This is by no means an unpopular opinion and is the widely regarded take by most people. When it comes down to it, some parents just find it easier to give their child a device over actually taking the arduous time of proper parenting

Ridiculously wrong. Most parents give their kids devices if they can afford them. Ask anyone who works with kids about what percentage of kids have regular access to devices.

As an educator of small children, you'd be shocked at how many of the parents who give their children tablets are against the practice. The truth is, most recognize that ideally their kids shouldn't have an iPad, just like they recognize that ideally their kids shouldn't have candy and juice. The fact is that the average parent at least where I live (major us city) is just barely holding everything together. Grownups are working too many hours and are busy with housework and stressed when they're home. On average, their homes are too small for the kids to really have space to play or for them to store toys. An iPad keeps the kids occupied while you cook dinner and you won't need to clean up when the kid's done with it. So many of them wish they had better options. They just don't.

I've noticed a lot of children (roughly 7 to 11) have phones or tablets now, compared to when I was a kid. Of course children have more access to phones and tablets than you as a kid . I'm going to assume your at least over the age of 20 smartphones and tablet where not really a thing. My mum essentially did the same thing 20-25 years ago but the only fun thing to do was play snake and that's about it. Now is it good for children to be in front of a tablet or phone for a long time probaly not.
