-96 Cantaloupe is a disgrace to all fruit-kind. amirite?

by Illustrious_Time1885 1 week ago

sounds like you have never had a good cantaloupe.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Seriously, cantaloupe is divine. Honeydew on the other hand...

by Anonymous 1 week ago

sounds like you have never had a good honeydew.

by Cute-Salamander 1 week ago

I agree. For a long time I didn't like honeydew. Then, one day, I had good honeydew for the first time.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Honeydew is Devine. Watermelon on the other hand...

by Anonymous 1 week ago

sounds like you never had a good watermelon.

by LumpyPaint4959 1 week ago

sounds like you have never had a good watermelon.

by Cute-Salamander 1 week ago

I'm on this team. Watermelon is worst melon.

by EmergencyAwkward7854 1 week ago

Depends. Watermelon is super hit or miss. A good watermelon is absolutely incredible. A bad watermelon just gets tossed.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You've gotta knock on it and listen for that more "floor tom" sound Source: I worked at Whole Foods.

by EmergencyAwkward7854 1 week ago

Ooooh like watermelon salad? ;)

by BarberNo 1 week ago

Watermelon is amazing here in thailand

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Well now you've convinced me to make the trip just so I can be the American asshole back home that's like "I only eat Thai watermelon, what we have here is terrible."

by EmergencyAwkward7854 1 week ago

Costa Rica also had good watermelon. But you can find delicious melons at home. My grandmas and mom had amazing watermelon.

by Mellie69 1 week ago

It was great in China as well!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I've had a lot of honeydews. They're always too wet, and taste strange.

by Chemical-Idea-3795 1 week ago

I, typically not a honeydew fan, got a fresh fruit plate for breakfast at a hotel in Greece a few weeks ago. There was a large honeydew slice. I was not excited for it but all the fruit was so nice I said hey let's give it a try. If I could get honeydew like that at home it would be competing for my favorite fruit. Unlike any honeydew I'd ever tasted. Texturally and flavor wise just absolutely incredible. Sent down by the Greek Gods themselves. An absolutely divine experience

by buckridgealexza 1 week ago

Same. Yet I had a honeydew-type melon at a breakfast buffet in Guangzhou, China in 2002 that I still fantasize about.

by edmund77 1 week ago

OMG! a good Cantaloupe on a summer afternoon is better than sex.

by Oscar74 1 week ago

Sounds like you've never had good sex

by Rodrigueznella 1 week ago

I'd rather eat than have sex with 99% of people out there.

by gottliebqueen 1 week ago

Sounds like you haven't have sex with 99% of the people out there

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yes, but sex with that 1%...

by Chemical-Idea-3795 1 week ago

I'd get too tired after about .000000001%

by Former_Atmosphere 1 week ago

Why do I suspect 99% of the people out there agree?

by Rodrigueznella 1 week ago

Bojack concurs

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Honeydew on the other hand... Is divine as well.

by Repulsive_Cause 1 week ago

Fully agree

by Chemical-Idea-3795 1 week ago

In this case they sound very right though. Cantaloupe isn't yellow, and it is objectively not citrus, the OP's description sounds like they're eating terrible food and just need to go to . . . a grocery store . . .

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You're right. I haven't.

by Illustrious_Time1885 1 week ago

I'll ask you the same question I asked the last person who told me this: have you ever had cantaloupe not in a fruit salad you got in a breakfast plate or hotel buffet?

by ariannagutkowsk 1 week ago

I have, and my dislike of cantaloupe was unchanged.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

because you can't. because it's not a thing.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

no such thing as a "good" cantaloupe, mate.

by ebbagreen 1 week ago

A good piece of Cantelope wrapped in prosciutto with a glug of good olive will change your life.

by Unlikely_Slip_5313 1 week ago

More likely he just got done watching Green Eggs and Ham (2019).

by Beginning-Bar3181 1 week ago

With just a couple shakes of black pepper on it. My great grandmother used to do it, and I can't explain why it works, just that it does.

by Weak-Middle 1 week ago

Not necessarily. For me, it's that "melon" flavor that tastes particularly hideous. I don't like cantaloupe, watermelon, honeydew, etc. despite my family having a huge garden where I could get those things sun-ripened and fresh off the vine. There's just something about that melon taste that absolutely revolts me, kinda like those people that can't stand the taste of cilantro.

