+52 People who go camping with RV's/campers aren't really camping, amirite?

by Ona26 2 weeks ago

You survive with bare minimum supplies like portable gas stoves, tents, maybe fishing rods for an activity or for food, etc. You bring a stove and a tent? Bougie. The act of setting up and doing all these things is what makes camping fun For you, maybe. it seems like the pay to win version of camping. Win what? The Camping trophy? With that kind of money, I wouldn't be surprised if whoever buys them have never lived through more than a couple rough nights. That or they lived through enough rough nights that they want to sleep on a real bed now that they can afford to. It really doesn't matter though. If someone wants to sleep in their camper and call it camping, neat. I've got a lot of nights out in the wilderness and no amount of gatekeeping kept me warmer at night.

by eugenia00 2 weeks ago

Over my decades of camping, car camping is a huge luxury to me now lol and having a 4 person tent with a real air mattress instead of squeezing into a 1.5 person with all my gear is AMAZING.

by stanton00 2 weeks ago

Everyone wants to feel like they are tougher than than the next guys. I'm guessing this person is either very young or very insecure if they feel like they need to gatekeep camping

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

People that use tents aren't camping either. That's why I go out in the wilderness fully naked and fend for myself. I usually come home after a few hours.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Naked and afraid?

by dorothydamore 2 weeks ago

not afraid, just naked and numb

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That really isn't camping, either. That's why I have people knock me out and dump me at least 100 km away from civilization.

by Shot_Bag8940 2 weeks ago

That's not really camping. I get dumped naked 120 km from civilization after my handlers have fully antagonized a mama grizzly bear 20m from my position.

by Exotic-Accident 2 weeks ago

A friend of mine, Michael Scott, did this wearing his business suit! He only lasted a couple of hours...

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lol I was gonna say, most car camping with tents is nowhere close to outdoor survival. Tent camping is just a nice way to connect with nature, while still being near my beautiful car.

by breitenbergoral 2 weeks ago

Who is talking about outdoor survival? I mean the best of the best tap out on Alone after a week, it takes a serious dude to make it (or dudette, there have been some awesome chicks on that show).

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I pitch a tent every morning...

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Obviously the only solution. Are you allowed to use SPF or would that be cheating?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Well I go camping naked in the middle of winter with no tools an no technology and tell no one where Im going.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Thing is there is probably some dude who thinks you are cheating with your gas stove Then there is another dude who thinks even bringing a car is cheating and you should only do back country trek camping If you wanna gate keep it's a never ending line

by Louveniadeckow 2 weeks ago

If you're not wiping your ass with sticks and leaves, you're not really camping

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

What about the 3 shells? Where does that fall?

by eugenia00 2 weeks ago

We don't get the 3 shells until closer to 2032. I mean, we don't even have San Angeles yet.

by Slight-Fee 2 weeks ago

You wipe your ass? I poop like a bear: on the trails, cheeks spread - that's true camping right there. /s

by Jailyncrona 2 weeks ago

Personally I'm not a massive fan of drive-up campsites, I actually do prefer campsites you have to hike to. Not going to tell other people to do the same though

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Tent camping vs sleeping in a camper is a pretty damn clear line

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

No it isn't.

by Sorry_Piano_6015 2 weeks ago

Yeah, you can have a pretty ridiculously elaborate camp set up, but once you have power, plumbing, a bed a couch and a fridge like most RVs, you aren't camping, you are just staying in a small hotel.

by Most_Call 2 weeks ago

Most camping sites have those same amenities.. Minus the fridge and couch

by Active-Sector 2 weeks ago

Exactly, if you're running a generator and blasting tv while in bed you might as well be at home. I went camping with my dad and people pulled up close by and did just that which kept us up at night. Just find a motel and do day trips at that point.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Everyone knows that getting put under then waking up in the wilderness buck naked is the only real way to camp

by Correct_Evidence 2 weeks ago

bare minimum supplies portable gas stoves Lmao

by Correct_Evidence 2 weeks ago

I also lol'd on that one

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

People go camping to get away from other people

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

wait, am I camping every day?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I wish I was. I'm right on the road but can't see my neighbors. I hate mist campgrounds because there are way more people close to me than my house

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

for years my husband and i rented a barn apartment on the edge of protected forest, by the ocean. going to campground was so loud! so many people, generators, radios, etc. it was always nice to get home to the peace and quiet after camping!

by vonruedenpaula 2 weeks ago

That's not universal, otherwise people wouldn't camp in groups. Just being surrounded by nature and out of your old habits is fantastic.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You should have to build shelters from sticks and leaves, start fire with friction and bring only a pot and a knife!

