If you're ever stuck under rubble I bet your mind will change when the police dog finds you and alerts emergency personnel

by Character_Army 6 hours ago

OP is not saying anything against rescue dogs.

by PresentationTime 6 hours ago

"Animals don't belong in law enforcement" some police departments (law enforcement) train dogs (animals) for search and rescue. They're also used to find dead bodies, some of those dead bodies have been murdered.

by Character_Army 6 hours ago

Search and rescue dogs aren't limited to law enforcement agencies so I assumed I didn't need to explain that.

by Beginning-Tiger-751 6 hours ago

How are animals being used as law enforcement as search animals different than drug sniffing animals. One finds murdered and lost bodies, one finds drugs is the only difference. This isn't rocket science.

You've never met a military or police dog I guess, working dogs absolutely love to work. They live for it. I've met a few law enforcement dogs and their trainers because I needed to learn from them, those dogs love their life. I know this first hand because my Rottweiler cross Malinois needs to be very extensively trained and working on something all day every day and if I take a day off from giving him this stimulation he goes nuts. Even when I need to sit at my desk to work I have to keep him entrained by showing him an object, asking him to leave the room, hiding the object then getting him to find it. Just anything to keep him doing something.

you do know ‘working dog' can mean something as simple as finding a toy their owner hides right? it doesn't need to be putting the dog in unpredictable and dangerous situations.

You ever drove your dog to the vet?

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

They sure do love being stabbed and shot to death, mauling people. I'm sure.

You're right, dogs do love to work. I didn't say they didn't. But when 12 percent of fatal encounters with law enforcement involve dogs, that's a problem. And it's a bigger problem when they refuse to let go. It happens all the time. And when you're doing bite work, the training has to be perfect. You cannot screw it up. Ever.

by Beginning-Tiger-751 4 hours ago

Is that because of the dog? Or is that because fatal encounters usually escalate and involve a lot of resources? You could argue almost all fatal encounters involve CPR attempts and so CPR is responsible for fatalities

by Boscorebekah 3 hours ago

No, police dogs do kill people. That's a weird comparison.

by Beginning-Tiger-751 3 hours ago

They don't set attack dogs on innocent people listening to police officers. That is a last resort for violent criminals.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Yes definitely a problem. Attacking law enforcement is a crime. You don't know anything about it you just use assumptions. Now go do something worthwhile instead of spewing unfounded statements.

This is a dumb argument. 'I can hijacks my dogs naivety to make it profundly enjoy engaging in activities that measurably harm the community and put their own lives in danger, so that makes it okay" There's a thousand other lives you can give a dog that are rewarding and engaging. You don't actually have to make them hurt or kill, or be killed.

Horses are used because they are convenient way to do violence against protesters.

by Unusual_Conflict 2 hours ago

Lmfao yeah the the only reason why Not because they navigate crowds safer than using a motor vehicle or bicycle Me personally if I wanted to mow down protesters I'd have a police elephant

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

I'd use a resistance mouse to counter it

by PresentationTime 1 hour ago

I'd have feral cat agents in the streets taking care of those silently Don't mess with my oppressive force of working animals

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

My feral cats would be the ones training the mice against oppression, under threat of being violently played with, and, for treason, eaten.

by PresentationTime 1 hour ago

Yea my friend was also assaulted two years back.

by Unusual_Conflict 1 hour ago

??wtf??

by Unusual_Conflict 55 minutes ago

even if its all true, that isnt enough justification to remove them. remove the handlers, instead. not the animals.

by BookRevolutionary645 30 minutes ago

Idk how unpopular this is, definitely isn't in my circles. A lot of police dogs are abused.

by Anonymous 16 minutes ago

Huh. Must places I see them praised after they retire or it's used to show off.
