+19 Not everyone needs to turn their home into a "smart home," and some of it just makes life more annoying, amirite?

I'm not sure if this opinion is even unpopular. It shouldn't be. Things work better and more reliably for longer when you keep them simple.

Exactly, my hentai pillows don't need automation or WiFi built in.

If your pillow jerked you off, you would be singing a different tune

If it did that, I definitely don't want it to have WiFi

or connecting to my neighbors BluTooth

Also a regular light switch can't be exploited by hackers, smart lights 100% can according to security folks

by Ziemeferne 1 hour ago

Sure, they can, but is the average person really going to experience a network attack through their light switches? (And what would that attack even get a hacker?) Reliability matters for sure, and not all smart upgrades are actually smart. IMO, a single smart light or smart switch is pretty mediocre. Setting up your entire property on smart switches so you can do things like turn off all the lights with a single command without wandering your house checking if someone forgot a light on? Definitely practical and useful. OP's opinion shouldn't be unpopular. Not everyone needs smart everything. Smart fridges aren't for me, but I'm certain there's someone who finds life a lot easier because of them. It depends more on the user and how they plan to use it.

I never said people shouldn't use smart appliances, I just mentioned one benefit of traditional appliances. There are for sure trade offs which may be worthwhile in many cases!

I don't think I know more than one person that's trying to do anything like this. Most of the people that had an Alexa or Google speaker have gotten rid of it.
