+39 "Thanks" in a reply-all email is not polite — it's annoying. amirite?

In what world is this an unpopular opinion? Just because people do something stupid out of lazyness/ignorance does not make it "popular"...

Only reason I'll do it is if it's a small group and I want to confirm receipt.

Agreed. Anything longer than Thx is not needed.

Or people replying all to say they got the email. We all got the email. That's how distribution lists work.

What's worse is if you're on CC and not even contributing to the back and forth, just reading it, then once the matter is resolved, one person replies thanks. They could have hit reply instead of reply all. To go even further, after that one person replies all with thanks, the other person comes back with "you're welcome!" 😫😫😫 No. Just no.

The thanks does close the loop though. It signals to all copied that the situation is resolved, similar to closing a ticket.