by jordy85 1 week ago

Hami melon is the best of all worlds for me. It has some of the same sweetness of cantaloupe, with a slightly floral aroma and very crisp texture more like an asian pear.

by Mellie69 1 week ago

This guy needs to eat a Rocky Ford cantaloupe ASAP

by Anonymous 1 week ago

But really hard to find actually ripe ones, I love them

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Cantaloupes are only good if you dump a ton of tajin or salt on it And they have a very terrible aftertaste that stays in your mouth for like 30 minutes "If you find the right cantaloupe it will taste exactly like watermelon" hell nah everytime i got forced to eat cantaloupe as a kid they always tasted gross af I ain't even picky i love every eating fruit and vegtable except cantaloupe Atleast Honeydew tastes good cantaloupes are nasty af

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Where are y'all buying these fruits man, the only fruit I've ever tasted that was consistently bad is apples

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I think you mean fresh. Chop a cantaloupe in half, spoon the seeds into the trash and enjoy. Bring a towel.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'm with OP. There's no such thing as good cantaloupe

by Schroederfoster 1 week ago

Most fruits are hit and miss. Cantaloupe definitely has one of the highest miss rates of all. I have had one cantaloupe—just one, and if memory serves it was picked from the garden that day—that I will never forget. Every part of it was perfect. I dream about replicating that experience. It was transcendent. But I have had innumerable cantaloupe that were more or less as OP described. I'm fairly sure all of the ones in-between, as in, good but nothing to write home about, I at least cut up myself—not in some fruit salad or fruit cup or salad bar etc.

by According_Range_9534 1 week ago

It's hit OR miss. Hit AND miss makes no sense. You don't take a shot and "hit and miss". You hit... or you miss.

by luettgenrocky 1 week ago

Bro Can't Elope 🤦🏽‍♂️

by johnniejohns 1 week ago

Actually my favorite fruit. At least when it's fresh.

by Pleasant_Time 1 week ago

You need to get one from a farmers market or roadside place. Ask whoever is selling them for one that is a little bit too ripe and leave it in the refrigerator overnight before you cut it up. I've literally never tasted a good cantaloupe from a store or fruit salad or even in a restaurant. They are only good when extremely ripe and coming out of the refrigerator. At which point they are amazing.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Love me some cantaloupe

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I mean, honeydew is right there.

by Jennyfertrantow 1 week ago

Honeydew is a lot better than cantaloupe, but it's still a poor man's watermelon.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You're not doing it right.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Is this....actually an unpopular opinion. Cantaloupes are one of the most under talked about fruits I feel and whenever I see them being brought up people seem to have mixed feelings about them xD

by Educational-List278 1 week ago

Yeah, today I'm learning there's a lot of wrong-ass melon-haters out there! 🤣

by Sad_Drop_3229 1 week ago

I'll say it does have a relatively small window but when it hits…dayum!!

by Astrid53 1 week ago

Cantaloupe is gross, even the ones my family swears are delicious. Was made to eat it growing up, haven't had any in 26 years and plan to keep it that way.

by kayjacobs 1 week ago

Sounds like someone who has only ever eaten overripe cantaloupe

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I like a properly ripened cantaloupe with a sprinkle of freshly cracked pepper!

by Weekly_Definition 1 week ago

Get out. Jk is it any good?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yes, try it!

by Weekly_Definition 1 week ago

Cracked pepper?? So sweet and…uh I guess tangy wouldn't be the word…. How did you come up with this?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

My grandpa showed me

by Weekly_Definition 1 week ago

I like cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto . Good cantaloupe is not soggy

by rickyzieme 1 week ago

I don't think it's really that unpopular. What would be unpopular is if you made the claim against watermelon. Then we'd have to fight lol

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Tasteless? Of all the ways to describe cantaloupe you went with tasteless?

by blanche56 1 week ago

Honeydew is far worse

by EvidenceStock 1 week ago

I'm going to guess that you've never grown any kind of food let alone fruit.

by Possible-Cycle-7673 1 week ago

Cantaloupe is only tasteless when it's underripe. Unfortunately, most stores only sell it that way because it's harvested too early for shipping. Buy it at a farmer's market of grow your own.

by rennerfreida 1 week ago

I second this. The absolute best canteloupe I've ever had were home grown. You don't pick them. You check them each day and when it detaches itself from the vine, it's ready to eat. Sweet, juicy, tender and perfect. The second best canteloupe was from a farmer's market.

