+73 It wouldn't be "bad" if the human species went extinct, amirite?

by Emergency-Reality-30 11 hours ago

It would be bad for humans and that's the only thing that we actually care about because we're human.

by Own-Definition4690 11 hours ago

Right. It's almost as if every living being and species has the inherent will to populate and live on. Even plants do

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

I don't have any will to populate or live lol

by Automatic-Impress 11 hours ago

But once we're gone the concept of bad will no longer exist, so it's only bad up until then.

by RevolutionLocal2964 10 hours ago

Lol this is a good philosophical debate. Does morality exist without humans?

27* i say it bc i was the same lol

by Sarinamann 9 hours ago

Bad is a human idea. To your point, it wouldn't be anything but extinction if humans went extinct. It would just be. Kinda like humans existing. Not good or bad. Just is.

by hallie56 8 hours ago

That s what the guy is saying…disses people who label it "bad"

by No-Plankton8535 8 hours ago

But bad is a human concept and well by our definition of bad it would be bad

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

We believe in nothing Lebowski.

by Nakiakerluke 8 hours ago

Well, you'd be dead, so probably you wouldn't be able to get upset. So chill! It's all good. Hooray for happy endings!

by blanche23 8 hours ago

It does mean a significant group of people we see some dire times. Population collapse would be a horrifying thing to live through and outside a single cataclysm event, it would take many generations to get to extinction. I don't really care if I'm dead, those people's suffering will suck and I'd consider that a bad thing.

by Nakiakerluke 7 hours ago

Well if it happened I would also be extinct so I guess I'm neutral on this one.

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

Not sure how it's possible to miss the fact that they mean it's bad for humanity if humanity goes extinct. It's pretty common knowledge that if we disappeared tomorrow the planet would on the whole be significantly better off

by kerlukechloe 7 hours ago

HUMANS care, nature doesnt have a "better off".

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

"Better off" has absolutely nothing to do with caring.

by kerlukechloe 6 hours ago

I think it's important for us personally, obviously the rest of the world would be better off without us.

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

Professor Falken believes it will be the bees probably

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

I kinda almost see where you're coming from to an extent, but I think you're missing the fact that we are also like bugs and other animals. Meaning, we are programmed to ensure survival over all, like every life form. As intelligent as we are, why not try and colonize other planets? Why not try and survive even past our suns expiry date? I say "why not", like we have any other options. We're biologically programmed to survive at all costs, the only difference is, that fly that flew into my mouth and I swallowed didn't have what I took to survive in this fast paced, cruel world.

Planet earth is going to be fine without us, i think in hindsight we're just apes that developed capitalism and created plastic so no real loss of humans go extinct We are actively the ONLY (known) species that has the technological capability and cognitive reasoning skills to cure disease/feed each other and other organisms/protect the biome, etc.. but we chase internet clout and hoard imaginary dollars on a screen. Sounds like we're the problem 🤷🏾‍♂️

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

We don't know if the kind of intelligence we have, good or bad, will happen again. We also do not know if life is common enough in the universe. Personally, I think it is important to give us and life a chance to keep showing what it can do, and that happens by populating other places on purpose which so far requires humans. Of course you might not agree but that is the point... What matters is a personal (an cultural) thing, there is no objectivity in it beyond what you give it

by LevelAffectionate 5 hours ago

You really believe that the human race is the best the universe can do now and forever? You really believe that? Wow.

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

Unironically yes. No matter how advanced any potential aliens could be, they would still never be able to match even a fraction of humanity's awesomeness 👍

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

the vast majority of reasons to live involve keeping the human race alive.

by Educational_Bill 4 hours ago

Maybe we're the whole point though. As far as we can tell, we are the only way the Universe has developed into understanding itself.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

I wouldn't like it tbh

by Daishafahey 3 hours ago

Well you wouldnt feel anything, youd be dead too

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

The same reason you yourself want to live, but on a larger scale. Not really "important" it happens, but self preservation is one of the most basic human instincts. And if the survival of our species isn't important, what is?

by Consistent_Push 2 hours ago

No other species has come close to what we have achieved. Humanity shall conquer the universe.

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

Agreed, but only in mention of outerspace. We need to leave the moon alone if we want to continue living here.

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

Well, you know how to do your part.

by Mayerthaylie 1 hour ago

Nature will try again. With the bees, probably.

by Sarinamann 1 hour ago

From a human perspective it would be pretty bad. I think you get this, or you'd walk into traffic

by Abby01 1 hour ago

Get out of here. Life is too precious and unique.

by Anonymous 35 minutes ago

All species have a survival instinct. If that isn't you, don't let the door hit you on the way out

by Equivalent-Maize636 17 minutes ago

I'm sure we'll go extinct at some point. But what a footprint we'll leave behind!

by Anonymous 6 minutes ago

Was it "bad" when the moorean viviparous tree snail went extinct? How about the Pyrenean ibex?
