Child-free marriages are non-sensical and go against community building. amirite?
by Anonymous1 day ago
You mean "weddings" not marriages
by Anonymous1 day ago
Do you mean weddings? Up until the 90s you couldn't ban family? What on earth?
by Junior681 day ago
Yeah yeah weddings.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Still wrong but ok.
by Junior681 day ago
I mean if you see weddings as simple parties... Yeah maybe I guess...
by Anonymous1 day ago
You can see it different, so your wedding can be different. I hope to marry my girlfriend and for us, our wedding will be a big party with all of the people that love us in one place. Celebrating our lives starting together. It's a big party. A lot of marriage's significance is redundant or archaic now. It's not for political alliance, women can work so don't need a provider, you can have kids or buy a house together without marrying, not many wait for marriage for sex or are even religious, so yeah, it's a big party

I watched a 7-8 year girl have a shrieking fit at the beach this week. Her parents did nothing. This is why people want child free weddings. Have you been out in public? Parents don't parent anymore.

What a great idea!

Wedding yeah..my bad

"Children can stay at home/don't need to be there anyway" - Not everyone can afford or wants to get a babysitter. Not everyone needs to attend 🤷
by danialrohan1 day ago
I believe you're talking about weddings, not "marriages".
by Mazie161 day ago
Yeah... Okay. People could always do that. Hell my parents did that on a couple of occasions (going to a wedding with us). That is different than "Don't bring your kids" though.
by Anonymous1 day ago
I don't like children, I don't plan on having children, none of my friends currently have children. If I don't like kids they would not fit the vibe of my wedding. Also would require keeping everything PG the the same of other people kids. If I don't want to have a family friendly wedding I don't have to. I'm not going to make sure my playlist doesn't have curses. Im not going to restrict drinking or smoking to certain times and areas because other people want there kids to come to my wedding.

You seem like a wonderful person lmao

That "weird way of thinking" from 30-40 years ago happened because we as a society decided "Yeah, this day SHOULD be all about the couple" and we haven't changed our minds about that (according to you) for past 4 decades. It's called progressing.

Literally most of the world still does it as it has always been done. Just because the US and a couple of other countries have decided to turn marriages into parties this doesn't make them better in any way. Or are you implying that every other culture is backwards?
by Anonymous1 day ago
Literally every single thing that is introduced in the US is eventually brought in the rest of the world through pop culture and the Internet. And yeah child free weddings have reached my country as well.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Which brings us back to my original counter argument.
by Effective-Ocelot1 day ago
Why do you think it'd an American thing?
by Junior681 day ago
Because the first time I have ever heard of this term was through American YouTube channels and TikTokers. I had genuinely never heard of this before.
by Anonymous1 day ago
That doesn't make it an American thing. Many many places have weddings as a party. It's about the couple and they can do what they want.
by Junior681 day ago
Brides in weddings with children don't get to enjoy themselves? Children being present somewhere on the venue prevent the bride from drinking? Eh? Dealing with other people's kids? You mean maybe having to interact with a child at some point during the whole night? "Against your will???"
by Anonymous1 day ago
Anyone can have a child-free wedding, but I can also decline the invitation. I think they're weird if you have a lot of people in the family with little kids because you're putting them in a tough spot (most of the people who would watch the kids will be at the wedding), but it is their prerogative.
by Defiant_Ferret87981 day ago
Yeah I guess that is a sensible answer and one most couples would accept. I can't bring my child then I am not coming...
by Anonymous1 day ago
See that just makes you entitled.
by Junior681 day ago
Agreed. It's just like really seriously dating. Like super dating.
