Aah, I swear, here in India it's attributed to Gandhi! I just checked it, some religious texts too quote it Thank you for pointing that out. Should I just remove that part?

The quote by Gates is actually echoed by other people, there was a German General (pre WW2) who said he appointed clever and lazy people to leadership positions for similar reasons, with clever hard-working people good for middle management (IIRC) and non-clever hard-working people being dangerous.
