This is why chaos agents would actually become heroes. The default for super powered individuals would be abusing their power and becoming dictators or something similar. Those rare powered individuals who just want to disrupt and deny others their position of power would be the safeguards.

I think a lot of people want to do that, but don't have the superpowers that would make it more feasible for them.

I have one thing to say: Vampires are the best metaphor for capitalism.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

What are Zombies about, essentially? I agree about Vampires.

Not sure, but Count Dracula lived in a castle because he was a literal Count (a person of nobility) it has always been a metaphor for the rich, and will always be the best metaphor for capitalism. I don't think zombies have any meaning, literally just "what if you died but came back to life"

For zombies it's more breaking out of the everyday monotony of being part of an advanced capitalist society. So less a metaphor for any particular class but more about society and the system as a whole. The fantasy being all the systems collapse so now it's a free for all, giving agency back to people in the quickest adapt or die way possible. I liken it to a guiltless purge scenario since everyone around you not only is trying to kill you, but they're already technically dead so there could even be some justification about putting them to rest.

The wage slaves that simp for capitalism because they think they'll get to be a vampire one day.

by tmckenzie 1 week ago

Elaborate? I assume you mean because capitalism often has seemingly evil old men that refuse to die and hoard their wealth. Oh and because they are bloodthirsty and prey upon the innocent?

This isn't very profound, this is the entire onus of Omniman and Homelander.

Yes, though I was thinking more specifically third world countries without any regulations or laws regarding superhumans, which is something I think first world countries would heavily regulate

Democracy only makes sense when people are born relatively equal. Most superpower setting has powers in so different power level ranging from "has a tail" to "dictate reality at will". People are born totally not equal.
