+74 The carnivore diet is massively overhyped, amirite?

dont say common sense like "CICO". There will always be that one "i rarely eat, usually only 500kcal a day and i weight 400lb". yeah right..

People are really bad at estimating how much they are eating in a day. When I was in my 20's I started getting precise about how much I was eating while I was getting in shape so I started measuring all of my intake. It's the little things that add up the extra calories in a day that people tend not to factor in.

some products are confusing too. I had noddles packets that were like 100g dried Then had calories per 100g like 180kcal. making you assuming 1 pack was 180kcal Then on small print below said that the values above were COOKED WEIGHT, and that HALF a packed cooked was 150g. Essentially, a pack was indeed 540kcal, not 180.

It's a little more complicated than CICO. A teaspoon of oil and banana have a similar amount of calories. Your body will absorb 100% of the oil but not the banana.

not all calories are the same, but if you're 400lbs and you eat 1500kcal a day, you will 99% lose weight, fast. regardless of how much attention you put on macros. Although that doesnt mean is more/less healthy. a balanced died is important for your health and proteins makes you feel fuller for longer than sugar for example

Its not overhyped. Its popular amongst a few manosphere folks and mostly not taken very seriously by others and as a joke by a lot. Thats my impression at least

What's even more hilarious are the raw carnivores that I'm convinced are only raw dogging those steaks on social media lol

Whenever someone says "sustainable" I think of Hermitcraft and I cannot get it out of my head

Yes, we could call it "The Standard American Diet"

by ashleyframi 5 days ago

Haha for me that's the standard diet as a European, not sure that's very American, but I don't know.

CICO isn't a universal solution. There's a lot of science to back that! But yeah the carnivore diet is stupid

Any trendy diet is overhyped

Too much carnivore diet can make you leak cholesterol out of your sink

by handdashawn 5 days ago

To be fair, you could make this argument for basically every fad diet out there.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

You kind of contradicted yourself. If it's just calories in, calories out, then it wouldn't matter if a person cut out junk food. It's junk bc of all the bad ingredients. Also, a lot of people don't realize how addictive junk food is until they cut it out. For most people though, it's just not sustainable.

I'd recommend looking up the "Twinkie Diet."

by Pleasant-Loss 5 days ago

Youre eating less calories if you eat straight up protein since its usually more filling than eating other stuff. It is CICO

Which country has carnivores? Are they edible?

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Argentina is purely carnivore

Honest as a vegan, I disagree with them, but I have odd respect as well. They are creative people, I genuinely had no idea how they'd make a carnivore diet textured and flavorful, covering everything in butter probably isn't healthy, but if probably makes their food taste addictive. Just a guess.

It was a fad in 2019 because of Joe Rogan, is it still being hyped?

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Any diet that heavily restricts what you eat is going to be atrocious. Variety is much better. We're omnivores, not carnivores. I wouldn't call it overhyped though simply because it's incredibly niche like veganism.

every lifestyle is massively overhyped nowadays with all the social media.

by Lemkeverla 5 days ago

Carnivore/Keto is just veganism for conservatives lol

My response to anyone hyping the "carnivore" diet is "enjoy your colorectal cancer!"

Carnivore has its place. I eat a carnivore diet because of insane inflammation. Joint pain and mental health conditions. Carnivore makes it so I can live a normal life without handfuls of pain meds and without depression so bad I want to end it all. I'm not sure of the mechanism. But it works for me and my blood work is fantastic for my age. I don't cover everything in butter tho. So there's that.