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

A pot and knife? That's too bougie. Back in my day, you made your own knife from broken shards of flint, and carved a cooking pot from the skulls of your enemies!

by Actual-Swordfish 2 weeks ago

Oooohhhh a pot. Look at Mr bougie over here

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You're probably right but I love my RV and if I don't earn any camping merit badges, so be it. Spending all day hiking, swimming and roasting marshmallows is great but having air conditioned sex and being able to waddle pants-less to the bathroom afterwards is the dream.

by Cheap-Turnover-9503 2 weeks ago

Exactly, I'm trying to be comfortable lol.

by Andreanne13 2 weeks ago

True. However you don't have to put yer food in a tree and worry about getting eaten alive by a bear. So there's that.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

As someone with a permanent site at a campground and a 34 foot camper, I 100% agree OP. What I do isn't camping, and that's because IMO real camping sucks. It's too much like work, which is what I'm trying to get away from when I go there in the first place. After I fish all day, I want AC, a hot meal and some TV. Does that make me weak? Probably. But I don't care.

by No-Share 2 weeks ago

Oh you think my glamping is cheating? Oh no! Whatever shall I do??? You're free to stay for some fondue if you'd like.

by Lindsey33 2 weeks ago

So what you're saying is I need to muscle in on the used rv market

by arvillaprice 2 weeks ago

Anything less than a hotel with room service is camping.

by Zelda62 2 weeks ago

Oh no! They didn't get your camping badge! What a tragedy...

by Mediocre_Still_636 2 weeks ago

It's called a vacation.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Do you drive to wherever you're glamping? I hike the whole way with only my pack. Anything else is not real camping.

by Vast-Cycle-6915 2 weeks ago

You're not wrong but most of them will actually tell you that themselves lol. They usually care more about having easier access to nature than being totally entrenched.

by Name46 2 weeks ago

I mean practicing survival skills is definitely not my idea of fun 😂 I'll stick to indoor plumbing and ac

by Frequent_Local_3562 2 weeks ago

Agreed. If that's camping then living in a trailer park is camping.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You'll see plenty of wildlife I'm sure.

by Different_Panic5772 2 weeks ago

I mean, camping technically just means field. And it was something wealthy people started doing you think they just came with a tent and a sleeping bag and a Benson burner? Saying RV or camper camping "isn't real camping" is like saying you're not "really reading" unless it's a hardcover book in candlelight. The essence of camping is stepping away from your normal home environment and experiencing nature ,not how thin your walls are. Whether it's a tent, a camper, or even a hammock, it's all camping if you're immersing yourself in the outdoors.

by DeliciousPepper 2 weeks ago

You bring a gas stove camping? What's wrong with a campfire?

by Kellibalistreri 2 weeks ago

Yeah if you dont forage for hours and rub two sticks together to start a fire and then hunt your own food your faking it!!!!!

by satterfieldlore 2 weeks ago

True, anything other than bare hands for hunting is an unfair advantage as well.

by Kellibalistreri 2 weeks ago

You get it. If you dont sleep in a cave you're faking it too. You think cavemen had tents??? NO, they did not.

by satterfieldlore 2 weeks ago

I assumed he was talking about rock tents, no way anyone would go camping with that polyester and pole thing.

by Kellibalistreri 2 weeks ago

Your right they are not camping. They are Glamping 😉 Source: it's what I do 👍

by Ecstatic_Mission 2 weeks ago

The point of camping is to enjoy it, not to suffer so you can show everyone what a manly woodsman you are.

by Actual-Swordfish 2 weeks ago

Love it 😂. There is no prize in the end for being a martyr

by Outside_Green_3861 2 weeks ago

🤣got that right

by Outside_Green_3861 2 weeks ago

The people using a camper aren't really camping is funny to me.

by Slight-Fee 2 weeks ago

I know …I mean it's a camper !

by Outside_Green_3861 2 weeks ago

"The whole point of camping is to be out in the wilderness. " lol for you maybe. For many families it's to go on vacation to a tourist location and stay somewhere much cheaper than a hotel. I had a family with a ton of kids and we went on tons of trips every year. We never could've gone on most of them if we had to pay hotel prices.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

There are different levels of camping. Even sleeping in an RV counts. But the more luxurious the RV gets, the less i consider it camping.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

no, its not really camping but its kind of a hobby in its own class. I personally am not a fan but most RVer's arent really claiming to be campers they are just roaming around for a change of scenery.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

RV parks are just middle class trailer parks. 🤷

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

it's called glamping

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I agree. It's only camping when you sleep in a tent.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Would you expect anything else?

