+49 Streaming sucks and watching movies on DVD is a MUCH better experience, amirite?

by Anonymous 9 hours ago

If you are talking about the experience of finding the movie on a streaming platform then you need to compare that to finding and purchasing the dvd, unless it's something you already own. I'm old enough to remember going to different stores looking for a specific dvd. I'm also not even sure I own something to play dvds, I don't have a computer with a disc drive even.

by Anonymous 9 hours ago

God forbid you live in a house of disorganization where people put the discs back in the wrong case, leaving a twisted trail of breadcrumbs for you to follow to make everything right again.

Preach!

by Anonymous 9 hours ago

And looking for the right one in the video store was often one of the best parts, even though it sometimes was a lengthier experience than the movie that you were definitely going to return late.

by leilaryan 8 hours ago

Ok and when you went there and someone already took the movie you wanted? Or you had to plan part of your day as going to the store rather than sitting on the sofa and realising you've got time for a movie so I'll just watch something for a catalogue of 1000s instantly available

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

I think that's something you romanticise. Sometimes it was just a pain in the arse. I can remember a lot of family arguments in there too

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

I haven't streamed a movie for $3.99 in years. They start at $16 now. Recently tried to watch one that was $30. To rent!

by Big_Quantity 7 hours ago

These were decades old movies. The kind that used to be cheap or free. Now they're impossible to find and expensive.

by Big_Quantity 7 hours ago

I mean I just proved they're not "impossible" to find haha

by genevieve56 6 hours ago

That sounds like you're buying the movie, not renting

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

Nope. That was to rent. Although increasingly, buying is the only option.

by Big_Quantity 6 hours ago

Those are either movies in theaters (that you cant get on DVD) or you are buying the movies. Literally every movie not in theaters is no more than 399 to stream.

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

I don't want to burst your bubble, but there are many older movies that are a lot more, and it's frustrating. Yes, I agree that most movies are around the 3.99 mark give or take a couple bucks, but I was looking for something the other night and it was 17.99 to rent and like 24.99 to buy. I wish I could remember the title off hand, but if I do I'll link it.

ok boomer, i'm a physical media guy too but even this is a major league stretch

by Primary_Extension810 5 hours ago

I'm big on physical media as well and would much rather stream than watch a damn DVD. Blu-ray is the bare minimum.

by AnimalNo 5 hours ago

Yeah DVDs look bad. Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray all the way!

by Infamous_Storm7611 5 hours ago

It's not just choosing streaming or physical media. I am just so tired of all this digitisation of everything. Of course some of it is good and much more convenient for us but I miss just going analog sometimes. Like physically holding stuff and having a tactile experience. To look at a stack of books on a shelf instead of a tablet. Holding a paint brush or a pencil on canvas or paper. Or holding a vinyl record and playing it on a record player. IDK, maybe it's just me.

by vkilback 5 hours ago

I agree to a point I'm an avid reader and the last time I moved half the weight was books I decided unless I somehow get super rich like afford a library and a butler rich digital books are the way to go.

by Mundane_Structure941 4 hours ago

Most of those experiences are still possible, though. You can still buy vinyls for most popular albums, use a paintbrush, and buy DVDs of most major releases. They are just less popular, and so likely more expensive. Its not some grand conspiracy.

by tomasamills 4 hours ago

Definitely not thinking of it as any type of conspiracy. I'm just finding that I am liking old tech more and more for various things. The analog experience is calming for me. Not to diss or cut out all things digital

by vkilback 4 hours ago

Yeah, it might just be you lol.

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

Quality aside, then I'll go with VHS, I might've been young back then, but popping in Predator on VHS was a bit more/leaves a lasting entertainment that streaming Inside Out 2

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

The high seas are calling your name.

by Normal_Cabinet9639 3 hours ago

Yar, if ye be looking fer a piece o' media. I be betting ye can find it on the high seas. There even be a Bay for brigands where they freely share their bounty.

by nealkilback 3 hours ago

Stressful? How mentally underdeveloped are you? Also I doubt you have actually used a dvd recently, their video quality sucks, it's no comparison

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

You're calling OP stupid for fairly preferring discs over streaming 🤦 please touch some grass

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

I mean he is right, how can picking a movie be stressful lol

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Easily, it is a stress I live with everyday

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

What an easy life if that's what stresses you out

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

Ah yes, what an easy life I must have for having stresses outside of the bigger issues. Have a good life dude

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

Why is OP so weird about this? 😂 money management is stressful. Not picking which episode of The Office I'm watching tonight.

by Superb_Cow 2 hours ago

Nah. You're putting words in his mouth. It's overreactive to call it "stressful".

by Superb_Cow 2 hours ago

I get stressed about having to find a movie to pick, it's not "overreactive" for someone to be stressed about the ins and outs of a streaming service

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

Must be a pretty chill life if there's only stress in choosing entertainment. Happy Saturday!

by Superb_Cow 1 hour ago

I'm not calling him stupid. I'm saying that it's ridiculous to think that picking a movie on streaming is "stressful", and only someone with some kind of mental issue (anxiety, autism, Depression) would think that. But I am saying that anyone that lacks basic reading comprehension skills ARE stupid

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

There are much better ways to show you feel that way. That is, if it's an actual valid point. Otherwise, might be hard to do so.

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

Never heard of decision fatigue, right?

by jaclynrice 1 hour ago

That's not on the list of reasons they stated. Also fatigue is not the same as stress

by Anonymous 52 minutes ago

Maybe OP is stressed because they're overwhelmed with all the movies there are to choose from. And I could understand, too much choice can lead to not watch a movie because you already have invested an hour in searching for the right thing to watch.

by jaclynrice 35 minutes ago

They should have said that then

by Anonymous 26 minutes ago

If I tell you that I'm having a bad day, but don't actually tell you what was bad about it, do you assume that I didn't really have a bad day?
