If androids replace humans eventually it will be okay - just the next step in human evolution, amirite?
by Anonymous2 weeks ago
I don't think you know how evolution works.

I'm obviously not talking about biological evolution driven by natural selection, but rather functional evolution - like the way horse and buggies were replace by cars, and how rotary phones were replaced by digital devices. If an android does everything a human does, but better, that's a type of evolution.

and they created androids in their own image...

They're different from us because they're not humans. If dolphins or some other animal evolved to have all of those things you listed, that wouldn't make them human or an evolution of human.

We didn't create dolphins in our image, but if we create androids in our image...

First of all that's not evolution. They don't have ancestors. Second of all...why do people want relationships with people who's personalities we can change by plugging them into a computer and typing a few 1s and 0s so badly? Why do people want that kinda of person to exist?

Well, presumably these androids' personalities wouldn't be determined by us, but by themselves and their purpose wouldn't be to serve us - they would be autonomous PEOPLE with the same wants, desires and emotions as us.

imagine if your body got old and you had the option to transfer your consciousness into a human-like android body - would you do it? Would you still be you?

The Department of Education folks. That's all.

This simplistic statement masquerading as an opinion of some sort is the most depressing thing I've read today

Nah, imma be robophobic when all that comes around. My kid is marrying flesh and blood, idc how that flesh and blood presents themselves, but they will be flesh and blood.

One day soon. The sun will set on the age of man. The next step is either we genetically engineer ourselves and merge with machines to trancend our humanity or we can create a cybernetic consciousness that is superior to a human one. Consciousness is simply the universes way of perceiving itself and it doesn't really matter where it comes from. It doesn't have to be from a human. And it probably wont. Not what we think of as human at least. We currently have the best shot at creating a consciousness that will endure and outlast humankind and spread throughout the rest of the cosmos, and it will be one that will be without the human self destructive weaknesses and short term thinking.
