+63 I don't understand Radiohead, amirite?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I really like them. Especially in Rainbows and King of Limbs.

by kritchie 4 days ago

In rainbows is soooo good.

by Different_Bag_9016 4 days ago

When that came out. I went to their website to download it. It asked what I wanted to pay. I said zero (was a broke kid) it sent me the full HD download mp3.

Blasphemy ! Boo this man ! 😂… Also, I'm seeing this trend of younger 2000s babies saying XYZ artist from the 90s/00s actually sucked. So this is what my dad and grandpa dealt with when I was a kid huh ?

I think if you look at the arrangements of the songs, they get into some pretty complex chords, chord progressions, and rhythm. Their lyrics can be abstract and the themes aren't always basic (eg. Love). I usually don't like a Radiohead song on my first listen. Usually it takes a few. But once I get there, it's so much better.

by RockAdept 4 days ago

Ah yes, the old "too complicated for you" argument. Nah, man. Most of us just don't vibe with their musical style.

by Ok-Vehicle1074 4 days ago

I didn't call their music complex. We're saying the same thing.

by Repulsive-Driver-165 4 days ago

no need to get defensive when no one is attacking you friend

by Key_Perspective8666 4 days ago

Not liking radio head is a minority opinion though

by Anonymous 4 days ago

You think the majority of the human population is a Radiohead fan?

by MajorAd4717 4 days ago

Majority of people who like the broader rock genre and have heard of radiohead yes. Obviously a rap fanatic might be more apprehensive and someone in Vietnam with no access to western music might have different opinions

by Anonymous 4 days ago

If they are fans of good music, yes. 😆

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Nine Inch Nails gets plenty of rock radio play. The difference is their music actually rocks.

by National-Glove 4 days ago

I know I'm Depressed when Kid A hits some kind of resonance within my brain.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

The Bends was really good in an alternative rock way, and then they decided they didn't want certain kinds of people as fans.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

They've been fan-abusers from the start. Their song on The Bends "My Iron Lung" is literally about what it felt like to have everyone love "Creep" so much. Spoiler: they didn't like it. Now, I think they're amazing and I love basically everything they've ever done. But they're pretentious private school posers, that's all part of it.

by ConstructionOld 4 days ago

Nirvana did the same thing with In Bloom. Doesn't make them arrogant or pretentious - it's not an uncommon sentiment.

by Yborer 4 days ago

Iron lung is by far a superior song

by Prior-Benefit-6879 4 days ago

What did they do? Or say? I'm wondering now cus my bro is a fan

by No-Hippo-3359 4 days ago

As someone who only likes that album from them, what do you mean?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I've always liked Radiohead. From the first album to the last. I went with the flow of their growth as musicians.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

You need to start with their accesible stuff first, start with their 2nd album, The Bends. Its a straight forward rock record. Then go on to their later stuff. The first mistake first listeners do when trying to discover radiohead for the first time is listen to their later albums before The Bends. Another is that they listen to the singles only and not the full album. That said its all a matter of taste really. Their best albums (OK Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows) take a few listens to get but once it clicks, its amazing. Listening to music like that imo is rewarding and music like that ages really beautifully. Ok Computer still sounds so fresh to this day.

by princess26 4 days ago

I really gave OK Computer a try (like, a proper listen without any distractions) after someone else said "it brings a lot to the table to a listener of progressive rock" after I mentioned my favorite band is Rush. I didn't hate it, I just didn't find anything particularly amazing about it. The highest point for me was the polyrhythm in "Let Down" and some melodic interactions between bass and guitar arpeggios. The rest was just a mellow slog that made me feel nothing, no emotions, not even curiosity to where a particular song would go. It just ended without having any impact. Nit pick: Thom Yorke's diction is awful and couldn't understand anything without reading the lyrics. His vocal style really doesn't vibe with me.

Thom Yorke's diction is awful and couldn't understand anything without reading the lyrics. His vocal style really doesn't vibe with me. Thom sings like he's deaf.

by MajorAd4717 4 days ago

They're Coldplay for people who've never seen boobs in real life before.

by MajorAd4717 4 days ago

I got high and listened to future days for the first time recently. Still like Radiohead, but damn…

by Realistic-Damage 4 days ago

That's one of my favourites, and actually the record I think Radiohead mostly borrowed heavily from, mainly Bel Air. There was a long stretch in my teens where it was just getting high and listening to Krautrock. Good times.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I feel the same way except it was Pablo Honey hitting at the exact time my angsty teenage self needed it

by pagacevangeline 4 days ago

Nobody could have put it better. 🏆

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I'm with you OP. I do like quite a few of their songs. But there's a lot of their fans who think they're the greatest band of all time and I respectfully disagree.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Thank you they suck the whole dick though not just the balls.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Bingo

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Ok Computer and The Bends are really interesting albums. They're a competent band. Nothing to write home about.

by Ok-Banana-1977 4 days ago

Kid A is the seminal album of the 90's.

by Negative_Coconut 4 days ago

To bad it came out in 2000

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Quite the feat as it came out in 2000.

by Fast_Check 4 days ago

Yep. If I have to hear "creep" on the radio again one more time imma lose it. Just such a droning song. The only song I like is "I might be wrong." But that's it.

by DonutOk223 4 days ago

Creep the only song I like lol

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Back when I was into Porcupine Tree—they've since worn me out, though I adore Steven Wilson's solo work—I heard so many comparisons made to Radio Head that I kept checking them out, only to come away disappointed. Rinse and repeat. I don't think they're terrible, just not for me.

by kaya20 4 days ago

How dare you not like them??? You're legally obligated to love everything that everyone else loves!!! Change this stupid dislike of yours immediately!!! Let down is one of the best songs! (How is this even an unpopular opinion? You have your own taste?! That's crazy!)

by Anonymous 4 days ago

So? I like radiohead for the most part, but it would suck if everyone liked the same music. Variety is key. I cannot stand u2 I despise every single song of theirs with a passion. My buddy is a huge fan of u2, I don't understand it, but hey if he likes it good for him. I'm glad he gets enjoyment. People like different things it isn't strange.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Hell yes U2 succcckkksss

by Anonymous 4 days ago

They're definitely an "album band" if that makes sense. I love them, especially The Bends and OK Computer. I really have to be in the mood for their later stuff.

by wuckerttomas 4 days ago

I hate Radiohead.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

In Rainbows is the best album of this century

by fadelstan 4 days ago

What else do you like and dislike from that era?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

My friend would crash out if he read this 😂 I agree op

by rennermaynard 4 days ago

Right there with ya.

by No-Performance6440 4 days ago

It was great when I was so moody and in high school really captured that moment for me

by No_Office 4 days ago

Keep listening. The irony is that Radiohead might be the most original paradigm shifting brilliant musical thing that came out of the 90's scene. Ok Computer is a timeless masterpiece, start there, and really listen.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Nah.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

That's a pretty popular opinion. Luckily their peak was probably the mid aughts so they shouldn't darken your doorstep much these days

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Listen to The Bends.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I don't mind them but their fans are so obnoxious. They act like their taste in music is so avant garde for liking In Rainbows.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

House of cards and knives out are my two favorites by them

by LiveRespond5390 4 days ago

Literally the greatest band of the 20th century lmaoooooooo

by Prior-Benefit-6879 4 days ago

A lot of music listening comes down to putting yourself in the time of the music. The greats transcend time and while I would personally consider radiohead to be great, I also belive they don't transcend time

by Responsible-Pop-2133 4 days ago

They only have like a few good songs tbh
