to pay the asking price

by Abject-Let-202 48 minutes ago

I'd rather burn it than give it to you when you ask for a lower price. I'm already pricing things i'm selling there just on what my time is worth. Multiple times I've had a buyer get to my house and I go "yknow what, just take it" because it's about respect and communication. A scammy unlicensed dealer? Absolutely lowball them. Me selling a bed frame for $10? just pay and pick it up
