+45 Turning around your car on someone else's driveway is completely fine, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

People actually get mad whenever someone uses their driveway to turn around?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

People have gotten shot at for that..

by lillagottlieb 2 days ago

The story goes that he "fired a warning shot" and then tripped over himself and "accidentally" fired the 2nd shot which killed one of the girls in the car.

by lillagottlieb 2 days ago

Yes, it was a terrible incident, and the homeowner was at fault. They went to the wrong house, and the dude fired at them. There's more to ti the story, but that's the gist.

by Repulsive-Cell8323 2 days ago

They are killed because an unstable person owned a gun, the turning around on the driveway wasn't the actual cause, and it is fairly disingenuous to say it was.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah one of the many reasons I'll never move to the US, absolute insanity with guns over there.

by Bertha84 2 days ago

Only by MAGAts though that are scared of black people even existing

by justynleannon 2 days ago

Lol dumb

by Anonymous 2 days ago

people have gotten shot for it 🫠

by Anonymous 2 days ago

This must be America. What the f. In my country the front between the road and your house is not even your property.

by Desperate_Use_3926 2 days ago

In america*

by Ursulajohnston 2 days ago

the only reason the home owners I know in England aren't doing this is because nobody will sell them guns

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Good reason to keep the ban on guns

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Easy to ban something when you live on an island.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Please, euro cops use excessive force all the time. They just don't have the same level of constant scrutiny

by Outrageous-Emu 2 days ago

You're definitely right, not saying it doesn't happen at all. But if you don't think there is a difference in frequency and severity in a force not carrying guns and trained in de-escalation, then k dunno what to tell ya. I think you're just ignoring facts at that point.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

And then there's the rest of Europe with similar laws...

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I've had someone square up with my car when I was 18 and trying to turn around in the first 2 feet of someone's long ass driveway in Pennsylvania. They so happened to be there and it was really scary. He noticed me after I was already backing out so it was so confusing as to why he was so furious

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Maybe from people who are just looking for issues

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I witnessed someone looking out their window and complaining about it as someone was turning around in their driveway. I think she was being ridiculous, but she has MANY mental issues diagnosed (and maybe only "self medicated" 🤷‍♀️)

by Feisty-Dig-2643 2 days ago

Was just gonna say that.🤣 My sister lives on a one way, and if you want to leave her street, you have to use another driveway to make the 3 point turn. I've been doing it for years and not one person has ever batted an eye.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Never seen it, never even heard of it

by Anonymous 2 days ago

People go as far as to put up signs in their driveways saying "no turning". Never understood it either.

by Wehnerkamille 2 days ago

I'm a delivery driver and have to do this all the time, haven't had a single person flip out yet, but even if they did I doubt a person could run out of their house fast enough to karen at me before I complete the turn..

by lillagottlieb 2 days ago

Yep, former UPS driver here, never once happened to me. Most of these people are making this up.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

When I used to canvass I would see so many house with little signs saying "no turn around" it was always the houses at the end of a cul-de-sac or a dead end road.

by Jastmarcos 2 days ago

I've been in plenty of rural America situations and seen signs about it.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Unless the driver is somehow causing significant damage to the driveway and/or associated property, I see no problem with doing this, especially since a short amount of time is spent on the driveway anyways. (P.S.: People get mad over this??)

by Anonymous 2 days ago

(P.S.: People get mad over this??) I would think it would only be people where it would happen frequently. People living in a location where people are constantly turning around because there's a turn that sneaks up on people and they end up missing it or whatever reason.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Adding to this, really people put yourself in their shoes. And especially at night. Headlights coming up your driveway and shining in your windows every hour or so. One of those mildly infuriating things. No, it's not at all worth shooting someone over. But annoying nonetheless

by PassLivid 1 day ago

Ok that's understandable. If I lived in an area where drivers frequently turned around on my driveway, I would probably be pretty annoyed. I'd be annoyed, but as long as the drivers didn't significantly damage my property, I'd cool off pretty fast.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The problem is that while most drivers are competent enough to use a driveway to turn around, there are the muppets who aren't and run over my sprinklers along the end of my driveway >:(

by Anonymous 1 day ago

People have been known in Murricaland to come out with weapons in hand over it. Never stray from the road in rural Texas, whether on foot or in a car. Not everyone is nuts, but the odds are high enough I wouldn't chance it unless you have to.

by Nola71 1 day ago

I'll be honest, I might have turned the engine off and stared back

by Louveniadonnell 1 day ago

Good way to get shot

by Personal_Wallaby_626 1 day ago

Not where I live

by Louveniadonnell 1 day ago

And I was talking about what I personally would do in the given situation, since I do not live in the US getting shot is not a serious consideration

by Louveniadonnell 1 day ago

My drive way is about a mile long, so if they turn around at the road entry that's whatever bc there isn't many roadways to turn around here.. but ain't no reason to make it all the way to my house to turn around 😆

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Came here to say to say the same. If someone gets up to my house it's either a delivery, or a problem.

by bechtelarmagnol 1 day ago

I agree. I lived in a small town and they always had those signs saying "NO TRESPASSING" or "THIS OWNER IS ARMED". I don't pull into someone's driveway if I'm in the country, but I see these signs in highly populated neighborhoods. Some people even put signs up saying "DON'T PULL IN TO TURN AROUND!" I don't wanna get shot for Google maps being confusing

by Mossie67 1 day ago

I agree with you but avoid doing it with the stories of people being shot for it. But I'm an anxious guy lol What happened to Kaylin Gillis

by Anonymous 1 day ago

There are people that do ruin lawns when they attempt to turn around and just miss the driveway. Then at night if you live in a spot that a lot of people use to turn around, having lights flood your house like someone is there does disturb your peace. Other than that some people are just grumpy

