+46 Kobe beef is only a status symbol, amirite?

I prefer my steaks medium rare, but for wagyu, I prefer it medium because of that extra fat. It tastes better. Wagyu is better than regular steak. Whether you think wagyu is worth the extra price is a whole another matter.

It's a status symbol that tastes delicious. If you think eating a stick of butter is the same as eating an expensive steak then either you got some rare butter we don't know about or you don't actually know what a good steak tastes like.

I'll have you know I've microwaved every cut of beef at least twice. All the same.

When I went to Tokyo I went and got Kobe beef by myself. Then I went back two days later, by myself. So wasn't really much of a status symbol. Was absolutely delicious. Wasn't crazy expensive there either. I will request an american wagyu steak for my birthday some years. These are excellent, too. Maybe you need a NY strip instead of ribeye? It is very common for people to prefer a NY Strip over the fattier ribeye.

Just because you're the only person you're impressing doesn't make it not a status symbol. And now you get to tell this story

Its not a status symbol in Tokyo. Yeah I guess I can tell other people that I had a delicious steak in Tokyo. But I think the Tokyo trip is enough for that, if that's what I was going for.

Well if it is a status symbol, it's the most delicious symbol ever. So I think I can deal with it.

i agree if a non-pro, not trained individual is responsible for cooking the kobe kobe prepared by an actual professional chef though? legit heavenly

Never had it. But from pictures it looks too fatty for me But i do want to try it. And im pretty sure if you havent been to Japan people havent tried real kobe/wagyu

The fat in real wagyu has a very low melting point, so texturally it's not rubbery or overly chewy like fat on a regular steak can be. Once it's cooked, it's extremely tender and melts in your mouth. It is extremely rich though.

It smells like bone marrow. I can't stomache it.

Someone doesn't know the difference between Kobe and Wagyu 😂 I've been to Kobe, Japan during my months in Kyoto-just to eat Kobe beef. It's incredible and has a lot of bite to it. It's Wagyu that has a bunch of cuts that are more marbling than muscle. Real Kobe is real steak and it's delicious. Congratulations on having a truly unpopular opinion though ✨

You must be vegan

This will be unpopular, but I completely agree. You're essentially eating butter, it needs to be paired with something. Nobody eats foie gras on its own, it's always served with bread or part of a broader dish. Same should go for wagyu.

Tried it once felt like I was eating buttery steak flavored foam definitely not worth the hype

Yes! You speak the truth.

I believe the butter will be less sickly than the kobe beef

You're on a roll!

So, those stakes are intended to be shared among a small group, not a single person.
