+17 Midfielders in football do with their feet what QuarterBacks are praised for doing with their hands, amirite?

This isn't unpopular, it's just not accurate.

Quarterbacks aren't praised because of how difficult it is to throw an accurate pass, they're praised for how difficult it is to play quarterback mentally. The responsibility for the whole offense is on them, they're in charge of everything. They call the plays, read defenses, and have to make split second decisions every single play. They have to diagnose what's going on in like 2 seconds and throw the ball to the right guy every play. Another big difference is that if a midfielder turns the ball over, it's no big deal, play on, it happens all the time. If a quarterback turns the ball over, it's a huge deal that can swing the whole game. Plus, you can kind of hide and not even touch the ball that often as a midfielder, you have to touch the ball every single play as a quarterback, there's no relying on teammates

Turnovers are very much a big deal in soccer. Not as much as American Football, but still, a lot more. You also can't really hide in the middle of midfield. Not even at an amateur level.

Of course a turnover can be a big deal in soccer and can directly lead to a goal, but it usually isn't. Possession changes sides constantly throughout the game, half the time if you lose the ball, you'll get it back in 10 seconds. A turnover in football is always a huge deal. And you can't hide all together, but you can definitely go whole stretches of a game where you barely touch the ball in a meaningful way. You touch the ball literally every play as a quarterback.

Except when you have to rely on them to carry out the rest of the play you've decided to go for.

Well yeah but step #1 of any passing play (or 2 if you want to be pedantic) begins with the QB

by conroydeven 1 hour ago

But you're still relying on teammates to catch the ball and carry out the rest of the play. To claim that the QB doesn't rely on their teammates is wild.

I meant they aren't completely relying on teammates, quarterbacks have a part in every play. There are no plays like in soccer when a goal can happen that had absolutely nothing to do with you.

Obviously, I'm just saying there are no plays that completely happen without you like in soccer. Even if it's a running play, the quarterback still called the play, adjusted at the line of scrimmage, snapped the ball and handed it off. In soccer, you can be a midfielder who barely touched the ball the whole game and still rely on your teammates and win the game.

Again, obviously. But you made the point in your last paragraph. A qb has a more important role than any individual player on a soccer team. That's why they get the most praise of any position in any team sport. That's all, nobody said they're playing the game by themselves, we were saying a qb is directly involved in every play, which isn't the case in the same way in soccer.

They're different sports...

There is way more to it than just throwing the ball accurately. American football QBs are praised because there is a lot of decision making and leadership that is expected in that position. Many of them call their own plays, and all of them are expected to make on the fly adjustments after the play has been called if they read the defense and realize the play isn't going to work. The athleticism is only half of it. Having the presence of mind to do all of that other stuff under pressure is what makes really really good QBs so rare. Also look up what an NFL playbook actually looks like. The things are the size of an dictionary.
