+46 Flag waving does f#ck all. amirite?

It's for visibility, and to let others know what that establishment, business, or residence stands for. People have pride in their beliefs, whether it aligns with you or not.

How does pride helps?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It creates unity, for a minority group. Lets them know they're accepted/supported at that place.

Or they just cynical capitalists that want their money.... corporations add flags when popular, then omit them when the cultural winds seem to change.

It helps by normalising something. For example if a gay couple walks into a part of town where bars and businesses hang a rainbow flag they may feel safer and be more likely to use that place of business without fear of discrimination or violence. This is especially true of bars in my experience.

by Hayleezboncak 2 days ago

Wouldn't it be better if they were accepted regardless of what flag the business is displaying?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's symbolic. You're thinking way too deep.

by Dahliaherzog 2 days ago

Normalizes stuff, bands people together. A lot of the houses in my neighborhood have American flags on them for that reason

by vivianeohara 2 days ago

It doesn't. You're right, we should all be completely neutral to ashamed about every single thing that marks our identity.

they just create more division Which means they can also create unity among like-minded people...

In what way does flying an American flag in the US create division? It unifies us, that's what that flag represents, that despite our differences, we're all American.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Not anymore

by Anonymous 2 days ago

How so?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Used to represent, yes.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Why is it different now?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Still does.

Flags serve the same purpose they have always served: to be visible and provide something to rally around. Of course the flag itself doesn't do anything, but it serves as a way to show where your allegiance lies.

by Intelligent-Salt 2 days ago

waving your "i hate flag waving" flag today i see lol

by Anonymous 2 days ago

In what way do they create more division? Rallying for a cause gets the message out that change is needed, and helps embolden others with similar beliefs to speak out (or at the very least, act with more confidence) on those beliefs. The only division that occurs with protesting is trying to change the status quo. A thing that usually needs to be changed, if you're upset enough about it to go out on the streets and voice your concerns

I usually avoid places that have weird flags up in front anyway.

by keaganschultz 2 days ago

Don't ever talk about politics or religion was the universal understanding to get along. Then came social media online and flags offline.

by Sea_Excitement_6978 2 days ago

Do you mean like Pride flags? Or American flags? Definitely agree flying an American flag in America is pretty stupid lol like this ain't the Olympics bro we already live here.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It shows support and awareness.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Support how? Financial? Awareness as in: "Oh, hey, there they are!"?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That includes the American flag, right?