by emeraldkeebler 1 week ago

Banana ruins fruit salad way more than cantaloupe does

by Myrl96 1 week ago

You're eating crappy cantaloupe. Yes, bad cantaloupe is just filling and watery. Good cantaloupe is sweet especially towards the center where the seeds are, and has a great taste. Same for honeydew melon. For me, watermelon is far worse. Often flavorless, just watery, and even when its good the flavor isn't nearly as pleasing as other melons. Meanwhile you've got a metric ton of seeds to contend with which ruins the whole thing. Its beyond a doubt the worst melon and probably the worst fruit.

by AdventurousSnow 1 week ago

Just swallow the watermelon seeds like an adult! I promise one won't start growing in your stomach.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

GET OUT OF HERE! Watermelon is god tier. So so good.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I actually agree with this, definitely had more tasteless watermelons than tasteless cantaloupes

by Jazmin19 1 week ago

I liked watermelon until I was about eight years old. That summer, I swear that is all my family fed me to snack on to the point I felt like they were shoving it down my throat at every possible turn. I got so sick of it that I have not liked it since, and I am now forty years old.

by Maybell90 1 week ago

Hard agree, every other melon is superior to watermelon

by Sad_Drop_3229 1 week ago

It's so stinky for being water. I can't stand watermelon.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I COMPLETELY AGREE

by Kennith55 1 week ago

I DON'T KNOW WHAT WERE YELLING ABOUT!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

HATING CANTALOUPE

by Kennith55 1 week ago

You need to find some better cantaloupe my guy. A decent cantaloupe has a sweet taste and is soft and smooth in texture. If unripe, it's hard and doesn't taste great. Maybe try buying a whole ripe one instead of the fruit salad cups which are terrible no matter what fruit you eat.

by Able-Voice 1 week ago

Cantaloupe smells terrible

by SignificantArea 1 week ago

Worst tasting/smelling fruit of all time!

by jcrist 1 week ago

I became allergic to cantaloupe somewhere along the way, and I really want to believe that this is true. Unfortunately, my recollection is that they are fairly delicious. Perhaps that memory will sour with time…

by Repulsive-Zebra978 1 week ago

A little dramatic, i suppose... but of all the melons, cantaloupe is the most mid.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You need some cantaloupe and honey dew melons from Japan.

by bhaag 1 week ago

Wrong again. Cantaloupe is awesome. For a few months out of the year (summer) when you can get nice ripe ones.

by Torpmarielle 1 week ago

I think it's one of those genetic things. Receptors and such. I hate it, or just find it very neutral at best, but I know people who love it… Like if you can smell your pee after you've eaten asparagus.

by RemarkableSlice 1 week ago

Or cilantro tasting soapy.

by Sure-Rich884 1 week ago

This feels like you're mostly eating the ones in the pre-sliced bowls. They always put the underripe ones in there. I'm not saying it's the best thing ever, but ripe one is not THAT bad.

by humbertoherman 1 week ago

okay bojack

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Please go sit in the corner and think about what you've done

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You must have messed up taste buds then.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Soggy? Few things compare to a fresh crispy cantaloupe omg I can feel the crunch right now!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You gotta pick a fragrant cantaloupe, and then let it ripen till there's at least one mushy spot on the outside. Then you will love cantaloupe.

by Various-Brother-8102 1 week ago

But when it meets proscuitto….

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Most melons have a weird texture that don't match the flavor no matter how juicy… Cantaloupe is trash

by miraclegraham 1 week ago

Cantaloupe is delicious But don't even get me started on Honeydew

by Anonymous 1 week ago

More like wontaloupe

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I feel like all the flavor has been bred out of them.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Papaya smells like old socks

by harbermadeline 1 week ago

I ALWAYS SAY THIS. Every fruit salad I see and partake in, guess what's left? The cantaloupe. No one wants it.

by FitPost1952 1 week ago

PREACH.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

What cantaloupe is soggy?? It's supposed to be firm.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Ripe cantaloupe is so delicious. Try it with some slices of prosciutto. It's perfect.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Cantaloupes are so gross.

by willardbechtela 1 week ago

This is definitely an unpopular opinion

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I HATE when people say "well you just haven't had a good (insert food)", because most times it's just a matter of preferences. HOWEVER, it genuinely sounds like you haven't had a sweet one. It should not be tasting like tap water.

