Men crave emotional safety as much as women — they've just been shamed into silence about it. amirite?

Gen-Xer here, and sadly, you're spot on. Generally my generation was raised by the boomers and WWII babies. We were told that when we cried we were acting like babies, or were emasculated by our family and/or peers. it doesn't help that there are a lot of women (not all) who have a skewed idea of what they want in a partner.

Millennial here who was raised by grandparents. The first part is 100% true. It's taken years to unlearn so much of how I was raised

Is this unpopular? Don't we all know this? The patriarchy is so toxic for men too.

I blame women for this, not the patriarchy

Yes, this is unpopular and it's really easy to blame "the patriarchy". If you ask 1000 men why they don't open up anymore, 1000 will answer that it is because their ex partner weaponized it against them. Same results with the amounts of men you want to consider.

Not unpopular, but look how people are talking. There are adds out there trying to get people to speak. There is that group it ain't weak to speak. Trying to get men to open up. Not unpopular opinion but deserves to be here for the good this opinion has done.

Emotions know no gender. We're all humans craving for acceptance and emotional safety.

"Now bailey, you're never going to become a bigshot reporter by crying at your desk like this" "fine. ill cry in my car on the way home" "that's what the men do" -wkrp

All men want is respect

No, this is objectively incorrect (on average). Men do need emotional safety, yes. But not as much as women do. Reasoning: The Big Five trait of high neuroticism (negative emotion) correlates with women. Emotionally, women feel less safe as a default. This means they need to receive emotional safety from an external source more than men need to.
