In the UK radio stations play music known to be calming to animals on Bonfire Night (5th November).

by elisabeth18 1 day ago

I laugh cause I'm reading this right as we are about to go outside, bbq, and have fun shooting off fireworks.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Have fun but remember it is not without cost to OTHERS!!!!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They can put earplugs in. This and NYE are the TWO days a year the vast majority of people will do this. I think if 2 days a year people who take this much inconvenience to it have to deal with. They can simply build a bridge and get over it.

by webermariela 1 day ago

Great day to not be in the usa eh

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yea well it's even worse for people like me with babies/toddlers trying to sleep. I HATE this day too. I used to love it. But every year it terrorizes me and my now 2.5 yr old :(…and it's not one night it's like a whole week of sleepless nights 😭

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This reads like the opening to "How the Grinch Stole Independence Day."

by Upper-Cantaloupe-316 1 day ago

Honestly, the neighbors deal with hearing your dogs bark, etc, all year. A single night or even a week does seem fair. That said, as a vet, I LOVE fireworks and look forward to this time of year. I spend a bit of money and put on a decent show. I have the neighbors over and a big BBQ, and they love it

by Anonymous 1 day ago

My next door neighbor shoots off illegal fireworks that shake my windows and scare my animals. And they do it for the entire week. Last year, the debris covered my yard. I'm all for celebrating, and will be watching some official ones tonight, but when your "decent show" imposes on me, you can kick rocks.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They will be going on all night here. Way past our 10pm noise ordinance. Has happened the last 5 years I've lived here.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Its 4th of July. I'd say its the one exception to the rule as long as its only due to the 4th of July

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

They started Monday and will be going all next week. Kick rocks.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

I can see how that can be annoying, and that's out of hand. Almost as much as being rude/insulting to a complete stranger on the internet, but have a great night anyway.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

You can complain absolutely. But its the US and fireworks on the 4th of July are like hotdogs and buns.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Hot take but dog barking is super easy to ignore. Fireworks are so loud that I can't ignore them. Literally sounds about as loud as a gunshot. A dog barking is about as annoying as your neighbor mowing the lawn or having a conversation outdoors.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Yeah, I'm sure my dog barking now and then is so jarring to the whole neighborhood <eyeroll>

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

If your neighbor isn't a pet person, it actually could be as jarring, and for them its a year-round occurrence instead of only a few hrs or days. Regardless, happy independence day. Hope you have a good night

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

And I deal with their 4 yapping kids. That are way louder than my 1 small dog. You don't even think about all the birds that die on this day.

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

I'm a combat vet and so is my neighbor and we just talked about how much we hate fireworks.

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

I'm not a fan, either. I live in a city, and the people around here think setting off fireworks in a densely populated area is a great idea. It's not.

by True_Assist8888 22 hours ago

So what did you do today to celebrate 4th?

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

Bitch and moan.

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

I don't celebrate this day of domestic terrorism

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

I always say anyone that hates fireworks if you can afford it check into a hotel for the weekend. That's what I do because although I personally love the fireworks my neighbors think it's cool to do until 2am and I shouldn't have to stay up that late if I don't want to. So I have my fun, and then hotel it is. Especially this year when the holiday lasts the whole weekend.

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

I am lucky if I can afford my rent !

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

The celebrations are devastating to me, but that doesn't make the world revolve around people like us. A lot of people go overboard, and I take issue with the people who extend the celebrations well before and after the holiday. But one day - and especially one night - is fine. We can plan around it. \ \ I do see the irony in using fireworks for celebrations of the military, and think it's not ideal. But not all fireworks are for that.\ \ Signed, someone with autism who finds the noise from fireworks to be hell.

Bro hates fun💀

by casimir19 20 hours ago

The only good argument I have seen is for ppl with ptsd, but I just love everything about 4th of July.

by geoffreyritchie 19 hours ago

Rules laws environment blah blah blah you sound a lil boring to meeeee🥱🥱🥱have a little fun sometimes

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

The rules that exist to prevent fires caused by people who think its smart to set off fireworks in their backyard in a residential area with lots of other (flammable) houses around? Yup, I'm strongly in favour of those laws, like I'm in favour of laws against murder, assault, etc. Sorry if you can only have fun by causing danger or actual harm to others, but if that's the case maybe you shouldn't have fun.

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

I mean yeah it's bad that the houses can catch fire and stuff but worrying about the bylaws and the permits is taking up a lot of mental space, just let the people have fun on this holiday with their families and maybe join them if you want

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

real

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

I just hate celebrating an evil settler colony

by StillValue2599 18 hours ago

Leave then. You don't belong here. This country is not evil.

by Anonymous 18 hours ago

It's the day for america! We light fireworks for america!

by Anonymous 18 hours ago

Nobody cares about your animals.

by Mundane-Square-161 17 hours ago

What do you mean? Didnt anybody tell you?… This is clearly OP's world, and people like you and me, are just living in it😂

by Obvious-Mud-271 17 hours ago

Oh yeah, I forgot lol. We should seriously just cancel 4th of July cause this lady's animals get scared 🤣

by Mundane-Square-161 17 hours ago

The only good argument I hear are people with ptsd. It's a nice tradition to celebrate our country every year and have fun with fireworks. This is really only twice a year. The summer is already boring enough with barely any holidays, this is a nice mid summer thing to celebrate if you live in the US.

by Upbeat_Hat 16 hours ago

Even the PTSD argument is not perfect. I have buddies I served with that are diagnosed with PTSD that still love firing off fireworks and drinking beer. Some of them would never go to a gun range because the sounds play on those fears. But they are grown up enough to know the difference between a firework and a gun. So PTSD is sometimes an excuse people try to make against fireworks to make their claims hold more Weight... I'm sure there are a few out there that it affects, but not everyone

by Anonymous 16 hours ago

That's why they're drinking the beer

by Anonymous 16 hours ago

You have no idea how ptsd works. It has nothing to do with how "grown" you are or ability to distinguish sounds. It seems like your friends have ptsd that isn't triggered by loud, sudden noises or at least not to a degree that is debilitating. And no one thinks it affects every veteran, but when a holiday celebrating what veterans fought for, it seems incredibly selfish and inconsiderate to say, "nah, f you, as long as I get to have fun."

by Beattychristop 16 hours ago

Am I? My opinion isn't popular?

by Anonymous 15 hours ago

You get 364 days without fireworks, maybe give us the one, eh?

by fernandopacocha 15 hours ago

It's never just one day in my neighborhood.

by Anonymous 15 hours ago

It never just one day.

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

Lol what makes me so ignorant?

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

$10 says OP owns a pitbull

by okonfelipa 14 hours ago

Maybe you're just a lame nerd

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

That last line just sounds like "oh what else can I whinge about"

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

Everyone loves higgs day!

by ThisTrain 13 hours ago

Lol cope

by nico39 13 hours ago

I'm pretty sure most people know what it means. Most people, myself included, don't care about the meaning at all and enjoy spending time with family and friends and BBQ and fireworks.

by deckowchanelle 13 hours ago

Bbq and fireworks are great and its a midsummer celebration. But you could get out of town you know. Somewhere with no fireworks… its totally possible. Its also unreasonable to think people shouldn't celebrate because of your issues

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

Tell that to my dog who's shaking under my feet. My cat who's flipping out because of the noise, knocking things off tables!

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

My cat gets scared too but 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️the animals can't be comfortable all the time, fear is a natural feeling and it shall pass. Enjoy the moment, besides you probably don't hate fireworks you just hate the effects it has on your pets