by No-Tone-3536 2 weeks ago

Absolutely not

by Acceptable_Top_4560 2 weeks ago

Whatever it takes to get folks out there, really.

by Familiar-Banana 2 weeks ago

You're clicky-clacking on the internet being mad and complaining about strangers having a nice time. I think you lost this round.

by Gullible-Bug 2 weeks ago

well its called rving and you go to RV/Caravan camps so it is camping by definition of the term camping.. its not outdoor camping for sure and issue is in the US alot of people make the terms interchangeable as else where outside of the US rv camping is called caravanning

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Just join the Army

by PrincipleRoutine 2 weeks ago

Has the word "glamping" been forgotten folks? There was a whole American Dad episode on this!

by reginaldshanaha 2 weeks ago

Yeah, that scruffy dude under the bridge with his dog and his little fire in the tent are living the dream. That's REAL camping, right there.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

If they are having fun, I don't think it really matters

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

They're also not really people rbah

by FastGreen 2 weeks ago

Gas stoves? Tents? Luxury! Back in my day hard ground was our bed and rock our pillow to.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

A lot of people who don't ever leave the city nitpicking the way you used the term camping, truly yuppie mentality.

by Antique-Sir7482 2 weeks ago

Glamping

by Cruickshankchlo 2 weeks ago

Camping sucks any way you do it.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

If we're splitting hairs here then bringing a portable stove isn't really camping either.

by charlenerath 2 weeks ago

So all those campers I saw last Sunday heading out to Lava River Cave weren't out in nature? Could have fooled me...

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

People who gatekeep camping aren't really gatekeeping.

by Fun-Energy-3156 2 weeks ago

You sound like all of my tent camping friends.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You call tents and stoves camping? Get out there and start smacking rocks together to get a sharp edge to chop wood with, you glamper! Let people camp how they want. It's not a competition.

by Complete-Ability3671 2 weeks ago

I'm more curious on how people even afford to do this anymore

by Still-Adeptness 2 weeks ago

I hammock camp so I laugh at all you tv/tent people!! /s

by horacio44 2 weeks ago

So?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yep, this is an unpopular opinion lol who gatekeeps camping? I like camping in a tent. But I bring an inflatable mattress and a real pillow. Does that mean I'm not really camping? Last time I camped someone brought a portable stove and a moka pot and we made fresh coffee in the morning. I went camping once with a guy who didn't bring a tent and slept under the stars. I guess from his perspective, you don't actually camp.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I guess I have this unpopular opinion too. Tent camping, camping with no tent is horrible and I've done it and I'll never do it again. An rv which is also terrible to me would have been welcome during those "vacations"

by buckridgenicole 2 weeks ago

This is a pretty popular opinion lol

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Eh. This isn't something to gatekeep in my opinion. Just getting out there is a positive thing. Sure, there are 'levels' but who cares?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Okay

by eddie21 2 weeks ago

People who use portable gas stoves aren't camping, either, by your definition. Make fire like caveman.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

OP talking about people who camp but aren't really camping but is bringing all of these tools and supplies. Pathetic. We all know real campers go in with nothing but their cloths. Maybe a knife if they are a fake camper and need the help.

by No_Task_2737 2 weeks ago

I don't care if people use RV's, but I do think that tent campsites and RV campsites should be separate. There's nothing worse than having to deal with people running their generators in the middle of the night.

by Worried_Sky_8962 2 weeks ago

Oh good, another gatekeeper.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yes they are Rving 🤡

by Carligislason 2 weeks ago

PACKING LIST [ ] hammock [ ] fishing line & hook [ ] matches [ ] Spam single (in case fish aren't biting) [ ] trowel for digging worms & cat holes [ ] bear spray to ward off bears & season the Spam or fish

by kuhnjavon 2 weeks ago

I want to enjoy the outdoors during the waking hours but also have a flushing toilet and sleep comfortably. Guess I won't be winning your camper award

by Objective_One4835 2 weeks ago

Personally, I think all camping is just homelessness appropriation and incredibly disrespectful to people who HAVE to live in tents, assuming they can even get their hands on one of those... You're gonna buy a bunch of stuff and pay to live like people with zero money... Camping is bougie as hell, RV or not.

by jswift 2 weeks ago

Camping with a 100k camper definitely isn't camping. Ill meet up with my parents camping in their luxury 5th wheel, and I might as well just set a tent up in their backyard. Something is lost with camping when you can do laundry and watch movies on a 42 inch. Why not just get a hotel room?

by antoniettabrekk 2 weeks ago
