+61 60$ is not ridiculous for a game, and 400+ for a console is normal. amirite?

My problem isn't the initial price when it comes to Nintendo. It's the fact that they never lower the price. Why does Nintendo have multiple games that were originally released during the Wii U era on their store for full price ($60) still in 2025?

by kirstinschamber 1 week ago

It's more profitable for Nintendo to keep games the same price forever. If consumers notice that the prices never drop, they'll feel more inclined to pay full price for a product. If people see that things dip in price/go on sale, they'll feel more inclined to wait for prices to drop rather than making the purchase now. I'm not saying it isn't scummy or ridiculous, I just know that Nintendo believes lower their own prices "devalues" their products permanently. The developers of Factorio believe the same thing.

I mean of course it's more profitable for them no one is arguing that haha

Nintendo believes lower their own prices "devalues" their products permanently Also a lot of people will just wait for games to go on sale before buying (like on other platforms). With Nintendo, you either buy the game full price, wait for a maybe 10-15% sale, or buy second hand (where it'll still be fairly expensive)

I bought factorio for 9$.

Yes, but they want to sell games for 80, not 60

by Appropriate_Crab3901 1 week ago

I use steam, so I see 60 a lot

by Numerous-Lock 1 week ago

You're points are null and void. You using steam has zero to do with Nintendo trying to normalize 80 dollar games.

That's like saying McDonalds prices are fine, then talking about your experience in KFC

I also believe everything giant companies want me to

Who wrote this? Nintendo?

Micro transactions are super dope too

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Even better when the micro transaction is to buy an rng loot box instead of what you want directly 😍

by Bubbly_Feed1925 1 week ago

Now why would people gripe about expensive games and consoles while most games incorporate loot box or microtransactions. Hmmmm, idk it's a thinker

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Agreed, people complaining about prices and if you convert the dollar to time spent playing the game, you're literally paying what, a dollar an hour of entertainment? Sometimes more, sometimes less, and you can always resell if it's a physical copy.

by Decent_Tie_5662 1 week ago

That's an issue for society, not Nintendo's pricing system.

by Decent_Tie_5662 1 week ago

Not really seeing as Nintendo doesn't NEED to sell these games at $80 dollars and are part of the reason why prices keep going up. Corporate greed. The two go hand in hand.

by Gradyreggie 1 week ago

Inflation, cost of development on more games, etc. prices should be going up naturally. $20 more for a game is not a dealbreaker. Unless you make $10 an hour then that's an issue. Things are not priced proportionally to your income or job or country. This is how things are in this world.

I agree with 400 isn't bad for a console as it's cheaper than a pc build and what we've been paying for years baseline. However gtfo of here with the game prices. I used to agree when you bought the game and actually owned it however those assholes are only leasing the game to you. If I have full ownership and can play regardless if I'm online or off etc then cool but with the disk being just a long term lease as you need the network to download the game and all it's absolutely bs that they want us to pay that much to lease a stupid game. Value of in game play doesn't matter when you can be kicked off and unable to play at anytime due to countless reasons now

I have a couple of relatives who are artists who work on games and the amount of time and money that goes into developing the games is well worth the price. Plus the amount of game play time you get from one game makes it well worth it, too. So not an unpopular opinion to me.

by alexander53 1 week ago

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Some games are worth the price especially if they have the replay option.

by jennyfermckenzi 1 week ago

I don't understand why do many people are falling over themselves to pay more to companies that are already profitable.

by Hefty_Hospital 1 week ago

They use to sell complete games for 30-50 bucks that were bug tested too. You have to let your game load up 2-6 hours now before playing. lol Even now we get patches weekly. It sucks at times.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You can have 300 hours of fun with a Basketball. Games and movies are overpriced.

by AdKindly 1 week ago

I agree however 90$ 100$ is way to expensive for a game and consoles shouldn't cost 600$ plus. Console gaming should be the affordable option.

by YouthAggravating 1 week ago

$90 today is about what $50-$60 was worth in the early 2000s. We've always been paying that price for games. The problem is that wages haven't kept up with inflation in many industries. But ultimately, that is the price of a video game. We also just have game inflation. With cheap steam sales and things like game pass, we all have access to 100s of games at any moment. One game feels less valuable because we have so many of them to choose from. Really not a terrible problem to have.

by No-Lawfulness-2674 1 week ago

I do not care about that at all, I just will not pay 100$ for Mario kart.
