There is this scene in Shallow Hal. The "spell" that made Hal see things differently had worn off, and he went back to the children's ward at the hospital. Last time he was there, he joked that all these kids were faking it and that they looked great and healthy. One of the kids recognized Hal and called to him from across the hall, and he turned towards her and was taken aback. It's then revealed that like half of that girl's face is severely burned, which he couldn't see before. But he does his best to act natural so that the little girl is none the wiser. I think of that scene from time to time.

I hate Will Ferrell's comedy with a passion! The only thing I've ever liked him in is Stranger Than Fiction. I forgive him because that movie is incredibly good. Jack Black I at least find endearing. But Will Ferrell is the kind of guy who knows all too well that people think he's funny. Like he'd pause for a laugh among close friends until everyone obliged him kind of annoying. And everyone obliges so they can move on with the night. I even find Elf insufferable. ELF, the beloved holiday movie just makes me angry.

I feel like if he actually made The Fatties 1 and 2, people wouldn't be surprised. He's kinda cartoony for kids. Jack Black is like a disco ball in your room as a tween. It's cool for the time, and that's okay! I think that, as an actor, he's leaned less towards "punk rock tween" actor and more "baby first ska" actor. He‘s got the nice vibe, seems like he'd give you some chips off his plate if you shared a table with him, and the kind of "Funcle" vibe where he'd be the one you'd tell if you had a secret to hid from your parents like how you heard Billy say a swear word.

Nacho Libre is the best movie he made and it's dumb as hell. Shallow Hal, I just didn't care for it. Kong sucked ass. Haven't watched Bernie, but heard good things, but avoid because jack black. School of Rock, saw it in theaters and it was okay I guess. I'd rather share needles with Charlie Sheen than watch tenacious D. Kung fu panda is a decent watch. Annoying is good as an animated kids movie voiceover.

I fully agree with this. I've never found him funny in any role he has been in. I agree he seems like a nice genuine guy. As a celebrity I think he's one of the better ones, but I can't stand anything he does. He's in the same bucket as Will Ferrell for me. Their humour is just "be random" which is extremely boring.

His older stuff is better for sure. I like the Jumanji movies, but not because he's in them. Tropic Thunder and School of Rock are probably my favorite movies of his. Minecraft, I feel, would have been a lot better if he didn't sing, it just killed it for me. The chicken shack jingle was just stupid. Overall, I don't hate him, but like every other actor that has the same personality in every movie they're in, he's run his course as being a reason to see a movie.

He got popular because of his band "Tenacious D", it was a comedy rock band that was pretty good to scream with your friends. Once I seen other people start to get it after I was pushing it for years, I was super happy for him. His energy matches what his rock band had, and he basically kept that kind of "energy humor" from that point onwards. I would give the first "Original Tenacious D" cd a listen to. I still to this day could probably rift 95% of every word on that whole cd. But I would say yeah, his energy is out of place in most movies. It's basically someone yelling "catch phrase", but with energy, like Jim Carry. I'd say Kung Fu Panda is where his energy works the most outside of Tenacious D.

He had a lot of potential after school of rock and some slightly serious roles. It feels like he kinda just ran with the ‘jack black IS the character' à la the rock. The last time I felt he played a character other than himself was tropic thunder. I think jack black comes across as good person who is kind and humble about his superstar status. I just wish we didn't get the standard ‘stock' poses, facial expression and vocal cadence/timber.

He was in the band Tenacious D, and considering the medium, they were downright hilarious. Jack Black is an excellent musician, and to other musicians, that is what he is first, and he is an actor second. It's like seeing Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers in a movie. It's Flea.
