Most CGI looks better (or at least, more believable) at lower resolutions. amirite?

Completely agree. Watching CGI-heavy movies projected on 35mm film also makes a huge difference - I rewatched Phantom Menace on film, and the CGI melds with the live-action far more seamlessly. It looked incredible, actually. There's also a softness and warmth to film that's a lot more awe-inspiring and immersive than the flat cold look of digital. Highly recommend making 35mm your preferred viewing format.

I mean yeah, if cgi is bad it's going to be less noticeable if you make it blurrier. The sky is blue.

If you have your TVs version of "motion smoothing" turned on CGI will look a good deal worse.
