+40 The concept of canon in tv shows/animes/manga is so stupid, amirite?

I care

Why is that unpopular? You think having 10 million "fans" spouting anyhting makes it better?

I disagree. It's important for establishing the general characters and world. Otherwise any obscure little spin-off media made by an entirely separate person could make such a drastic change to the lore that it ends up spoiling the entire story. And if there isn't an official canon, then fans will just decide themselves what's canon and what's not. Which is fine, but then everyone will have a different idea of what is and isn't canon, so it'll be difficult for them to discuss the lore since they'd all have a different understanding of it. If there's an official canon, then it provides a base for everyone to discuss the franchise with. They can also then give their own opinions if they want of whether something should or shouldn't be canon.

Probably the only reasonable reply I've gotten here

by Anonymous 5 days ago

It's the concept of people getting butthurt over things that don't matter to other people. Obviously it's more of a minority of ppl who do that, it's just nauseatingly annoying.

>It's the concept of people getting butthurt over things that don't matter to other people Welp I hope the irony's not lost on you

by Anonymous 5 days ago

It indeed is not lol

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Question. Why do you call people discussing something they're a fan of "Getting Butthurt"? Why are you getting so butthurt about people discussing lore in a series/show/whatever?

by Anonymous 5 days ago

I think there's a difference between discussing lore and getting genuinely upset or overly invested when someone's interpretation doesn't match what you personally consider canon. It's fine to talk lore, but treating fictional storylines like they're rigid facts misses the whole point of enjoying fiction in my opinion.

It's possible to have discussions about canon and have fun without being annoying. You seem to only have encountered the annoying types who take it too seriously

Canon usually just means "it's actually a thing". It's kinda important cause even if it's all fictional, you need something concrete to enjoy them as a story. Calling it stupid cause they're not real is pretty dumb cause obviously people know they aren't real, people just like stuff (shocker). E.g. spiderverse had an ad with a car where iirc gwen drove the car. Obviously it's not canon and just for an ad cause it's overall not in character or align with the movies.

I think you're just unpleasant.

by sanfordrunte 5 days ago

You can have an unpopular opinion without being an asshole. Apparently this is too difficult for some people.

by sanfordrunte 5 days ago

Ironic it appears

by Anonymous 5 days ago

That's not what irony is but okay.

Oof

Hate to break it to you buddy, but humans have been doing it since the dawn of time. Ever since we started inventing gods - we've been making our own head canons and starting literal wars over which fictional characters are stronger. If cartoons and anime are where you think we've gone too far, and not the millions dead in wars, then you probably need to reassess what you're really mad at

Hate to break it to you buddy, people can do things since the dawn of history, I can still find it annoying.

This you?

And?

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Take your own advice.

by Street_Key 5 days ago

Ah, you must be one of the butthurt bums I'm referring to

by Anonymous 5 days ago

I think it depends.
