You are comparing book Dumbledore to movie Gandalf — that's not fair because in the books there is way more room for character development. Also, Gandalf is not a god; he is a Maia, which is something similar to an angel in the Christian tradition. He has existed since the creation of the world and was sent to Middle Earth incarnated as an old man, to help and guide the people in the fight against Sauron.

Yeah. You have to read what you can to get the full scope. Gandalf is an immortal being, not enough time to "develope" character when you've been around for 10,000 years. Read my guy
