+73 We seriously need to normalize not saying hi to every person we've ever met, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

Was just thinking this.

by Dangerous_Umpire 12 hours ago

Why are so many of you afraid of even the theoretical idea of community?

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

And the same people also complain because they are lonely and it's hard to make friends as an adult, and don't know how to meet people, lack of support.

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

It's called basic human decency. It won't kill you

by Kuvalisanibal 11 hours ago

Wow. Main character syndrome?

by HumbleImpression9576 11 hours ago

Wouldn't the main character want everyone to acknowledge them? This is more like set extra syndrome if anything.

by Shannontorphy 11 hours ago

Sometimes people were just background characters Such trash is beneath op.

Am I too german for this? This is completely normal in my area. In my district some people just say "good morning" when you see them in early morning hours but that is more of leftover village mindset. Overall majority just minds their own business.

by Anonymous 10 hours ago

Then wonder "why is everyone so lonely"? Golly gee I wonder why

by Quiet_Preference_875 10 hours ago

nah, its a really good habit to have. Theres nothing wrong with being freindly with people, a simple good morning, a smile or a nod goes a long way. I met a guy working at a retail store and I was friendly, maybe a 3 minute converstaion, then we saw each other at an art show and I was still friendly, maybe 2 minutes of my life, and it kept happening. Now hes a good friend and he connected me to good opportunities in my life. At worst you lose a second of your time saying hi.

by Anonymous 10 hours ago

Congratulations, that's already normal. You win.

by scottorphy 10 hours ago

What should we say then?

In Sweden, it's apparently okay to totally fail to spot someone that you know. Most Swedes walk around as if they had blinders?

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

Are you mayhaps from the States?

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

we're not like this, actually

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

My bad for stereotyping you.

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

Weak. Dumb.

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

you're out living your life and suddenly spot someone you kind of know. Panic sets in. Why is panic setting in?

by AnnualStranger 7 hours ago

Hi

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

Just say hi, the nod is normalized already if you're passing by or not in an area you can hear eachother. Saying hi takes 2 seconds you don't need to talk for hours.

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

To be fair, if the other person doesn't greet you either, y'all are on the same page and they shouldn't be mad that you didn't greet them. I say that because I had people complain about me not saying hi a few times even tho they didn't either, and it was so bizarre lol. I greet people most of the time time, and I guess at some point they take it for granted and get mad when I don't. Oh, well.

Head nod and smile.

by Much_Scientist_8144 5 hours ago

congratulations, this is an unpopular opinion and so relevant to the current state of widespread loneliness, alienation, and constant need to be online. i hate it here.

by jayme59 5 hours ago

some of my greatest opportunities in life have started by saying Hi

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

Hi 👋🏻

Saw this yesterday; she agrees.

While there are clearly IQ minimums for various activities, most studies show that having a hi EQ is a greater predictor of success.

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

we do not

by jaidenherzog 4 hours ago

I agree, but I feel like this will inevitably just lead to really immature high school like behaviors.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Why's it awkward? Seems like a you issue rather than a society issue. Give them a nod, a smile, a hello, or a what's up. Make their day a little brighter!
