+56 Matthew Perry, and others who OD, are the ones responsible for their own demise, not the drug dealers, amirite?

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

Exactly this. People have personal responsiblity, yes, and I feel people absolutely need to take more of it, BUT, that doesn't mean that just because personal responsiblity exists, OTHERS don't have at the very least *some* blame in things.

Doctors aren't handing out cancer like candy and getting people hooked on it.

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

I get it but I feel like this argument implies drug dealers only carry responsibility when the addict got hooked by a doctor which gets away from the main point that responsibility can be shared

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

You're right. They did it with opioids.

What? How does this make sense

by FullConversation9800 7 hours ago

dealer just making money. same as mcdonalds "causing" diabtes. its on u

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

Cash rules everything around me

Where do you get the idea that drug dealers aren't targeted? That's half the reason we have the highest incarceration rate in the world. Also people hold doctors to a higher standard than your average drug dealer.

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

From my past experience as a drug user and having known people who OD'ed.

Fun Fact: Joe Shmoe's dealer is also breaking the law and will probably face a more severe penalty because they're not rich with fancy lawyers like celebrities' dealers.

When I saw that interview where he said he use to go to home viewings for older people just so he could raid their medicine cabinets for drugs and people basically let him or didn't suspect him because he was "Matthew Perry"… That's when I lost respect for him…

by shawn88 5 hours ago

I lost respect for him when he said he "never ever used opiates while on set filming Friends." Really? Because he said he was up to 55 vicodin a day in his book. They would film 16 hours a day a lot of the time. I HATE liars and gaslighters. It doesn't work like that dude, we aren't stupid.

Or, like myself, don't go buy drugs

Please never use an analogy ever again.

I mean. My aunt and her partner passed from OD. my aunty was sick ans was self medicating on such drugs, but the drugs were wrong and they did kill my aunt and uncle. I get upset because she was trying to cope with her illness so she is to blame but giving her a bad batch is still on the dealer . Its not a black and white answer.

by Marleequigley 4 hours ago

As long as the drugs are not adulterated or otherwise at an unexpected potency, this is true.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Dealers don't (often) make people take drugs, but they're still responsible for what they sell. If you were served a cocktail with methanol and died, people wouldn't say "you can't blame the bartender when he chose to drink". Its the same when people sell fake pills that cause people to OD on drugs they don't even know they've taken. Similarly, if a dealer influences someone to leave rehab and then they OD on the drugs they sold them I think they should be held somewhat responsible. Not the same level as selling counterfeit products, but they should definitely go to jail for it.

I'm a probation officer and addicts are some of the most selfish people you can ever meet. Yes there is a biological component for sure and they need help but they make conscious decisions daily to use. Help is offered over and over and they say no. That's why I have no love lost for people who camp sidewalks using drugs instead of being clean and get housing in treatment. They are making a choice every day to use and not follow the rules.

by Expert-Appearance837 3 hours ago

It could be argued that those around him had a duty of care, given his predisposition to heavily consume drugs. Totally his fault for getting to that state in the first place, but his close circle are at least partially responsible for what transpired

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

theres no way ur brain works this way. do u think their is a sign that says "beware of GHB" like cmon victim blaming is crazy

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

OP is right. There's a reason liquor store owners aren't arrested when someone dies of cirrhosis or in a drunk diving accident. The government bans the sale of all drugs which forces users to go to a black market where the drug quality and customer service is far lower.

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

Drug dealers take advantage of sick people. Scum.

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

I mean if the drug dealers are giving people drugs that they know are addicted it kinda is their fault too

by Tricky_Grand7732 1 hour ago

True OD, yes I agree The grey area is when someone aids in something like cocaine and then you find out a bunch of weird stuff was mixed in with it

by Jay94 1 hour ago

It depends on the situation: if someone sold somebody cocaine with fentanyl in it and they die of an overdose as a result: that's on the dealer the same way if a cook contaminates food by not washing their hands and someone gets sick as a result.

Yes and no. Matthew Perry is responsible for his own decisions, but that doesn't excuse the person who gave him the illegal drug. OD'ing from prescribed meds given by a legitimate doctor is one thing, but illegal drugs is another.

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

THIS and same for folks who switch from prescribed pain meds to heroin rather than working with their physician. so many excuses. I've been in recovery. it takes hard work. you need to be accountable for yourself & your decisions. making excuses does not help.

People should simply not be pos junkies

by Anonymous 47 minutes ago

Its unbelievably simple. If you get sold one thing and it's something else then they should be held responsible.

by Kattie94 27 minutes ago

Mathew Perry will always be remembered as the guy who snitched even in death.

If there are bear traps everywhere, some people will get badly hurt. Now maybe most sensible and smart people can easily avoid them if they pay attention, but are we really happy with a world where some people are at horrible risk for no reason? Some people are born blind and just have to do their best until a trap eventually - inevitably - gets them
