+61 UK Winters are better than Summers, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

We live right up in the north of the uk and it never gets dark here over summer, we get dusk from about 11.30-1am then the bastard sun reappears. Op would hate it! There is no one around though so it would fix that issue. Also OP you don't need to win the lottery to move to the middle of nowhere. We moved from a tiny little flat in Nottingham to the Highlands, house prices/ rent aren't Grimsby cheap but they are a lot cheaper than you'd expect.

I sent my pal in Devon a picture at midnight on the longest day, she didn't believe me it was from then, looked mid afternoon

by UpstairsHead3359 1 day ago

I really like seeing the sun go up as the day starts and then see it go back down going home. (Or already have it dark). Really cool and surreal. Besides, I couldn't spend half of my lifespan being miserable about how long the sun is out

by That_Competition 1 day ago

Just take it day by day without writing off whole seasons. Stay positive by not creating self fulfilling prophecies otherwise you will just mope around for months of a year, needlessly.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Maybe negatively affects yours, not mine though. I feel worse in summer every year as I sleep badly and am uncomfortable all day.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This isn't an unpopular opinion.

by Idastroman 23 hours ago

It definately is. Or otherwise you'd be seeing more people going out and enjoying the fresh winter mud. Just the people who like summer usually are outside having fun rather than terminally online.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

It is. You just don't see the people letting you know they enjoy the heat because they're out there doing stuff in it.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Say it in 6 months

by Fun-Masterpiece 23 hours ago

I can say this again in 12 month?

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Totally agree. Mmm wow, I just love being sweaty and uncomfortable in my humid insulated house with no air conditioning, whilst the neighbour's kids scream and shout all day in their paddling pool. Pure bliss.

by Sudden_Concert8516 23 hours ago

This is the one - I can't take my flesh off guys!

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

Alright Victor Meldrew 🤣

by Visible_Youth_844 22 hours ago

I think you just need blinds and AC. Maybe some nets for your windows. Don't you have those over there?

by Distinct_One 22 hours ago

So all complaining and no action. Classic

by Distinct_One 21 hours ago

houses typically dont have ACs

by Former_Marketing 21 hours ago

I know, but those things can be installed. There are even portable, or window fixed ones.

by Distinct_One 21 hours ago

AC and some other stuff like that I get not having, but I remain baffled that #3 is an issue when windows screens are so cheap, effective and unobtrusive.

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

I have these installed! I hate giving the satisfaction knowing my neighbours can look at my house and see there own house back - selfish bastards

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

I don't agree with all your points but I agree with your view that winters are better. If I'm not on holiday by a pool with drinks whenever I need them then the hot weather can do one. The sun coming up at 4am and my kids thinking it's time to get up at 5am is unacceptable. I much prefer cold, dark nights and dark mornings.

by Comfortable-Cow-5164 20 hours ago

God no, winters are hell. Pure depression for 4 or 5 months.

by marvin29 19 hours ago

"Going dark at 4pm" why don't you like the day to just be the day?

by Prior_Radio 19 hours ago

I do like daylight just between the hours of 9am and at best 3pm - take it or leave it.

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

does the day end at 3pm or?

by Prior_Radio 19 hours ago

For me no thats when the fun starts - wondering around in the dark coolness its number one on my winter to do list - right behind seeing if snow is due

by Anonymous 18 hours ago

Agreed. Agreed. And agreed.

by Rueckerjevon 18 hours ago

I think this is the closest I've ever spoken to what could be a vampire? He's too positive

by Anonymous 18 hours ago

I prefer the lighting and colour of everything in summer. The sun looks awful in winter months

by That_Competition 18 hours ago

Apart from courteous Birthday sex - sex in summer is a no from me. I don't need the added lubricant to prolong the best 15 seconds my girlfriend will get. Drug taking age - any age after feeling loves first kiss - know what I mean?

by Anonymous 17 hours ago

100% same in the Netherlands.

by Anonymous 17 hours ago

No. Winters in the UK are the bane of my existance. The dark that means if you work 9-5 you basically never get to spend time outside not in the pitch black, the cold literally bites the inside of my lungs no matter how many layers I wear, the constant neverending mud, the rain, the constant grey skies. You can go weeks without seeing the sun due to the combination of grey skies and darkness. Literally. Winter in the UK is literally only enjoyable if you spend all your life indoors with heating on hiding from it. It affects peoples mental health and causes seasonal depression. I think the fact everyone around you chooses to be outside enjoying the weather in Summer but not winter does prove how unpopular your opinion is.

by Anonymous 17 hours ago

I think spring and autumn are the best seasons.

by Anonymous 16 hours ago

Nah, summer is blissful.

by Friendly-Trade 16 hours ago

nope i only constantly complain about summer

by Former_Marketing 15 hours ago

You just described British tradition. I'm assuming by "the rest of us" you mean non British people, because I'm pretty sure we all agreed that was our thing.

by Clean-Programmer 15 hours ago

It's actually a cheeky twofer - moaning AND talking about the weather. Do it in a queue as well… chef's kiss.

by Anonymous 15 hours ago

UK winters are garbage

by elvera52 15 hours ago

heavily agreed. i cant stand this summer, i cant deal with the heat + it worsens my mood. Any day in winter when my hands freeze i suddenly remember how torturous summer is and i become grateful that its not summer

by Former_Marketing 15 hours ago

You can always add more layers. There are only so many you can remove.

by Complete_Tomorrow928 14 hours ago

I love our endless daylight, beaches, lush greenery and wildflowers in summer. However, I do generally prefer cooler air as it's comfortable and feels cleaner.

I agree with U! I am on the stateside, lived in Florida 31 years and now absolutely hate Hate HATE the sun, humidity and the damn noise. Being disabled and sick does not help either. Turn on every fan U got, white noise machine, stream more white, green or brown noise U can. Only way to get thru it. I wish U could afford a Window AC unit! I got a window unit 3.5 yrs ago when I moved baxk up North East and even up there our summers SUCK. I am here with U in spirit!

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

Think a unit is on the cards for next year so says my girlfriend - our mutual hatred for heat is what keeps us on the long and narrow

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

I'm 100% with ya brother. Fear not! Winter is coming.

by Eusebioberge 13 hours ago

Thank you Jon

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

I think there's an in-between. also i think its fair to say This summer is hot for us a normal summer is really nice. this is a bit too hot but its not usually this hot. I have no central heating, so its freezing in the winter, also having sex in the winter is not fun as soon as when your done you reaching for a jumper, the highest tog duvet lol. what is drug taking age? because i see people smoking weed from all ages there's a neighbor of ours who smokes weed outside on his steps (he's not like your neighbor he's quiet and keeps himself to himself) who is probably in his mid 50s.

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

This isn't an unpopular opinion. I hate our summer and so do my colleagues. Have you tried investing in a portable AC? You can store it away easily and take it out when it's needed. I've had one since 2016, we purchased 2 more for the other rooms. It feels much better. I still hate the bugs.
