I'd argue that the cost and effort to make a good well done steak are much higher than just making a skilfully produce well done burger. Cooking a steak to well done basically mutes the flavour and texture of a steak. If you want a blander taste for your beef, entre, a cheap burger is, well, cheaper. I'm not trying to shame people who dont like Steak in the rare-to-medium-well range, but I think that if you need to turn a good steak into leather to eat it you should pick a different option.

That's a good reason to avoid steak at restaurants that don't specialize in it, if you like well done. Of course, it's usually better to cook your own steak at home compared to most of those restaurants. Good steakhouses know how to cook a well-done steak properly, and don't play those games.

Even those of us who LIKE well done steak it's going to be an unpopular opinion with, because frankly, anyone with sense knows that there's no accounting for taste, or as kindergarten teachers these days like to say "Don't yuck someone else's yum." Mind, "a well done steak is an absolute abomination" is just a rude way of saying "I don't enjoy well done steak." Which you're free not to, unless you're at a luck-of-the-draw sort of buffet in which case the steak is always gonna be a questionable choice.

Lol same, my dad raised me thinking that well done was the only way to eat beef in any form. A cheap well done steak or burger hits a weird nostalgic spot for me. I get proper medium rare 99% of the time, to be clear.

What type of steak do you order? A ribeye will be medium rare to medium for me, a sirloin maybe medium well, but I'm generally not a fan of that cut because it's too lean.