by Gold-Plant 1 week ago

Could not have said it better myself.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No way man, a good cantaloupe hits the spot. I love the slight funk it has as well, which is weird I know. The absolute worst fruit on earth? That crown goes to starfruit. Utter flavorless garbage.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Followed only by Honeydew. 🤢

by ozemlak 1 week ago

Cantaloupe with vanilla ice cream is delicious

by Loose_Housing_6236 1 week ago

Prosciutto and cantaloupe is an amazing flavor combo.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Clearly you've never had honeydew melon. It's like someone filled a melon with sweet water, picked it before it was ripe, then placed some grass nearby. But, no, you're correct. Most cantaloupe bought in the U.S. is a complete waste of money. I'm not even sure squirrels would eat it.

by ZealousidealPoet8633 1 week ago

It's disgusting

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Most of what is sold as cantaloupe in the US isn't actually cantaloupe. It's a closely related, but not quite as tasty, melon called Musk Melon. Real cantaloupe has noticeable green "lines." I still like musk melon, but not as much as real cantaloupe.

by lorenkerluke 1 week ago

I think we are soulmates 🫶

by Equivalent_Focus 1 week ago

Tasteless?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I disagree, it's not flavorless, it actively tastes awful.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Honeydew is the one of the melons of all time

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I feel bad for people who've only eaten grocery store fruit. Heirloom melons are such a treat.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'm with you. Not a fan of melon in general. It tastes like vom to me. You know the cilantro-soap gene? Maybe there's a melon-vom gene, and I have it.

by Connect_Beautiful502 1 week ago

Cantaloupe tastes like expensive hand soap to me. I love honeydew though

by duncan54 1 week ago

Bojack horseman ass take

by Savings-Scratch 1 week ago

There are definitely better melons to get off with in the world. The cluster of seeds in the middle is off putting for me injecting my pudding.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Cantaloupe is not good. I agree

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It tastes like nail polish remover.

by Minute_Art7836 1 week ago

High-end cantaloupe is one of the most expensive fruits in my country, it's really well regarded. I have only had it once because I am not paying 50-60 USD (or more) for a melon, but it was extremely good. Maybe not worth the cost, but I will happily take one if it's given to me. I feel if it's tasteless it must be a fairly low quality melon, because I found it really sweet.

by Effective_Toe_2640 1 week ago

I feel this way about cucumbers. And also cantaloupes.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Funniest title.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Clearly you need non grocery store cantaloupe.

by Safe-Royal792 1 week ago

Grocery store cantaloupe is bland and gross, I fully agree with you. However, I got a cantaloupe in a farmshare box somewhat revently and it was amazing. It's what I remember cantaloupe tasting like when I was a little kid. Sweet, tender, and refreshing. It tasted more like melon than the best melon candy.

by Bethel39 1 week ago

You're the cantaloupe of humanity.

by katherinezieman 1 week ago

Unpopular and agreed

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Sounds like you've never been to a good farmers market during prime cantaloupe season and had a professional pick one out for you. Grocery store cantaloupe and cantaloupe on a plate at a restaurant are terrible. But I look forward to the end of July when those babies show up at our local farmers market.

by Lucianoprice 1 week ago

Every piece of canteloupe I've ever ever eaten had a very strong flavor. Unfortunately, that flavor is disgusting. The texture isn't bad, though.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Move to Australia and start calling them rockmelons. Thennn... you will know what a real "cantalouoe" should taste like. The american ones are what a Big Mac is to a real hamburger. Ie, no contest.

by Uptongranville 1 week ago

Agreed, it's foul.

by Dhartmann 1 week ago

Papaya is also disgusting.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

There are only a handful of foods I straight up will not eat. Cantaloupe is one of them. It's foul.

by Margotkirlin 1 week ago

Agreed, and may I add that all melons are terrible. I don't understand why they mostly smell like garbage. Hard pass, no thanks.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

it's not that deep. you can not like cantaloupe but i ain't reading all that

by Marvingus 1 week ago

Yes it's tasteless.

by Adrainzieme 1 week ago

Great take cantaloupe sucks.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Cantaloupe is a decent filler fruit, but it has the weirdest flavor that I don't like. Watermelon is sweet water, which just hits the spot, and honeydew when ripe (when not they literally taste like nothing) are also incredibly sweet. But cantaloupe isn't really sweet and on its own it's disappointing.
