+37 Playing video games counts as a hobby. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Just find you one that likes gamin'

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I know but it's the principle they say it's not a hobby

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Sucky? How could you say that

by Anonymous 1 day ago

if you always think like this, I'm sorry to tell you that there will always be someone who thinks the opposite of what you think and you can never expect to change someone's mind. all you can do is tell them your point of view and understand theirs. in this case of looking for a partner, if that's a deal breaker for you that she doesn't respect your hobby (understandably so), then you have to move on, you can't expect of yourself to convince strangers of how you think.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What if I can change her

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If the women you are trying to date say that, they are probably not women you want to date. Not all of us are like that!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Gaming is a hobby but if you're someone who is into getting out of the house and doing fun things, a guy saying they are a gamer and watching movies as their hobbies sounds like they just sit around the house all day.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If outside is so great, why has mankind spent over 2000 years perfecting inside?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Well it's hot outside

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah but they're all sweaty

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What were you gonna say

by Anonymous 1 day ago

***POPULAR OPINION ALERT***

by Party_Swimmer_7736 1 day ago

LOUD NOISES!!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

That last paragraph seems almost self aware

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Right

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You can make the argument that gaming is a hobby. You can't force people to find that interesting.

by ProgrammerPrimary 1 day ago

They just don't understand me

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Two options: 1) Explain yourself and discuss why you're passionate about these things 2) Keep looking until you find another gamer like yourself

by ProgrammerPrimary 1 day ago

I also game and read books as a hobby. I always find it interesting how people view gaming as a waste of time or childish but they forgot they watch Netflix/TV shows with half bake plots. Or not plot at all. And it's not like we're mindlessly playing a game. Depending on the game you have to strategize to beat certain bosses/levels.

by Macbashirian 1 day ago

Gaming is more of an obsession with some people. Maybe that's why you go the response you got.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I dont know a single person that knows how to watch one episode of a show at a time. Every single one of my friends or family that watch TV binge multiple episodes at a time. This can be said about so many hobbies not just video games my friend.

by Lazy_Speech 1 day ago

Right, and good point. I wouldn't list watching Greys Anatomy on repeat as a hobby.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I've heard many stories of dads not helping with the kids because they're always gaming. I've never really heard of the same happening to the same magnitude if they're watching Netflix instead.

by jakeprice 1 day ago

A bad parent could be too busy watching Netflix to help with the kids too. And video games are not comparable to alcohol.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I don't think that the problem is that it isnt a real hobby, I think that they are just disappointed that it is the hobby πŸ˜‚

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What is that supposed to mean

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This person means that housewives is their hobby. They binge watch it then make fun of people for gaming lol

by Lazy_Speech 1 day ago

Yeah what a boring person lol

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Well, a hobby is also a small horse or pony. Take that for what it's worth.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

🐴

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Mine are playing video games, collecting Funko Pops, watching movies, and starting arguments on the internet. Replace "Funko Pops" with "Godzilla toys" and you've just described my BF.

by schummarianna 1 day ago

See how come he gets a GF and I don't

by Anonymous 1 day ago

There's hope! Just gotta find the right woman. It also helps to be really good in bed. ☺️

by schummarianna 1 day ago

No one is entitled to a GF. It's not a competition.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They're disappointed because those most of those things you listed revolve around consuming; rather than creating, learning or growing. Gaming and movies can be great if you're someone who likes analyzing storylines and art (bonus points if you make art yourself), but not everyone likes using their heads when they're doing those things.

by Linneadaugherty 1 day ago

Most video games require you to use your head. Other people may not like the hobby, and that's fine, but it's still a hobby.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You might want to consider getting a hobby

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Hey

by Anonymous 1 day ago

nice one

by Anonymous 1 day ago

There's not much that's interesting about gaming as a hobby, people like interesting humans, and unless you yourself are in to games, there's practically nothing interesting about them or to relate to or the need to learn about them.

by Rosaliaheathcot 1 day ago

The games I play are pretty cool though

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I love video games, but no video games are cool enough to justify that sentence.

by jakeprice 23 hours ago

Have you played the latest Doom game?

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Games are interesting to a lot of people. You don't have to like them, but OP liking them does not make him an uninteresting person.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Collecting funko pops isn't a hobby it's just buying stuff

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Collecting is a hobby

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Shopping on the internet and/or going to a store and spending money isnt a hobby. Thats just capitalism

by Jealous_Quantity_492 22 hours ago

No it takes time and planning to make sure I have a great collection so it's a hobby

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

What does that even mean?

by jakeprice 22 hours ago

It means it's a hobby so quit dissing

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

You just described the same actions that it takes to go grocery shopping. Is grocery shopping a hobby? No. Shopping is not a hobby, what you're describing is just glorified consumerism brain rot

by Jealous_Quantity_492 21 hours ago

Shopping can be a hobby too.

