+32 Move over laws and moving over in general for police is dumb, amirite?

Think this is mostly a driver problem, and maybe slightly caused by inconsistency from state to state. Many states (I don't know all of them) basically say to reduce speed or get over if it's safe. I'm sure there are some that the law is you must get over, and then it becomes easier to just do that every time than try to know the local laws. But then you have big ass trucks who will cut you off going 15 mph slower than you because there's a police officer or broken down vehicle and they definitely cause more risk than they prevent doing that.

I remember it near me being worded "if safe to do so". Driver is supposed to use judgement based upon surrounding traffic. You can't always get over but it's worth the effort, and slowing down even slightly will help everyone involved. I witnessed an accident once where a State Trooper was rear ended while working the shoulder, and watched him die in the fire after being trapped in his cruiser. It's written law for a reason.

There's another like this that I saw where they weren't as lucky. A AAA worker was helping someone and as they go back to their car they get slammed by another driver and died. Some people are just reckless and don't care about whether they hit someone or not.

In my state, it applies to tow trucks and disabled vehicles as well. This is because thousands of people are killed being struck by a vehicle passing in the right lane. Moving over if it's safe to do so makes everyone safer. Even if you can't move over, you will be more aware of what's going on. If there's no law telling you to watch out for them, you're more likely to tune it out and, therefore, more likely to hit someone pulled over

As a socal driver, we ignore it regardless

You mean as a bad driver. Bad drivers disregard the safety of themselves and others, like you

by estel06 1 week ago

No, I mean as the most superior drivers in the US.

It saves lives therefore it's not stupid. People are stupid. Well it's a good thing you don't write laws.

Whose lives?

"Whose lives" Says the reckless socal driver. I dont think your opinion holds much weight to anybody fella.

You avoid being in danger by being aware of your surroundings. If you don't see the flashing red and blue lights then you probably shouldn't be behind the wheel. Also you're meant to move over if it's safe to do so. If you literally cant move over then you could at the very least slow down a bit, pay very close attention, be very cautious, and stay close to the yellow line to give them room. You also aren't just moving over for cops, but for other drivers as well, to which they should have their hazard lights on.

I just learned in Texas they have "peace officers" who legally are allowed to use deadly force.

wtf… peace officer my ass

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Totally agree and in Socal it's completely ignored

by kohlerelyse 1 week ago

Why should that be my concern?

by kohlerelyse 1 week ago

At minimum, you should be concerned because hitting a cop with your vehicle will probably ruin your life (as well as theirs). Moving over is the easiest way to ensure that you don't hit them. Police also respond to breakdowns and accidents. Have you ever changed a tire on a busy freeway?

Because evaders drive very recklessly and can kill you in the process
