Hand to hand combat scenes in movies are better without music or a soundtrack, amirite?

Less realistic and more of a theatrical feel for sure. I can only imagine that is what they are going for. Real fights aren't very entertaining and are usually off-putting to watch.

Yeah, you could say it depends on the caliber of the movie. Like a comedy with some silly fight? Yeah, toss music in. An action focused movie? Make it off-putting to get that uncomfortable realism.

Not even action movies. Most of those are cartoonish. It would have to be a crime drama or psychological thriller. Like a mafia movie doesn't need music during a fight scene but Fast and the Furious or James Bond would 100% do that.

That is so much more effective at conveying emotion than if they just had a montage of bugs getting blown up with Metallica or Slayer playing in the background.

The best examples I know of the no music fight scenes are in the first 3 Jason Bourne movies.

No one wants realism from action movies. Even people who think they do don't.

Yeah, we all loved Dune 2.

Have you ever heard an actual fight? It sounds more like two people trying to be worse at sex than the other one. If sound designers didn't add in noise and music, it'd be really unpleasant.

That sounds like a wrestling focused fight scene. Hand to hand combat? Much more punches and shots being heard than grunting. Fights are supposed to be unpleasant hence why I think they're better in movies without music.