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

Sure if you're collecting bugs or stamps that require a little bit more effort than just adding something to your Amazon cart.

by Nils42 20 hours ago

I have to pick out the right ones and sometimes they're rare versions you can't just buy anywhere

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

Gr8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8

by Nils42 20 hours ago

Idk I feel like a hobby is something that you spend your time on. That's the purpose of asking someone's hobbies, it means "how do you spend your time". I also collect stuff but I wouldn't call it a hobby personally

by Putrid_Telephone_852 20 hours ago

I spend time browsing, selecting the right ones, tracking shipping, and organizing them in my room

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

If it's a primary display where you live, it's not going to impress anybody. When somebody hears that you collect those, they're imagining stacks of them along all available wall space.

by jakeprice 19 hours ago

Exactly

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

Hey that wasn't very nice, I'm glad you wasted 5 minutes now

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

It is a shame that your response is "that wasn't very nice", as it is advice that can,by itself, solve what is seemingly your biggest problem with dating. Hopefully one day you will be mature enough to say "hey, that random guy on the Internet was right!"

by madelynnwuckert 19 hours ago

I agree that the OP is not entitled to have someone be impressed with his hobby, but video games are not necessarily easy. Most of them require a good amount of effort to complete.

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

Anything you choose to spend your time and energy on is a hobby.

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

A hobby is considered to be a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. Hobbies include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements or avocations.

by Anonymous 18 hours ago

Exactly so why they say mine are no good?

by Anonymous 18 hours ago

They're idiots

by Anonymous 18 hours ago

I agree with you. And overpriced plastic is also something I engage in. But can you not collect something actually good looking? I bet you leave them in flimsy boxes aswell. Please just buy good figures not funkopops.

by Genemacejkovic 17 hours ago

Absolutely I leave them in the box

by Anonymous 17 hours ago

Hideous. Please for the love of God consider collecting something else. Even just rocks look better, not gems, rocks. (I am just taking the piss, you can collect whatever you want i don't have to agree with it lol. And depending on the size of the collection it CAN be impressive. Still hideous tho)

by Genemacejkovic 17 hours ago

Bro just start weightlifting 3 or 4 times a week then lead with that every time you get interrogated about hobbies. You dont have to have any sports skill just picking heavy things up and putting them back down for an hour 3 or 4 times a week. Good for health, physique, conversation, and you dont have to be able to catch a ball

by Ok_Painter_8700 17 hours ago

Go outside man

by Anonymous 16 hours ago

Do you know how hot it is in the south right now?

by Anonymous 16 hours ago

This argument only works if you do go outside in the winter.

by jakeprice 15 hours ago

Hobbies don't have to productive, they should be fun. like eating?

by Prestigious_Ebb 15 hours ago

Eating is a good one

by Anonymous 15 hours ago

True. Gaming is absolutely a hobby, just not a very impressive or interesting one.

by Miserable-Car-9994 15 hours ago

I'm not sure how, but you made me want to defend collecting funky pops.

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

Collecting anything in general is considered a hobby

by Brandy92 14 hours ago

A hobby, by definition, is an activity a person does in their leisure time for pleasure. I would argue that the actual most boring people alive are the people that are like "my hobby is going to the gym" bc like that's not a hobby that's a thing you do for self improvement a hobby is something you do purely for the love of it in your spare time.

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

A hobby, by definition, is an activity a person does in their leisure time for pleasure. this definition is too broad, you seriously mean that? I would argue that the actual most boring people alive are the people that are like "my hobby is going to the gym" bc like that's not a hobby that's a thing you do for self improvement you're being biased, and by a lot

by Prestigious_Ebb 13 hours ago

What do you mean it's too broad? That's the point. This idea that you have to be productive with your hobbies is the silliest take I've heard this week.

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

Oxford Dictionary: Hobby noun 1.an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure. "her hobbies are reading and gardening"

by cartwrightbraxt 13 hours ago

Why in the world do you think hobbies have to be productive? I'm productive at work. I'm productive at home when I'm cleaning / doing other things to maintain my household. Hobbies should be fun.

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

Hobbies don't need to be productive

by Anonymous 12 hours ago
