+52 Everyone should have to work weekends once in a while. amirite?

by Possible-Student 5 days ago

I work in a hospital so we never close. We have a rotating weekend schedule, so everyone ends up working the weekend at least once a month. It can be tough when there is a holiday and everyone wants the weekend off but for the most part it works.

This is exactly how it should be!!

Know what sucks about getting weekends off? Burning sick time and vacation days because dentists and the like aren't open.

by Plastic-Toe 5 days ago

Imagine actually having to use your sick days for health reasons

It's hard to do when your employer makes you plan getting cancer 3 months in advance. Gotta love american work culture. Suppose I shouldn't complain too much simply earning time off is not a given in many jobs.

by Plastic-Toe 5 days ago

Routine dentist visits and cancer treatments are wildly different examples. You led with the former.

You could also try getting a different job

by BubblyRoutine7692 5 days ago

My job is just fine. My opinion still stands regardless. Also there are very very few workplaces that would even have space for a no weekends schedule. It would not hurt people to work one weekend a month.

by Possible-Student 5 days ago

I think you'll find that a majority of jobs either have no weekend schedule or hire specifically for weekend shifts.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Most workplaces have weekends off, that is the standard . You just need a better job

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Again… my job is just fine. I am not talking about workplaces that are closed on weekends. These are not the same thing.

by Possible-Student 5 days ago

Most workplaces? Take a step back and think about how many places you can go to on the weekends.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

exactly

When I worked my last job I was in charge of doing rotas and found that in order to appear more fair I worked the majority of weekends. Having moved on to a better job with weekends off I am still of the opinion that if you can avoid working weekends then keep it that way, don't give them up to please others.

I work every weekend now stocking and cleaning park restrooms. I kinda miss having that day off but I also just wish I could sleep better.

by tierra52 5 days ago

Hopefully work gets better for you!!

by Possible-Student 5 days ago

I agree with you, but I think it will only be people who work every weekend that will feel this way, obviously.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

It's funny, cause that's the exact response of people I work with! "NO WAY. NOT ME."

by Anonymous 5 days ago

I'd rather not work weekends 😅

by Effective-Top6675 5 days ago

I'm pretty sure that's how most people would feel. Still, people are forced to anyway to avoid understaffing.

by Possible-Student 5 days ago

So you DONT want to work weekends? But you see other people not working them. So now you feel that we should FORCE people to work weekends sometimes. This is just jealousy. You're jealous of your coworkers who managed to get better hours than you, and rather than taking the steps necessary to get that for yourself, you want to make everyone else work them instead. Definition of jealousy.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Nobody forced you. You agreed to that when you got the job and signed your contract. I wouldn't even apply to a job that requires it.

by Alternative-Tie 5 days ago

Actually, "six people get every weekend off and every other employee has to fill that gap" was not in the contract.

by Possible-Student 5 days ago

Your contract says YOU have to work weekends. Their contract may say something different.

by Alternative-Tie 5 days ago

I'm reading "If I can't have it, no one can".

by Anonymous 5 days ago

No… It's "what makes people believe they deserve every weekend off more than everyone else?"

by Possible-Student 5 days ago

Same meaning, different words.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

It isn't, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

by Possible-Student 4 days ago

I've worked enough on weekends not to wish it for anyone.

by Emergency_Volume_523 4 days ago

What if there are people who can only work weekends, all of the sudden they're not getting paid one week because they can only work weekends, when I say this, think full time college students working a part time job

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I haven't worked weekends since 2004! LOL

by NeitherMorning 4 days ago

My company doesn't want to pay me weekend money. Lol

by Remarkable_Gur 4 days ago

I think a huge bonus to this would be that it would cause a lot less traffic and less crowds at stores and restaurants.

There are some people who for religious reasons, choose to attend church on Sunday (or Saturday). Short of that, I think they should have to share the load.
