+16 Society is overly negative: we live in best time in history, amirite?

Except that people spend as much if not more time online than out in society…..

If they choose to - and spoiler alert - those are the miserable ones.

Internet products are designed to be addictive, and reduce your ability to do and enjoy other things, so it's a trap that most people I talk to admit they're in.

Young kids tend to get like this and these ones have access to everything so they're extra gloom and doomy. It's like hyper angst.

No responsibility it's a foundational pillar to good character.

Tell me you didn't live in the 90's without telling me you didn't live in the 90's.

One of the things that was awful in the 90s was there was no TV shows on DVD or VHS, and obviously there was no streaming. So, if you missed an episode, you better hope to randomly catch it in syndication (reruns), and that is if the show was good enough for that. Also, most shows in syndication have 5 seasons, and 24 episodes a season, so good luck finding that episode. Seems like a minor thing, but it was really annoying when you had to miss an episode. One of the things people forget when they rave about the bygone eras. I still remember how amazing it was when they started releasing TV shows on DVD, and when binging started. It was amazing.

Depends on for who. For a straight white male, yeah you're probably right that the 90s were a better time. For minorities, it most definitely wasn't. Casual racism was a lot worse, same for language that's harmful to disabled people. And obviously gay discrimination was way worse, with the overwhelming majority of Americans being against gay marriage. etc

Very telling. We are quickly sliding backwards.

As someone who lived in the 90s, strongly disagree. Gay rights, advances in medicine especially HIV which used to be a death sentence and now something that's much easier to treat than diabetes, crime was much higher in the 90s, we have much better quality of life now across the board. Of course we have problems now, the world will never have problems, but we are very well off compared to before.
