+29 Uncharted 4 is not a game, it is an interactive movie. amirite?

by Accomplished-Ask4622 5 hours ago

This "game" is 90% cutscene! How can anyone defend it as being a great game? This isn't true at all You want an honest argument when you're not even giving an honest assessment of the game

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

Yeah, this is just an outright lie. There a lot of cutscenes and a lot of the story is told through them. But that's a different point altogether

by Einar92 4 hours ago

Seriously lol there's lot of set pieces but at least 70% of that game is straight up gameplay and gunfights.

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

I mean, that was obviously hyperbole. Why nitpick the phrasing instead of engaging with the point being contended—namely, that there are too many cut scenes compared to gameplay? (To be clear, I haven't played the game and don't have a horse in this race either way.)

by Chance-Fish 4 hours ago

It's not hyperbole because later he says this game is objectively 90% movie There's also reasons why to nitpick 1.) All his counter arguments hinge on this being a fact, which it isn't 2.) If we're being honest uncharted has 3 hours of cut scenes out of 15 hours of gameplay, HARDLY too many cutscenes by most metrics and there are games like Metal Gear Solid 4 that are way worse or genres like point and click adventures or visual novels which are even less of a game but still are considered games

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

well a large portion of the gameplay is so on rails it might as well be a movie that you have to hold down a button to keep going.

The meat-and-potatoes gameplay of Uncharted isn't much different than Resident Evil 4 or Gears of War (cover shooter with intermittent puzzles) so are those also "not games?"

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Uncharted takes you out of the cover shooter gameplay quite a lot, The amount of times Uncharted suddenly takes control away from you and throws you into a cutscene or QTE is annoying AF. And the basic cover shooting gameplay usually has less depth than those other games as well. Not that I am much of a fan of those games either.

by Striking_Gur 3 hours ago

Resident Evil 4 also throws you into QTEs

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Not very much.

by Parking_Flower1434 3 hours ago

Maybe. I'm not an RE fan so I can't compare without playing.

by Striking_Gur 2 hours ago

Haven't played the game, still ready to argue in favor of someone else's lie.

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

They nitpick because A) the real figure is like 50-70% so theres a real chance they didnt think it was hyperbole and B) they have no argument cus OP is right, so they nitpick instead of trying to argue against the point being made

3 hours of cut scenes in total for Uncharted 4 and 15 hours of gameplay . 1/5 of the game. Try again .

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

Add in 4-5 hours of dialog and qtes and on rail sections no, its not a fifth. Try again.

Wait til you see Metal Gear Solid 4 (or any MGS game) End cutscene in MGS 4 is basically feature-length

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

MGS4 has a cutscene of 71 minutes. That's crazy.

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

Right? Like, it would've been a better candidate for an "interactive movie".

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

71 min! Great scene though but damn!

by porter26 59 minutes ago

That was basically the entire reason the whole uncharted series was made and what made it appealing to people at the time. Especially at that point (2007 I believe was when the first one came out), video games were known to have poor stories or good stories that were presented poorly. So to have a video game you can interact with that had a decent story that was up to movie standards was eye catching at the time.

by Anonymous 58 minutes ago

OP isn't even being honest, the cutscenes are barely 30% of the game. It's no more cutscene than a standard Call of Duty or Far Cry or any other mid 2010s AAA game So tf you mean "that's basically the reason they were made"? It's just a standard formula, there's literally nothing unique about Uncharted's gameplay : cutscene ratio

by Typical-Clothes835 46 minutes ago

Exactly. I can kind of get where OP's coming from if they named a Quantic Dream game, but Naughty Dog games really aren't more cutscene-heavy than most AAA titles. Pretty sure games like RDR2 has a much higher cutscene to gameplay ratio for a non-completionist playthrough.

Does anyone else remember the first commercial for Uncharted Drakes Fortune? The guy was complaining that his girlfriend has been sitting next to him thinking that the video game he is playing is actually a movie. Then when the girl sits down on the couch, she is attractive. So it cuts to the guy playing the Sony executive, he just goes "I don't see the problem".