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Most people these days wouldn't know how to turn their auto headlights to off if their life depended on it.

by camila19 1 day ago

Agree. And yet terrified conservative boomer have killed kids over it. Our country is effed

by Abbottbelle 1 day ago

I'm that driveway. No worries. you should have gone north off the highway. I know why you turned around here, you're good

by Anonymous 1 day ago

For balance, except when you live somewhere that everyone uses as a turning point. Occasional car turning in your drive, no big deal. Constant stream of cars doing it, not so great.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Why would this upset anyone??? I'd rather someone use my driveway to safely turn around than do a potentially dangerous three point turn in the middle of a public road.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I think a lot of people are getting a window into how cold and impersonal North American culture can get

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This is only a unpopular opinion in the US

by Ursulajohnston 1 day ago

It's unpopular everywhere It's a completely psychotic thing to care about

by Emotional_Bike 1 day ago

Sounds like someone talkin' about somethin they know nothing about. In the majority of countries I've been to, Mexico, in S. America and in Europe, people with a house that has a driveway, got a damn gate to keep people out. It's only in the U.S. that you don't see that.

by That_Succotash_6623 1 day ago

I make a point of turning in driveways with NO TURNING signs, even if I don't need to.

by Single-Ice7243 1 day ago

I know in the Netherlands its even documented in traffic laws that this is allowed. Not really an issue right

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Turning around in a circular driveway is problematic. I've had idiots (asshole neighbors) harass me that way. But a driveway turn around is fine.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

That makes total sense, thanks!

by Fast_Ad 1 day ago

The only time I care is if it happens before I can shovel the snow. My driveway is steep and north-facing. If someone drives on fresh snow and makes icy patches it can be a bitch to safely get up or down the driveway.

by AdmirableInvite 1 day ago

I never said it wasn't.

by Economy-Trainer1036 1 day ago

I actually agree with this as someone that has been a courier for the most of probably the last seven or eight years. I've definitely utilized people driveways quite a few times and at least a few times I've had somebody make some kind of deal out of it. The worst situation somebody came out just my opinion more to stand is ground but instead of being nice or anything came out really pissed off and screaming I was already backing out I backed out and drove off.

by Flashy_West_9301 1 day ago

People get shot doing it.

by Repulsive-Cell8323 1 day ago

I'd sooner they use my driveway than damage my front yard again.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

In some states, it's illegal. Doesn't make it ok for someone to shoot at you. That has actually happened and I hope for the worst for the shooter.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

When I took my driving test the examiner told me that going into someone's driveway to turn around was an instant fail.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Damn I've pissed off a lot of country folks

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I've driven large emergency vehicles and military vehicles for several years now and can turn them around in the street if I have to. It's a skill issue. Learn to drive.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Get us all in those emergency and/ or military vehicles and we might.

by Louveniadonnell 1 day ago

it's just as easy to do a 3 point turn in the road.

by Dull-Ad3197 1 day ago

depends on the width of the road. where i have to park for work, the road is not wide enough for two cars to pass each other when there's cars parked on either side. if im driving up the road and spot a parking spot on my left, it's either turn around in someone's driveway to grab it or make a ten million point turn with the tiniest adjustments every time or else im hitting someone's car 🥲😭

by Anonymous 1 day ago

if you need to use my driveway to turn around go ahead

by HealthAggressive3834 1 day ago

It happens frequently at my house as I live near a corner. I don't care if they do it. And I have no qualms about turning around in a stranger's driveway.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I only get mad, because it reminds me that the builder should have put in a roundabout, but they were greedy, added another house, and turned it into a fire access only deadend.

by Dominichowell 1 day ago

Entering someone's property without permission outside of an emergency is just a dick move. Only other exception is if not using their driveway would be unsafe.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

United States has become really unfriendly over the years .....

by Longjumping-Tie 1 day ago

Maybe if it happens all the time it would be annoying

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Not a unpopular opinion, the only option on many many roads

by SurroundOther7321 1 day ago

My young cousins and nieces and nephew visit regularly and I lile to think that they are safe to run around at will on my proprierty without having to care about a car popping up randomly on it.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I've literally never heard of someone getting pissed for having their driveway used to turn around. Why is this even here?

by Funny-Homework1012 1 day ago

I've had someone call the cops on me for using their driveway to turn around. It happens a lot, I'm glad you don't have to deal with it.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I wouldn't mind, but it is damaging my driveway, and randos have hit & run my car, twice. I've got a big concrete and gravel repair job on deck that you can clearly see is from people turning around, and cameras to capture the collisions. I want to agree with you, but I'm guessing you haven't had to foot the bill for repairs yet, just wait, you'll change your tune.

by Abbigailmoen 1 day ago

How is it damaging your driveway?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Surely if someone pulling onto the first couple feet of your driveway is causing damage to it then your OWN cars would also be causing that same damage whenever you drive onto it yourself?

by Louveniadonnell 1 day ago

Said the apt renter

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Wait, is renting an apartment something to be embarrassed about?

by Kohlerangeline 1 day ago

Just the weirdest insult ever though. Like "HA! You live somewhere?"
